Fun Fact .... RAY was the bloke who wrote the show. When they couldn't find an actor, he stepped up. And what a performance. Some of the Best Stuff I've seen in a minute. Bravo!
Brittany (Ray's daughter) is the real life STEP daughter of the Producer, And Dave, Actor Matt Nable, had a Brother with Motor Neuron Disease, who ultimately passed away. Matt was partly in the show because he gave advice to the actor for Bruce (Nicholas Cassim) on how to portray MND.

The best, the very best show I’ve seen for a long while. Funny and tragic, plus Ray’s way of looking at life and it’s consequences is spot on.
His comment on why people are ar**holes. - “because people let them get away with it” is so true. Run an election campaign of that logic and you could become Governor.

he was also Dewey Crowe in Justified and Charles Manson again in MindHunter......

The funny thing is that usually, The Magician didn't actually make anyone disappear. On most occasions he made them dig their own hidey holes.

I went to AA and experienced pretty much the same thing. Men who loathed their own families and wouldn't just quietly end themselves to spare them.

Absolutely incredible series. And just rewatching these highlights, I got the reference, "the magician". RUclips it as this was his first amatuer film that Ray's character is based upon.
A few of the cast from the Sopranos were trying to get him on a podcast...& they thought they were being cat fished...but they got the man himself. They are all big fans of the show & him & the way he went about getting the series made. he wouldn't sell out for big money or let anyone f#ck with the script etc etc.

I've been doing what I can do all my life for the same reason. People ask, "why can't you just let it go?"
My answer, "I can't".
This part of his character I can completely identify with.
What I do now and then, makes me think that next time someone wants to be an asshole to another person, they might think twice.

When Ray stripped down I knew the pedo crew was dead. Ray did not wanna get his clothes all bloody.
You just shouldn't root for Ray, but you do anyway. He's so very practical about violence and funny as fuck, even if he doesn't mean to be.
I have known violent men, in extreme circumstances I myself have been violent but I was always mindful of what was happening, I didn't lose control? Some of the most decent and honest men I ever met in my entire life were violent when they needed to be, end of. Proper decent men that would help you if they could? Friends.
The problem with violence is that it often begets more violence, creating cycles of retaliation and worsening conflicts, not resolving them.
Ray's argument is that violence is justified if someone acts outside acceptable behavioral norms. His premise is that the offender will think twice the next time if his transgression is punished violently. However, this is a flawed premise, as it assumes the offender will back down and not escalate the violence.
But we can see the results of the escalation of violence in gang warfare and wars between nations. One gang member feels disrespected by a member of a different gang, and they rough him up. His gang retaliates by killing the guy who roughed him up. That guy responds by killing that guy and two of his gang. They respond with a driveby shooting, catching innocent bystanders in the crossfire. Now you're left with several people dead and both sides wanting to retaliate, continuing the cycle of violence, leading to more deaths.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is similar in that each side feels they are justified and can cite countless current and historical events as justification for violence, and it continues to breed more violence because there are too many people who feel that their violence is justified and that they are doing the world a favor.
Ray's philosophy is very alluring, but it rests on faulty assumptions about the effects of violence on human behavior and a lack of understanding of human history.

First show I have seen since Sopranos way back that really blew me away. Only one thing I dont like and that is the annoying Russian guy that plays the brother of the wife of Ray´s friend in s1. He was a bad actor. Other than that the show was absolutely freaking amazing

Great acting, great show - but at the end of the day, this is a story about a functioning, amoral sociopath. People that operate in this space are never doing society a favor.

He's a great actor and a great script writer, this show should have continued on, analogous to The Sopranos.
Unfortunately, the writer (who also played Ray), decided to end the show himself. Great show, great acting, great writing.......
