All the other videos had different motor placement than mine. This is the same as mine! So helpful!!! The whole top would rock and I knew it was something loose inside and I was able to fix it because of this video.
Great job. One of the screws has been disengaged which has led to a head movement.Very well explained how to unfold and remove the engine to be able to tighten the bolts. Thank you.
had this issue in the second machine I got - it had suffered from making to much bread dough, I guess. I tapped the screws in the pedestal to extend them 50% and used longer grade 8 screws bolts with bigger heads and Loctite and it hasn't moved since :-)
I'm trying to remove the motor assembly and replace it on my commercial kitchen aid and removed the 8 screws you did in the video but it still seams fastened to the planetary pretty solid. Does it just need to be pried apart or is there a step missing in the video?
I have to replace the motor on my 5 quart bowl lift mixer with the 575 watt a/c motor. Can I replace it with the d/c motor? (I realize the electronics as well, but wondering if the housing has the mount screw holes and will accommodate the d/c proline motor?). Thank you for the video, I saw previously a video on how to change the grease in a kitchenaid tild head stand mixer, so I bought some grease. But I have a 7 quarts mixer and thought to have to change also the grease. Must it be done and how because the motor is very different. I live in France and cannot find the information. My machine shows occasional signs of hesitation (when lever pushed to higher setting it engages) but the main concern is the noise produced when it encounters resistance e.g. intial mashing of boiled potatoes to be mashed with ceramic beater. Any thoughts?
Hi, as you have access to the control board of the 7 QT model, I would like to ask you to measure the output voltage of the board, e.g. the one that goes into the motor. Due to the fact that there is a middle component in the picture - e.g. the speed control board - the voltage that powers the DC motor is not necessarily the same as the mains voltage. I suppose it is (much) lower. Thank you for your help in advance.

The 7 quart is quite nice. All the advantages of the 8 quart commercial, except for stainless steel flat beater and dough hook and NSF certification, for about one or two hundred dollars less.
I never saw the planetary lock pin... I’m trying to separate it from the electric motor/gear but I couldn’t... Could please tell me how to do it? Thank you
Yes, they kinda wiz through some aspects.....4 screws of the "motor mount" hold the planetary in place and a small pin on the shaft has to be removed also..mine came right out..then CAREFULLY pry the pieces apart as you lift up on the motor unit...all screws of the mount must be removed. I just was able to do it and I'm an idiot! :-)
By the time the brushes have worn down so will have the main motor bushings and the tiny first stage planetary gears which are made with sintered powdered metal. But if want to try anyway you can get some from a parts shop and make them fit, filing them down to shape with a file and solder the new leads to the old ones. A bit tricky, but can be done.
@@johnnyjimj Hey, I'm dealing with one of these larger Kitchenaids right now and a bit stuck. It's making some serious grinding noise, hesitating to start, and stalls at max speed immediately. I've taken the motor out and ran it with no gearing, sounds great nice and silent, then tried it back in the machine with no planetary this time to rule that out and it sounds bad again. So I guess the tiny gears are worn although they look fine. It doesn't really have any grease inside the the gearbox so I thought maybe it's that, unlike the domestic ones that are absolutely packed.... Any ideas? You sound like you know a bit about these!

I sure hope you have figured it out by yourself by now! If you haven't, let's clarify things first: when you say you've taken the motor out, are you talking about the motor itself, or the whole motor/planetary reduction gear/bevel main gear and output shaft assembly? If you haven't disassembled it, do so, and be careful as the planetary gear train is comprised of very small sinetered metal gears that easily fall off and any chip in them could cause the issue you describe. Then there is the bevel gear assembly that turns the mixer's main planetary - it is also made of sintered metal, I've seen one in another youtube video with a major chip in the output gear. That too would ruin the whole thing. Finally, the main output planetary gear could in the mixer itself could also be bad. Hope it helps, good luck and let us know what you found out!
The repair quotes are horribly high in Canada - mine is the mechanically identical Costco model that used to sell for $300 new and i got it for free from an acquaintance because they were quoted more than $200 for the board repair. I simply waited and found one for free on kijiji that had a broken main gear and would have cost about the same as the other one to repair ;-)
So..... you absolutely can repair a board...... and you should take greater care when Handling one....... I have actually just repaired a dead machine of the same model by just cleaning the inside and connections on the switch. The switch appears to wear on areas the Machine runs on most frequently. Everything needs to be all tightened up and secure or things like the switch will damage when in use.
Motherboard... Motor would have given signs of hesitation if it's the brushes and would have become noisy if it's a burnt winding. Speed sensor is a very simple, quite rugged hall effect device. Sometimes it's just a burnt power component on the motherboard undersides, especially if the machine has been working hard and is covered in flour.
I'm afraid you've got a broken tooth or two on the main output gear set - that's how I got my second 6000HD for free. Very expensive since it means replacing the whole goddamn motor-gearbox assembly >:-( Which is inexcusable because all these components come apart without a fuss. Wait for one online with an electrical problem and like me make a good one out of the two ;-)
An off the shelf gear may work, check mcmaster carr and see if any would fit. www.mcmaster.com/gears/ Otherwise you have to buy the motor and transmission as one piece. It's insane that they do this, since each piece is easy to take apart.
@@earthwormjim i opened the thing up and inspected the gears and i found no broken teeth or anything. I put them back together it staeted working fine again... but didn't last long before it started skipping again
@@JBLaOHeI It doesn't take broken teeth, just a tooth or two that is less pointy than the rest. It would be hard to see, especially on the ring gear since you would have to look inside to see it. You can buy replacement gear/motor housings, they are cheaper than a new mixer, but they aren't cheap either. Did you try repacking it with fresh grease?
hmmm. if a 600 pro ever died, you could replace motor, controller, planetary gear, output shaft and lower part of casing and have a 7 or 8 quart unit lol:)
Perfect video to show why NOT to get one of these - ANYTHING breaks in the motor and gear assembly you need to replace the whole damn thing. I just can't get myself to support such blatant waste. Same with the control board. I don't know about the US, but her the prices are so goddamn unholy people simply check them out. But do yourself a favour and replace that cheap no name grease they use at the factory in the planetary reduction unit with Moly, they're puny sintered gears that run at high speed and turn to powder fast once they run out of grease.
Totally agree. I find myself here after this tiny 3/4 inch gear broke in the transmission. would take 5 minutes to replace....but the part is not sold whatsoever....anywhere. ridiculous. Now gotta spend $150 on the whole motor/transmission even though everything else is fine
That's exactly why most people throw them out when it happens and switch to Bosch or Ankasrum or a refurbished vintage Hobart with real hardened steel gears. The ones in this machine are sintered powdered metal. If you have one, replace that cheap grease with Moly and use the heaviest grease you can find for the large output gear. It won't protect them from breakage, but from turning to powder from wear.
@@johnnyjimj I have a KA from 1989 (K5SM) and it still works beautifully -- thank God!! If I were to pay $800 for a Commercial 8-quart and then have it die within a year, I would be furious. Only trouble with the Ankarsrum and Bosch is that they're great for bread making, but not so great for cakes and lighter things. I would never use the plastic bowls with the plastic whisks for making Italian meringue (hot syrup poured into egg whites that are being beaten.)
@@sashineb.2114 Indeed, I have a similar one, a K5SS, from about the same time (I believe it's from 1987) and it works great. Got it for a pittance because of a broken wire in the speed controller, just needed a small soldering job. Took it apart to clean and regrease, sacrificial gear had some wear from lack of grease that had pretty much vanished after more than 30 years, replaced that, adjusted the speeds and now it runs runs just like the day it came out of the factory :-) Bottom line, the old ones were made to be serviced, the newer ones aren't made to be services, just components replaced :-( Call me old fashioned, but I prefer to REPAIR things rather than REPLACE them... I'm not a very obedient consumer ;-)
@@johnnyjimj Yes, you are right. I have read reviews where people say they have had their newer KAs repaired a few times, some under warranty and many not covered. I'm not interested in buying a machine that I need to repair or replace every couple of years. I used my 1989 K5SM today to make black Russian bread. I noticed the motor was getting warm after seven minutes of kneading, but it is a heavy dough. Still, it worked fine. I don't think I would try that on a new Artisan, though. Glad you're able to repair and not replace!

😆😆😆😆...I'm a former Marine and we were trained that if you come to a place that's dirty or received equipment that's dirty, you leave the place clean or return the equipment clean! To advertise your business for RUclips and do a half-assed job of cleaning the mixer is just sad!
Honestly, no offense but I would never use a drilled screwdriver for unmount or mount any such item, nor metallic hammer for fixing the planetary. Beside the dirty environment, this may not be a sign of clean, precise and effective work.

There are so many revisions of these mixers, the bottom gear in the differential might be held in place with a circlip.

it is a bit complicated and on these most components are sold individually and will get rather expensive.

On the 7 quart packing grease is not needed, only the planatery gear and motor shaft.

very likely the worm gear is starting to strip gears. These will have to be changed and you must clean grease off each gear and inspect condition.

Can you take apart the planetary? Or is it a one piece? Retaining ring in middle broken and can’t take it apart to slide a new one in.
yes it can be taken apart and serviced. But, sometimes the bearing is worn or shaft slightly bent and still needs replacing.

I have replaced the speed control THREE times. Finally gave up and bought a HOBART.
I hate to think of the cost of the Hobart mixer. In Canada, I've read that new N50s are around $3,700 CDN ($2,900 USD).

Unfortunately, on the 7 quart you would have to replace the whole motor. Carbon brushes are only available on the 5 quart.

It's a 135$. Easy to change.
