Because of you I got both Personal and Business Amex Platinum within 2 weeks period. I kid you guys not. I couldn't ask for more. Thank you so much Mark!
The ladder thing is so true. I was unexpectedly approved for the Delta gold, green and gold simultaneously because I thought the gold was a longshot. Now I regret not just applying for the gold because I won’t spend enough to satisfy all three welcome offers.
My 18 year old prequalified for American Express Platinum with 125,000 reward points. He declined and preferred BCE. His Experian score was 767. His income is 30k. I'm sure they'll approve anyone if they are willing to pay the $695 annual fee. I had this card for a minute. It's fun to carry, but I really don't travel that much. If you're not a frequent traveler, the Green card is a better deal I think. It's really geared towards frequent travelers where as the Black Card is geared more toward big spenders.
yea i just got approved and then from watching alot of videos about the card i decided to cancel it BUT they ended up telling me about the gold card and so i went with that card ..platinum card came today and now the gold card is on the way ...credit score was 685 with 20 hard inquiries plus my score just dropped 8 points back to 677 ....so i guess it is pretty easy to get this card
I have the green card already. Great card, i just got approved for the Platinum card yesterday. Green for broader travel and dining, Platinum for lounge access, airline credit. I’ll keep the plat for a year and reaccess if I want to downgrade to Gold. Got a SUB for 125,000 for 6k spend in 6 months for the Plat. Easy enough
I think the business Platinum is better, it offers credits that are useful for the business plus all the travel perks. Annual fee is high but as a business can write that off.
Hey Mark, from my experience Amex cards are the easiest to get. I got the gold card at 19 with an income of around 18,000 and they keep on advertising an upgrade offer to the platinum all the time and I don’t even spend that much on the card. I also have the BCP and BBP as well. So I don’t think there is an income requirement or really any requirement at all except for not a bad credit history or relationship.
Amex offers general pre qualification, check there before. Also, Platinum offers a lot of benefits, but they come at an anual fee, so keep that in mind. Maybe is Gold, Green or Preferred. I think Amex advertises very well by showing a certain lifestyle to each card, make sure your lifestyle matches to the card you need. If the card has heavy groceries benefits but you don’t grocery shop a lot, then go for another card and maybe another vendor.
If you have a good record with Amex, the platinum is the easiest card to get even with good credit and low income. I got the platinum with $35K a year student income and a 750 FICO score. I have been rejected by cap1 and other cards in comparison because I’ve been using Amex (the blue cash) for 2 years now
MY MOTHER GOT APPROVED WITH THE AMERICAN EXPRESS PLATINUM AT 16 K INCOME THE BENEFIT OF USING THE LOUNGES AT CEBU MACTAN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WAS ONE OF OUR UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE OF HAVING THE CARD
26 y/o. Have the Apple Card, Capital One Venture One, another Capital One (don’t even think it has a name), Guitar Center store card, BCE since 2016, and Chase Sapphire Preferred a month or so ago. Got a pre-approval letter for Amex Platinum (surprising bc my credit took a dip to 722 after getting the CSP) but I figured I might as well since I’m tryna do some more traveling soon 🤷🏻♂️
@@talismanjr I’m not sure. Maybe because I’ve been with Amex for 6 years and have had $0 balance at end of month for like 20 months so they figured I’d be a good risk with a charge card 🤷🏻♂️
Another thing I found out is for income you can use projected income or household income all money available to you could mean a wide variety of things so even someone making 30k per year can probably find out a way how to make an extra 10 to 20 thousand doing gig work or if they get a lot of gifts that also counts as income
Was just approved for this card today with an elevated/targeted 150K sign up bonus after spending 6K in 6 months. My FICO 8 score is currently 716. I was a bit surprised to get the offer. I used to have the business platinum and personal gold cards but sadly they were both closed because I wasn’t smart with my finances as a young freelance photographer, 15+ years ago and ruined my credit. Thankfully, spent the past few years, rebuilding it, and now have multiple cards, including the Sapphire Preferred and the Venture X, and have rebuilt my credit, but still, I’m happy that AMEX actually approved me for another card.
Green in 95, Gold in 06, Plat March of this year. I've been taking advantage of Plat offers and love it. I literally made a simple Excel spreadsheet & I'm on the positive end by $995😎. It’s the best card for Travelers, but that’s really what it’s geared towards. I have it because I’m on a plane for work about 2-3 times a year plus a personal vacation, so it makes a lot of sense for me. Otherwise, it would be a pass for sure. Not really a fan of the flashy metal either :/
Another good vid. I personally believe the Platinum card is still the best on the market in its category and maybe a few others. I use mine as a lifestyle/luxury for big ticket purchases and for some Business expenses. I like how it has become a hybrid card and while it is still a charge card with no preset limit you still can spend up to your pay over time limit and pay like a credit card. I like that British accent better than I do the credit shifu’s accent of course he’s no longer British since he crossed the Atlantic and now lives in a basement somewhere with master yoda
I finally stepped up to the Platinum as I was salty when AMEX announced taking away the Airline credits from the Gold. I added my wife as an additional Platinum card user. Her offers are slightly different than mine in her account login. Yet, as Mark stated most overlap. Some of the overlaps are great i.e. the Amazon +5 MR points up to 1,500. After I exhausted my Amazon offer, I'd have my wife order stuff for me on her Plat to maximize both our offers😎
I own a small business and a full-time job as my main source of income. Is it good to apply for AMEX Business Gold for my business and pair it with my current Amex Cobalt? I only travel 1-2 a year so I don’t think applying for Amex Platinum is practical.
Are you looking to get the Business Gold Card solely for the welcome offer, or do the reward categories also match where you spend? To clarify, you're talking about the Canadian version of the Business Gold Card, correct?
@@MarkReese i’m looking into business gold card just for my business in general not mainly for the offers. It would just be good to have it so all business expenses are record on one card and yes the Canadian Amex Business Gold Card
@@EPICWILDETAILING - I'd say it's based on how much you spend & how much you value the interest-free period of 55 days for cash flow purposes. On the whole, I'd say earning 1X points for a $199 annual fee makes the Business Gold Rewards Card difficult to justify. Have you considered the Business Edge Card instead? The lower $99 annual fee + 3X earn categories look much more compelling (provided you spend in them). Regardless, even if you don't & would still only earn 1X, then the $99 annual fee is still more favorable.
I felt itched to get platinum card just only for your drop test. But sounds cheap, I got Apple Card instead. It gets the job done without hefty annual fee, lol. I would say Amex blue cash preferred might be tougher one to get (credit card) compared with Platinum one.
@@chloejohnson3559 You are right, it’s totally different tier. But I just found out that my cousin has Amex platinum so I just joined his account as his additional authorized user and paid him $175 for annual fee so I can enjoy lounge benefits also.
Does credit utilization to qualify for this card depend ? I make $40+ a year and have a credit score of 740 and my utilization is 30%-35% because I put all my spendings on here but I pay it off completely in full at the end of the month !
Hi Karla - there isn't a way for me to say with certainty what Amex's looks at. That said, utilization can very often be a big factor banks use in general. If you'd like to potentially put yourself in an even better position, consider making an early payment on your credit card several days _before_ the billing cycle ends to bring the utilization down to under 10%. Then that smaller balance will get reported. Once it does and your credit report reflects it, you can then apply 💯
Hello Mark Reese! I commented on a video you made last year regarding chase and travel cards so hello again! Ive rocked w chase for a while now but something about this card grabs my attention (being all top tier lol), but do have some questions. I’ve never banked with American Express and pretty much know nothing about them except the famous AMEX Platinum card. What would be the chances of me getting approved with no AMEX history? Two months ago I was denied from getting the Amex Blue Business cash card because I have debt but it is in Good standings. Do you think I will be approved if I apply for the Platinum?
There isn't a way for me to guarantee an outcome. However, the Platinum will likely have easier approval standards. That said, I'd personally take care of the debt situation first 👍
How important does History play when applying for it even though you have lets say a 750 FICO score with 6 months of history. I want this to be my first AMEX card but have 6 months.
Great score, Herbert 👍 Amex seems to be more lenient with history than the other big issuers, but I can't say for certain if 6 months will be sufficient.
Amex seems to favor Experian, but it may vary based on location. Also, once you have a card relationship with Amex, future applications are often soft pulls (not guaranteed though).

@@MarkReese Not sure if you have any info on the wheels up program by Amex And Black and Platinum card members but you should do a vid on it. A few people touch on it but never get in to it enough!
@@byronjeffery2576 - Good suggestion!
So how does the no preset limit work exactly? And what do you mean by you can still spend up to your pay over time limit? Could you give an example?
Amex likes spenders and the Platinum card is for people who frequently fly.
Totally agree. Also with lounge access in the home or frequented airport. Centurion lounge, Delta lounge or Priority pass. At least one.
@@DerikAasansLevelUpTravel yes lounge is a good perk. I mostly use Dulles and fly United. I do use airline credits from Amex to buy United lounge. Since the beer bug all the lounges have been sub par.
Yep, Amex definitely favors those who put a lot of spend on their cards 😁👍
Great content as always!
Thank you!
I have that card it is amazing and keeps you in check and does not allow me to get in debt
Awesome Lia! Great to hear you're using it responsibly 😃💯
How is it amazing?
Excellent content and delivery! New subscriber.
Thanks so much, Paula! 😃
@@MarkReese You're soooo welcome
Not a card of luxury anymore. That is for sure. It is now Amex cash cow revenue.
Amex loves that fee revenue 😁💵
I have every AmEx card, personal and business. My first card was for $40,000 blue!
LEGIT! You're the Amex Champ!🏆💳
Hiii just got approved for platinum American Express card welcome bonus with 100,000 points in my credit score at 767 😎😎😎 Gucci 😀
Congrats on the approval, Maicon!
I have a 679 and make 42k and got approved for platinum!
Congrats Kymea! 😃💯 Enjoy the new card!
I just got a pre-approved offer in the mail yesterday. I won't get it though because of the AF.
Fun to get those offers 😁 If the fee doesn't make sense for you, you're smart to avoid it 👍
Great video Mark!
Thanks Gabriel!
don't rlly know anything about cards, researched for 20min and got approved for platinum
Congrats on the approval, Alec! 💥 Plenty of other videos throughout the channel to help you learn the ins & out of the credit card world 😃🎬 Enjoy!
My first AMEX card was the Gold Card
Nice choice! 💯
@@MarkReese thanks 😊
15 years ago I was a Amex owner then divorce and bankruptcy came. How long before I can get approved for another Amex card?
Hey Roy - I'm not sure what Amex's timeframe would be. If the bankruptcy is no longer on your credit report, then it shouldn't be an issue.
@@MarkReese I heard Amex keeps a list. My report is clean. Every card I apply for I get but Amex gives me a automatic denial. No credit inquiry.
@@royzeus9969 - Bummer, unfortunately I don't have an answer for this 🤙 Consider opening a banking account with them and/or getting added as an authorized user to another Amex account. Potentially the prepaid debit card called 'Serve from American Express'' could be another tactic. Get creative with ways back in.
@@MarkReese Great advice. I’ll try the prepaid and see what happens. Thank you for the attention 👍🏾
I like that British accent better than I do the credit shifu’s accent of course he’s no longer British since he crossed the Atlantic and now lives in a basement somewhere with master yoda
I've always enjoyed the British accent (and its many variations) 😁🇬🇧

I got approved 3 months ago with 0 income and no credit score
Epic! Haha congrats! 😄👊💥
Thanks for sharing! 😁
Thanks for watching! 😃
Just doesn't seem like a good deal to me. I think they just count on people not keeping up with all the benifits year after year.
Likely so - more credits to forget = less payout for Amex ✌️
hmm ok so i dont need to climb up the ladder. now i just need to decide if i should apply for the gold or the platinum.
🤔🤔🤔🤔
Good luck on whichever one you decide to go for 👍
I got the platinum card as my 2nd card ever. Only have like a 690 credit score
Congrats! 🎉
I make $120K a year. I thought I’d be able to get the black card but ig not.
Not quite. Likely have to spend $400K+ per year with Amex alone 😁
@@MarkReese Ig the black card really does belong to the elites.
@@jamesphilip4562 - Yep, and we can be among them! 👍Gotta think big & add big value to this world in order to be on that level 💯
So informative. Thanks. :)
You got it! 😃💳💯
I’d rather have the Gold. For me, it makes more sense.
Great card 🏆
Great video Mark. Would you consider the Schwab version the best Platinum card to get?
If you value cash back, yes. If you only value travel benefits & rewards, then it doesn't matter.
I had this card with a 667 score….nice card
Awesome Yasmany! Thanks for sharing your data point! 😃💯
Great video! Question: If you have more than one Amex will you get different "offers/coupons" on each card, or will they all be the same 100 offers?
Different
The platinum card has more offers with some differences
They can vary. Many will overlap, but others can be totally different. 👍
@@rktter - Great to have a 2-player setup for those Amex Offers 💯
Just got approved for platinum with Boujee Express on Friday. 730 credit and had a BCP(which I got in April this year. Income is 80k
Saweeeet! Congrats on your approval, Amanda! 🎉 Thanks for including the data points, too.
Your impersonation was more of a centurion card holder.
😅👍
Got the gold Pikachu card and a power up card to go with it.
😂💳
Best coupon card out there 😄
Haha it ranks highly 😄🏆
If you apply for the Platinum card and get denied, are you automatically considered for the Gold or Green card?
Hi Shavonn - nope, a denial for the Platinum Card is simply a denial. Going for the Gold or Green is a separate application ✌️
What does your credit score need to be
I got the Amex Platinum when my credit score was 650
Awesome! Thanks for the data point & congrats on that approval 🏆
If you have good credit yes, if you have bad credit no. Lol
Excellent clarification right there 😄👍
I own a small business and a full-time job as my main source of income.
Regardless, even if you don't & would still only earn 1X, then the $99 annual fee is still more favorable.
yeah mostly is i am only 6 months in the credit game and there already offering me it 🤣
Haha Amex is putting incentives out there like crazy 😁
I felt itched to get platinum card just only for your drop test. But sounds cheap, I got Apple Card instead. It gets the job done without hefty annual fee, lol. I would say Amex blue cash preferred might be tougher one to get (credit card) compared with Platinum one.
Haha congrats on your Apple Card approval! 😁
@@MarkReese thank you 😊 just perfect timing for my new iPad mini 6 purchase.
@@atsawinthongsumak57 - Perfect timing indeed! 🥇
Cards benefits aren't comparable.
Or do they not care for that?
Hey Christopher - thanks for your support of the channel, you rock! 🥇 You don't need to have a prior relationship with Amex to get their cards.
@@MarkReese You deserve all the respect in the world for commenting as quick as you can to your subscribers🙏🏼 Thank you again for the info my appreciated!!

How do you auto activate offers on MaxRewards Gold?
Simply refresh your linked accounts. It's done automatically.
Two months ago I was denied from getting the Amex Blue Business cash card because I have debt but it is in Good standings. Do you think I will be approved if I apply for the Platinum?
There isn't a way for me to guarantee an outcome. However, the Platinum will likely have easier approval standards. That said, I'd personally take care of the debt situation first 👍
I got the card with 125000 bonus points. I cannot justify keeping it, given that I don't travel now.
Great that you're aware of your situation! Keep it for 1 year, then once the fee posts again, you can downgrade or cancel & get it refunded 👍
@@MarkReese How many months would you say exactly. Does the same go with the gold card.
@@herbertperez7373 - No idea what the requirement is or if one exists.
@@herbertperez7373
Had the same question bro
@@jamescarter2013 So you're in the same situation?
Which bureau do they pull from?
Amex seems to favor Experian, but it may vary based on location.
Also, once you have a card relationship with Amex, future applications are often soft pulls (not guaranteed though).
Its so weird how i dont get approved for any amex but i get approved for any other cards 😭
huh?
Did Amex give you reasons for the denials?
Does the Amex platinum still offer priority pass? I’ve had this card for a year and have the priority pass but heard the pass is discontinued.
Hi Frederick - Priority Pass is still offered on the Amex Platinum Card 👍
@@MarkReese thanks
@@frederickhunter9007 - Sure thing 👍
On the Amex Platinum - do the authorized user gold and green cards have the gold and green bonus categories?
Nope. When you add a Gold Card AU to a Platinum Card account, it keeps the same earning structure as the Platinum Card 👍
I just got a letter in the mail from American Express For the gold card with 80,000 membership rewards points offer. But I literally applied for the Chase freedom flex a week ago and got excepted.
