I just repaired my 2002 wireless Rainwise gauge. In 2016 I had to replace the reed switch that senses the bucket flip. I keep my screen in place because it keeps crud from plugging the hole at the bottom of the collector funnel. My repair today was to bend back the end of the D cell holder that got stretched when my grandkids knocked the receiver onto the floor.

This is very ingenious, it measures in a nice and accurate manner.
So far, I've got the classic rain gauge,
and since mm of rain = L/m², the bigger the collection area, the more accurate results. 0.25 mm is amazing accuracy for such a small rain gauge.

Hi Mick. I see you removed the plastic screen from the bucket. Do you believe it was causing problems with accuracy? I removed mine today and found there was a small, raised circle of plastic flashing that would definitely hold up drops from reaching the drain hole. Each time it rains my station is the last to record rain of the other stations surrounding my area. The lighter the rain, the further behind my readings are. So, I removed the plastic screen and then used a sharp edge, such as a razor blade, to remove the flashing and leave it smooth. I also like to use Nu Finish polish to keep the plastic slippery so the smaller drops are less likely to stick in place. Also found a slight amount of fine dust stuck in the corner of the rain tipper scoops; cleaned it out. Thanks for making the video.

Super late reply but yes i did remove the screen as i thought it was slowing down the flow of water to the buckets.

Mick, what's the capacity of those two little collectors that collect each .25mm when the tipp in.

+Leonard Skelton Capacity would be more than 0.25mm but the balance is set so when it hits 0.25 the bucket tips. So 4 tips would be 1mm of rain and so on.

@@mickopla is it .254mm of rain per tick but per square meter or for the surface of gauge collector ? (203mm diameter) ? thank you
