While you may consider it to be less than perfect, I found it a refreshing and relaxed video after enjoying a great trip. I just got back from Europe (Spain). believe me, I could not have filmed a video because I get so jet lagged/tired. I wish I would have taken my trench. Your monoprix dress is adorable. I took 2 pants, few tops and LEFT a few things there to prevent my having to carry them home. #lazy. My next trip I am very tempted to wear and outfit, bring one pair pants, pjs and buy the rest there. I seem to like to get things when I am there. As much as I stress over what to bring, I seem to reconsider the correct things once I am there (Europe) I bought a cute basic Zara jacket. thanks for sharing the after video, it is refreshing.
We did that exact trip last June in stifling heat. It still was fab and so are you. Because of our age, we always choose Viking. They pamper us, handle our luggage and are so accommodating. Is everything perfect? No. It’s travel and you have to expect glitches sometimes. It seems Viking is one of the best dealing with occasional glitches including picking people up along the river who had the misfortune of missing the boat. Loved the video and you, Jen! ❤

I really like your video! Went on a Viking river cruise in Spring last year on the Rhine and brought a trench coat, a packable light down jacket but also a leather jacket. I brought a little black swing dress which was perfect for the dinners , wore Tory Burch flats to dress things up, otherwise, the white sneakers were perfect. I have watched lots of packing videos and this one is so relatable. I used a carry on and a Tumi backpack. Used a Longchamp backpack for tours with a small crossbody bag. Just subscribed! Next year, the Danube in Fall.
We just returned from a 21 day Viking Grand European Cruise (15 days + 2 extensions on either end). You are correct in your assessment about the weather. I too brought a trench as well as a long waterproof raincoat which I wore a lot. The raincoat helped to protect against the wind that often came with the rain. I wore a visor when it rained and put the hood up to keep water off my glasses. I wore the trench to the airport, but took it off and put it in a large packing cube once I got there. Perhaps that should be done once on the plane because the gate checker told me to put my small crossbody in my carryon. She didn’t like that I had already put my coat in that packing cube. I read that they are getting stricter and are even asking you to put your neck pillow into your personal item. Looking forward to your review of the trip as that is the next one we want to take.
Great video. Husband and I went on a Rhine river cruise yes you are right river cruise are different then the Ocean cruise. We had a great time. I still can’t seem to travel with carry on only (truth is I need to bring some extra old lady things pad). Thanks for taking the time to do your videos I enjoy watching them.

Loved your unpacking video! I got a lot of great tips and will use them for our river cruise next year! One tip for you - never unpack on your bed. In the event that you picked up a bed bug or a bed bug egg on your bag, you should unpack on a hard surface in bright light. Also, wash everything that you have travelled with and vacuum and wash/wipe your suitcase well after every trip. I learned this the hard way after staying at a 5 star hotel. It seems bed bugs like staying at fancy places too! 😞
Great tip but I'm actually NOT unpacking on the bed. My suitcase is on a table at the end of the bed. Also why I prefer hard luggage to soft luggage - easy to disinfect the hard plastic before unpacking and I ALWAYS thoroughly disinfect my luggage before unpacking.
Yay, I’m a 6hr sleeper on the Paris flight too. I eat at the airport, get on the plane, and I’m asleep as soon as we lift off. It saves me that horrible jet lag! Awesome packer! Can’t wait to watch another one 💕
Awe!! That's the cruise my in-laws were on - and then off of - when they ended up with Covid and had to stay in a Paris hotel for two weeks, recovering. They got as far as the first town stop out of Paris and were sent away. Viking took good care of them, and! Gave them credit for a future cruise that they are doing this summer (an ocean cruise from Bergen to London). They've done two other Viking cruises and loved them. I booked them many times for other people. I hope to go, someday. I think your outfit choices were smart and the dress you bought is A-DOR-A-BLE!!!!! ❤ I'm long overdue for a return to France - can't wait to see those videos!!!

Loved the video. We are fond of Rick Steves tours while in Europe as we lives his philosophy of travel. We are embarking on our first River cruise aboard the AmaSeina for Christmas markets this December. We have traveled voa land to the markets before and look forward to the river cruise aspect. Perfect advise regarding Merino wool. I've built quite the Wool& wardrobe of mainly dresses that I know will pack and wear well with layering. I look forward to more of your videos!
We do Uniworld River Cruises and find that they do dress smart casual in the evenings and dressier for the Captains dinner and Welcome dinner. Check with your cruise line for any theme nights also. Coming from Australia to Europe for 6 weeks away, can't manage carryon for all the weather changes unfortunately. Loved this video.😊

And I love seeing the red Viking luggage tag on your suitcase, too; I’ve done 4 Ocean & 1 River cruise with them & getting ready for the Adriatic as I type. All about real here and that's what I love about you and your channel Jen. And I fully agree that comfort is key for any trip. It doesn't matter if I'm visiting my daughter in NYC or going to a ranch in Colorado. It needs to look good but it MUST feel good too. I always enjoy your videos!

A real video. Heading to France at month end. You helped tremendously. I kept the Viking shot glasses as well from last trip. Gathering dust! My headphones were stolen out of hotel years ago-need to invest again. AirPods are ok but don’t last on a pond flight.

Oh, I also wear it in 40° temps. I took it to England for a cruise where we had wind and rain. It kept me dry and warm. You should check it out. It also comes in a longer length. I'm 5' 4", and it hits at my mid knees. I purchased the jacket first. I believe it's called The Packaway Jacket.
About lack of food, another trick take a couple of small zip lock bags. My husband was a bedtime snack guy. We would take an extra bun or croissant, cheese, sliced meat and they have cute condiment containers all available at breakfast you have a fridge so kept well. Sometime I'd fill a baggie with nuts, granola or orange etc for afternoon trip snack. You can also ask for an open soft drink for fridge. We bought snacks too. Name brands seem to be available world wide.

I really like this video and found it helpful as I will be going on a similar itinerary cruise, but with a different cruise line. I would ask though that you please be mindful of saying something like "if you didn't pack it, you can buy it". While that's true of if someone loses or runs out of hand lotion, it isn't true of clothes for every size body. Plus size clothing is difficult enough to find in stores here in the US as most are starting to even remove it from their stores and put it online only as they don't want to dedicate floorspace to it any longer. I can't even imagine how difficult it would be for someone of size to try shopping for something in another country. Taking larger size clothes also takes considerably more space in luggage as the amount of fabric is bulkier, packing in a carry on only is often impossible for that reason.
Jen! I love your channel and I love your personality and calm demeanor!! I am traveling to st Lucia in nov. I am bringing shorts and sundresses. A pr Of linen wide leg pants. Bathing suits etc. would you recommend any sweaters ! I have a travel wrap that I thought might work. Thank you for all your hard work. Watching this as I’m packing for a trip and I’m so stressed and full of packing/travel anxiety! I live in the Uk and we usually have holidays round the uk , mainly Devon or Cornwall, or short 3/4 days to Europe or a 14 day trip to WDW Florida. I find those easier to pack for, especially Florida as I know it’s going to be hot , I just need couple good pairswalking trainers for the parks, crocs for the pool , swimming costume, shorts and cool tops. We stay in an apartment with washer & dryer so can take stuff for a week and wash it all. BUT we are going on a 10 day trip to turkey , totally new county to us, and I know I’ve totally overpacked, as in case it’s cool in evenings as the weather looks varied at the moment, need different outfits for the evening etc…. I’ve tried everything on a couple of times and packed twice so far!! Watched many of your packing videos too! 🤷♀️🤷♀️

Some airlines are counting every single item as a carry on so even a neck pillow if it doesn’t fit in your backpack or tote may be considered a carry on item. Varies with airlines and agents.

First of all, your hair looks great! Question, don't you wear compression socks on a long plane ride? Always love your videos. I have the same Longchamps bag and love it.
Packing Mix and Match is essential for NOT taking the largest suitcase made on your trip. Your helpful "real" tips are wonderful and just the thing. I don't know how many times I've seen someone struggling with the largest suitcase made, plus a large carryon and a large purse. When I ask them how long their trip is they say a week, or 10 days. ?? And their husband carries just as much. My husband and I share a small to medium expandable. (Expandable to accommodate any purchases) and a backpack. No matter how long the trip. We even use same colors so gender neutral clothes can be used by either of us. After 40 years of marriage I think we can share a shirt or two.

Great timing as I'm going on my 1st river cruise in France next month. 8 days plus 3 days in Paris and 3 days in Nice. I've been planning my wardrobe for months in my head lol as I'm an over packer! I also love to dress up on vacation. But this was good info for the river cruise part. Paris and Nice/Monaco will be a different ballgame for me anyway. Will check weather as it gets closer before I officially pack. I'm definitely bringing a checked bag though 😂

Hi Jen - I think you are too tough on yourself! This was a great video - plenty of information about what you took, why you took it and how it all worked together. I am an “ over packer” and have found your videos really useful. However in Australia our carry on luggage weight is restricted to around 7 kg for most domestic and international flights - so I may never be a carry on only traveller but I can dream! 😂 Thanks so much! I wash it by hand (using a liquid soap meant for cashmere from The Laundress) and then lay it flat to dry. You can also have it dry cleaned but I think hand washing is better.

Definitely I think just because of the nature of the trip? You’re spending all day touring chateaus and museums so there’s not a long of time or energy left for dressing for dinner.😂
advice for Versailles - while you may be able to get yourself there on the train, you also need to find a bus to the palace or be up for quite a long walk. Also be prepared to stand in line for hours to actually get in. Groups are the way to go 👍

Thanks for sharing your “what I packed” for this particular cruise since I’ll be taking it this coming October, so the weather will be similar. And I love seeing the red Viking luggage tag on your suitcase, too; I’ve done 4 Ocean & 1 River cruise with them & getting ready for the Adriatic as I type. LOVE Viking (but no jeans in the Ocean main restaurant 😉)!

A real video. Heading to France at month end. You helped tremendously. I kept the Viking shot glasses as well from last trip. Gathering dust! My headphones were stolen out of hotel years ago-need to invest again. AirPods are ok but don’t last on a pond flight.

Seriously I have a non packable one but this one is so warm, I may make that my primary winter coat here! (although we don't get THAT cold to be fair)
Oh, I also wear it in 40° temps. I took it to England for a cruise where we had wind and rain. It kept me dry and warm. You should check it out. It also comes in a longer length. I'm 5' 4", and it hits at my mid knees. I purchased the jacket first. I believe it's called The Packaway Jacket.

About lack of food, another trick take a couple of small zip lock bags. My husband was a bedtime snack guy. We would take an extra bun or croissant, cheese, sliced meat and they have cute condiment containers all available at breakfast you have a fridge so kept well. Sometime I'd fill a baggie with nuts, granola or orange etc for afternoon trip snack. You can also ask for an open soft drink for fridge. We bought snacks too. Name brands seem to be available world wide.
We did this same cruise on Viking last November and it was a trip of a lifetime!

OMG I'M JEALOUS. I was just wishing I had a Japan trip planned this morning.
I really like this video and found it helpful as I will be going on a similar itinerary cruise, but with a different cruise line. I would ask though that you please be mindful of saying something like "if you didn't pack it, you can buy it". While that's true of if someone loses or runs out of hand lotion, it isn't true of clothes for every size body. Plus size clothing is difficult enough to find in stores here in the US as most are starting to even remove it from their stores and put it online only as they don't want to dedicate floorspace to it any longer. I can't even imagine how difficult it would be for someone of size to try shopping for something in another country. Taking larger size clothes also takes considerably more space in luggage as the amount of fabric is bulkier, packing in a carry on only is often impossible for that reason.

Yes I always recommend a light layer even at resort destinations. Air conditioning can be brutal!
Watching this as I’m packing for a trip and I’m so stressed and full of packing/travel anxiety!
I live in the Uk and we usually have holidays round the uk , mainly Devon or Cornwall, or short 3/4 days to Europe or a 14 day trip to WDW Florida. I find those easier to pack for, especially Florida as I know it’s going to be hot , I just need couple good pairswalking trainers for the parks, crocs for the pool , swimming costume, shorts and cool tops. We stay in an apartment with washer & dryer so can take stuff for a week and wash it all. BUT we are going on a 10 day trip to turkey , totally new county to us, and I know I’ve totally overpacked, as in case it’s cool in evenings as the weather looks varied at the moment, need different outfits for the evening etc…. I’ve tried everything on a couple of times and packed twice so far!! Watched many of your packing videos too! 🤷♀️🤷♀️

Some airlines are counting every single item as a carry on so even a neck pillow if it doesn’t fit in your backpack or tote may be considered a carry on item. Varies with airlines and agents.

Thank you for this great video. I am getting fully prepared for our Norway ocean trip next year! One question: what is the max size of the suitcase? Domestic flights are 22" and international flights are 21.6". Did your Away suitcase fit their 'sizer'?

Packing Mix and Match is essential for NOT taking the largest suitcase made on your trip. Your helpful "real" tips are wonderful and just the thing. I don't know how many times I've seen someone struggling with the largest suitcase made, plus a large carryon and a large purse. When I ask them how long their trip is they say a week, or 10 days. ?? And their husband carries just as much. My husband and I share a small to medium expandable. (Expandable to accommodate any purchases) and a backpack. No matter how long the trip. We even use same colors so gender neutral clothes can be used by either of us. After 40 years of marriage I think we can share a shirt or two.
I so wish Scott and I could share! He's 6'4" and I'm 5'6" though so might not work LOL

Great timing as I'm going on my 1st river cruise in France next month. 8 days plus 3 days in Paris and 3 days in Nice. I've been planning my wardrobe for months in my head lol as I'm an over packer! I also love to dress up on vacation. But this was good info for the river cruise part. Paris and Nice/Monaco will be a different ballgame for me anyway. Will check weather as it gets closer before I officially pack. I'm definitely bringing a checked bag though 😂

I am an “ over packer” and have found your videos really useful. However in Australia our carry on luggage weight is restricted to around 7 kg for most domestic and international flights - so I may never be a carry on only traveller but I can dream! 😂 Thanks so much! How do you wash your cashmere?
I wash it by hand (using a liquid soap meant for cashmere from The Laundress) and then lay it flat to dry. You can also have it dry cleaned but I think hand washing is better.

Definitely I think just because of the nature of the trip? You’re spending all day touring chateaus and museums so there’s not a long of time or energy left for dressing for dinner.😂
advice for Versailles - while you may be able to get yourself there on the train, you also need to find a bus to the palace or be up for quite a long walk. Also be prepared to stand in line for hours to actually get in. Groups are the way to go 👍
