If I had lots of money I would have one for it’s looks. But I don’t so I’m gonna stick with my two Rolands.

This sounds so much fuller and richer than the Roland, is it internally different? Great sounds, is this out of the box factory settings?

They definitely have their own circuit, but the sounds are basically midi files, which can also be used on the Rolands. These sounds are all factory setting though!

It is the same Roland 8x although some features of the Roland were not included sadly on the EVO. The difference in sound is what speaker or recording system you use. The internal speakers on both are minimal...for best sound you need to play with full range external speaker system. Other than that the sounds are exactly the same....just up to the owner to tweak and play with them. I have a 8x Dalape and have played the EVO. I actually prefer the Roland because of the aftertouch which the piano version has. There are a few other items left off the Evo because Roland paid to license those features and evidently EVO elected to not do so. The two big hits for me on the EVO is the keyboard key top over hand....some have had a problem with finger "trap" when playing it. I didn't but my friend did and he found it a major con. The access to the battery is easy on the Roland 8x to change it out on a long gig. You have to pull the pins on the EVO which is dumb. I like the cases of the EVOs a lot and of course the keys are nice although the 8x is very fast. I may have gotten the EVO as another accordion but I was dissapointed that it wasn't a LOT lighter as it initially was advertised. Both are comfortable to play seated (which I always do). The EVO is a bit easier with weight distribution when standing. I would worry about where the EVO goes for a future direction. They seem to be locked into the 8x so don't know what happens if a new Roland comes out....will they continue to sell the electronics to the EVO.?

One more comment on the sound. The Evo is a wood box, the Roland is plastic. Because of this, from what I've heard, the Evo sounds warner (better?).. I have had an Evo for 2 years and love it. The battery access is a low point, but you don't need you access it very often (rechargable batteries typically last 5 years). You do need to be careful with the wood box, it's more easily damaged than the plastic. My strap buckles did some minor damage on mine before I got covers for them (and now more careful when packing it in the case)

@@DS-tu4qg Roland and Evo same...it is just speakers not acoustic instruments so how you adjust tones makes the difference. I play both and when set up correctly they are the same. In my case...I play both through external speakers for far better sound than the internal speakers. The deal breaker for me is the battery as I need to be able to quickly change batteries if they get low on power. The Roland has aluminum case not all plastic. Both are great instruments though.
