KitchenAid Proline 7Qt/Commercial 8 QT Speed Control Board Diagnosis and Replacement!

- The Proline 7 qt and Commercial 8 qt KitchenAid mixers are wonderful and powerful machines. On occasion they do need replacement parts, which is almost always significantly less than replacing the whole unit.
In this video we take a look at replacing the speed control board. When you machine has intermittent power, has trouble changing speed or perhaps no power at all, its often an indication of a failed speed control board!

Great to see someone who knows so much about this generation of machines. Glad you're keeping the spare gears when you replace the motor asembly and make it possible for tinkerers like me to replace broken planteray reducer gears!!!
As for the control board, have you been able to figure out how it works and what component cause it to fail in the manner described?
It was a long shot, I appreciate your prompt reply, thanks. I did see another video that replaced a capacitor, I fortunately I don’t think mines the same issue. I may just test all the caps for shorts anyways. Thanks again.
Great videos. Thank you for making the time and sharing your knowledge!!
My Professional HD (KG25 series) had a good actual board, but the plastic that screwed to the housing messed up. Ordering the whole board was still much cheaper than replacing the whole machine, plus I got the regrease kit, plus the two attachments that got lost in one move or another. Thanks to your videos, I was able to completely disassemble the mixer and deep clean it before regreasing it and replacing the speed control board. She now looks new and runs like a dream! Thank you so much!!
Such a pleasure to be of service!
@caseyvaught4605 we also have a KG25 that isn't performing like it should, what problems were you experiencing that caused you to purchase the new board?
@@ericgarland5080 it wasn't increasing speed from 4 to 5 very well, and slowing back down, I almost had to slam the thing back to off. I took the upper housing off and saw that the plastic piece that holds the board to the housing was broken, so it couldn't downshift well. Replacing the whole board assembly, especially from Mr. Mixer was extremely affordable, and well worth learning how to do the replacement. My mixer is boysenberry, which is a discontinued color, and as close to a true purple as I could find at the time.
@@MrMixer316 I have a question about MODEL NO. KP26M9XCER 6qt 590W
Do you have a video on this and how to service it/grease it ?
@@Xboxguy666 I do! This video is for you ruclips.net/video/HxdQnF5AgUk/видео.htmlsi=7ea4Xsi6E47Kqhmj
I just bought a KSM70 for making pizza dough mainly and interested to know what the big differences are between it and the proline mixers? KA are slim on the details.
What about a new zip tie for the cables management?
Excellent video, thank you! I could use a bit of help here . . .I bought a KitchenAid 5.5L lift mixer at Costco last April, (model KSM55SJSXMI) and now I live in Portugal. Do you have a tutorial on how to convert this to 220V and also what parts I need and where to purchase them? The shipping will likely be the most expensive part of the conversion . . . . 😪
Great video, would you happen to do one about disassembling it completely? we are trying to diagnose our kitchenaid but cant find any examples
If you give me a call I can likely get you taken care of. We have another 8qt video on motor disassembly and inspecting the internal gears etc.
Will a bowl lift 5.5 kitchen aid stand mixer mix smaller batches just as well as an artisan? I am buying one or the other. I do not normally do very large batches of anything yet. But if I get better at baking and I want to try larger batches and or eventually breads I thought it might be best to go a head and get the larger pro mixer. However, I don't want to get the larger one if it will not mixup smaller batches. Because that is what I will be using it for the most in the beginning.
Great video, I have a 6quart 6000 pro, while mixing it just stopped, under no load (no contents being mixed) it only rotates ver slow , I pulled the circuit board out and see no obvious burns. Is there any component on the board you can narrow this down to? Thanks
We don't deal with individual components because we warranty our work so we replace the board in it's entirety. Wish I could offer more support!
In my experience, there is too little grease in the gearbox. But not too much either, because that could create unnecessary heat.
Hello, my issue with my KitchenAid is that it does not go into high speed. Do i have to replace the board ?
Hi, what's the difference about this maschine and the artisan 7qt? It is a little bit confusing, i think the artisan 7qt is sold in the European market only. Or is it the same machine?
I believe the artisan 7qt is the same as this machine. The artisan in the US market is a tilt head unit. In the EU it's the 7qt DC motor.
Awsome video buddy thank you have you worked on a kitchenaid pro 450? If so can u make a video or if u have it can u link it here for me thank u
That will actually be the same repair process as the K5SS style machines and the internals are all the same as the tilt heads so any of those videos will pertain to your unit!
Also I have the commercial brand and the white wire inside the cord broke so it had no power that way
Okay, I'm still stuck on the fact that the 7qt and 8qt machines are the same machine. Are you telling me that if I popped some stainless steel attachments and an 8qt bowl on my 7qt mixer, I'd have the commercial machine? Seriously? Can I do that? Why does the 8qt machine only come with a bright orange cord, then? I have so many questions.
Yes that's exactly what it would be 😁. The 8qt comes with the option for the bowl guard and it is the only one with a commercial warranty and it has a few other little features but that's about it. It's virtually the same machine
Do you think I could replace the power plug with a uk power plug and it would work or would I destroy the whole machine?
I have to replace the pcb anyway so while doing it I was thinking of just replacing the plug as well.
Thanks for the feedback
That would wreck it. You would need to rroalce the motor/power cord/speed board and I believe add an r/f filter or it will blow it up.
Hi! I am getting a 7qt KA (bowl lifter) 2nd hand. Seller. Told me the unit clicks when handling dough at speed 3. Apparently it is normal as per KA. Is there a problem with the unit? Is it fixable? Or is it actually done by (poor?) design? Anything I should check or consider upgrading? Thank you!
Great video!
One question though: Anyway to fix the 11-Wire Whip wires? I purchased a refurbished 5KSM7580X and one wire is loose and another just came out. Is it even doable?
I doubt you can, if you look where the wires go in there are little dimples in the metal of the head portion of the whisk. That is where they press on it really hard to hold the wires in place. Once dislodged, it's unlikely it can be fixed!
@@MrMixer316 Thought so. Bummer :(. Thanks for the reply!
Have you ever worked on a breville stand mixer? Or even more specifically a bem800xl? Long story short, i could use a disassembly/ reassembly video, but can’t find a single one anywhere online. Thanks
Unfortunately breville is a brand that is notorious for not making parts available for repair. You could open it, but you can't get the parts. You would have to find another one for parts.
@@MrMixer316 well, I’m pretty sure I don’t need to replace any parts actually… idk if I was just mistaken about the grinding noise i thought i was hearing, or if the grease was dried out and not providing enough lubrication, but i can’t see any damage to the gears at all. It’s been about two years though since I took it apart, so I don’t know exactly how to put it back together, but I was able to find a parts diagram at least. Or maybe I’ll just sell the parts individually instead lol, since they seem to be so hard to find. Save myself the hassle of having to re assemble it and buy new grease 😆
Hey I have an old artisan that someone tried working on previously and couldn’t fix it! I’m handy so I decided to give it a shot. I saw that the speed control was making a contact on the bottom lever so I bent it just to see if the motor would spin! Turns out they had the top speed screw all the way in making contact on gear two and I got a spark and the mixer shutoff.
What are the chances I blew the motor?
Definitely didn't blow the motor, at the most you harmed the phase control board. Hard to say without seeing it for sure but I would chekx to make sure the brushes are aligned properly.
@@MrMixer316 just ordered a new set of brushes! Il report back. Thank you for your time
hello, can you help me. My kitchenaid Artisan® Series 5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer do NOT turn OFF and do not change of level of power. Do you have a video related to this issue? thanks
How new is the machine? It's related to either the speed assembly push rod or the set screw that holds down the speed lever both of which require disassembly. I would start by watching our tilt head regrease tutorial to disassemble and see what's going on inside.
Quick question can u adjust the speed on the board? Just wondering
You can not adjust the speeds on these boards!
I heard you bring up the new 5.5 quart model. How do you think it stacks up against the 8 quart commercial model?
I took the ksm55 5.5 quart mixer apart and it does seem to have the same transmission as the 8 quart model based on the 8 quart models I have seen you take apart on your channel.
The motor is actually a 475 watt ac motor in the ksm 55.
What is your thoughts?
8qt uses a DC motor, it is much better than the AC motors since the torque is higher and operation is much quieter.
Hi I just watched your video I need to replace the power cord on mine can you do a video on that
I can but not sure how soon I'll be able to upload it!
My Proline 7 qt (KSM7586PSR) needs a new Speed Control Board. it shuts off at speed 8. I still have 1 year left on warranty (it was a 5 year warranty). Kitchenaid doesn't want to repair my mixer by replacing the Speed Control Board. They want to replace it with the new 7 qt. 500w AC motor (2 year warranty) (KSM70SNDXCU). Should I go with this replacement, or is it better to have my Proline repaired? I'm worried about the new mixer not being powerful enough or built as sturdy as my Proline. I make a lot of cookie dough and love how powerful the Proline is.
I would 100% repair the mahchine. It's a better stronger unit.
@@MrMixer316 Thanks so much for your fast reply and expert opinion.
@@MrMixer316 My KSM7586PSR has a sticker on the bottom of the mixer that say Max Watts 500. This has me confused about which motor I have. What is your opinion on this?
@@kem382 they all say that, I'm not sure why because 1.3hp should be around 1000 watts.
Do you have a video on how to regrease the 7Qt proline?
I do not, they are kind of an enclosed system and don't really need regreasing. You can add a dab here and there but not overly necessary
@@MrMixer316 thanks. My issue is that occasionally I have black grease leaking from the shaft attached to the planetary, so I thought maybe it needs regreasing.
I have Prof HD from Sam's kg25hoxmc, 525 watts. I bought a foot switch, 15 amp, 250v but 120 v. plug & receptacle that does not work. Footswitch does work with other appliances. Does this not work just because of power deficiency or will it not work on any footswitch?
I am actually not sure on that one!
Mine is a limited edition queen of hearts KitchenAid. 2019 I seen a girl take a ring off earlier on a video of the head and she said that she didn't know they come off until she watched one of your
Videos. My husband looked at my mixer and said those do not come that the ring is built into the the head of the mixer therefore you cannot clean it.
can a DC motor be swapped onto this machine with an AC motor?
Not without spending a ton of money you would have to replace the entire lower housing as well as the cord, speed board and motor/transmission
I think may artisan 6qt and the 8qt are the same motor.
Dude... you are a Pedro Pascal lookalike. 😀
You forgot to replace the zip tie!
It's not imperative. It won't cause issue, but if one were so inclined it could be replaced
