    Nothing says "discreet" like a giant, blood red bag with the words "Survival Kit" on it. It might as well say "Once SHTF happens please kill me quickly and take the items in this bag".

    in my experience if a military officer says "you don't need a bug out bag" then you need a bug out bag. in reality if they say anything just do the opposite and you will be better off.

      Keep in mind, he is claiming to be an officer,("Why This Military Officer Says...") but was a 3rd class petty officer. basically a Navy version of an NCO. When I was an NCO and then a SNCO in the USMC, I would've curb stomped someone for calling me an 'officer', then again, I worked for my paycheck!

    You say S.N.A.P. stands for "Situation not as planned." If it's not as planned, then why do you have everything you *PLAN* to use on a *PLANNED* schedule? A prepper prepares for the unexpected and DOES NOT wear a fanny pack.

    • @bighands69
      @bighands69 4 года назад

      People in the real world when working use things like that all the time. People do wear tool belts and all manner of things.
      Preppers do not carry their big massive 120 pound bag to the local store?

      @@bighands69 you are litterlay everywhere reacting to everyone but i can guarantee you that this bag will not save you in an robery, earthquake, tsunami, terrorist attack, car faillure, forestfire, housefire, civil unrest, or when peacefull protestors will come knocking on your door.
      it just misses too many basic fundamentals. i carried all those things on me before i even considdered prepping. the bag is not a snap bag its just a workingbag which you use at work. if snap ever happens the bag will not proof usefull in any situation but an ordinary working day.
      if you are prepping for a situation which was not planned then the bag can not be small as there are too many variables which will not fit in the bag. and btw an orfinary backpack doesnt look suspicious at all. and the weight depends on what YOU yhink YOU will need to survive an not planned situation.

    Petty Officer is low rank Enlisted. Not an actual officer. That 'power source' is called 'Jumpr,' for those of us who actually watched this video to be informed. Next time, don't have someone who 'doesn't want everyone to know what's inside [his] bag' host a video telling us what to put in our bag. Lastly, the title is misleading, requiring 'Heavy' before 'Bug-Out' to be more precise.

    Every Day Carry (EDC): Pockets, belt, "fanny";
    Sling bag: Small bag (ex: messanger bag) at work or car to get you home or to your BOB;
    Bug Out Bag (BOB): 72hr Kit, Traditional Backpack at home or safe place to get you further from danger.
    Just saying. I like the acronym. Keep it coming.

    BOB = Bug Out Bag.

  • @Tabygrl

    Having served in the US Navy myself, USS John F Kennedy CV-67, I can say this...
    Petty Officer 3rd class is simply E-4. Its the lowest of NCO in the Navy, and it means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of survival training/knowledge. He probably got E-4 directily out of A school, which he would have gone to directly out of boot camp. NOT IMPRESSED...
    His bag is for shit... While I can say that a fanny pack is a nice little bag to supplement your system with, its not an end all be all. It does work really well for a SMALL EDC bag.
    Now, lets check the list, shall we?
    Air--nothing in his bag to protect him from smoke or any other bad inhalents.
    shelter--nothing at all for shelter in his bag
    water--a drinking bottle that will last half a day, and no way to replenish his supply, no water purification at all in this bag.
    food--nothing at all...
    fire--MAYBE he could use his power source jumper cable combo to make a spark, MAYBE....
    But he has his cell phone so that he can call his mommy........
    This kind of video is irresponsible and could get someone killed.

    this is a purse. i bring my bug out bag with me every time i get in the car. dont see why you wouldnt be able to do the same thing and then have your little purse as a walking around bag like it really is. this bag in this configuration wont help me in a Situation Not As Planned unless im already dead, or my battery in my car dies. beyond that theres no shelter, not even a cheapo tarp from the dollar store. you're not ready to bug out. you're not even ready to get home. you're just ready to charge your phone....

Works for government funded officers in a more or less intact society, might not be very functional in a SHTF environment.

    • @ST-actual
      @ST-actual 8 лет назад +1

      8digitPDX like, i get the point he was trying to make in that most people dont or wont need to bug out and a phone charger and some gum should be enough for them, but i dont have two pairs of danners and 4 boot knives because i want to go line dancing with becky. im ready to react at all times and this bag simply isnt doing ANYTHING for me. the most useful part is the bag itself which i could use to find real supplies and bring them back to base.

      Those were "short term" disasters... with a populace that understood that things would "return to normal" within a reasonable span of time. You could still go to a store and buy goods, You had a reasonable expectation that , even if your utilities were temporarily off, service would return. You could grab your phone and get immediate answers.... The scenario of which I am referring has none of these circumstances in play.

    Backpacks are more practical and they give you more firepower (more capabilities) which is what you want in a survival situation. I will carry a little extra weight so I have more options (more resources) and most people can go up to 25% of their body weight with a pack as long as they are in reasonable shape. As a grunt, I would regularly carry over 120lbs of gear and I could still move across a large distance in a short time. Even though I've been out for a couple of years, I'm still in reasonable shape and I can carry a 50lb pack which is a quarter of my body weight quite easily.

    Here's a thought, with the recent evacuation of Edmonton, those with bug out bags found that... 1, have clothing for all types of weather. 2. Cash, not cards 3. If you think you have enough water, think again. 4. Pop up shelter especially if you have a family. 5. Enough food for the family for a week. 6. No one plans to have to leave their home in a moments notice, but you need a place to go, as the forest and city are on fire(the I'm going to bug out into the woods doesn't work). Think ahead of a safe destination. 7. Have spare fuel to get you to where you need to go. Entire city needing fuel the same hour tends to be a hell. 8. Fire ban, so your Ferro rod and multiple fire starting kits are useless. Small portable camp stoves. 9. Water purification systems turned out to be very important. 10. Make sure you have a fire extinguisher in your vehicle.

    I've made a small cooler pack for each car in case we get stranded. But I also have a empty backpack they can throw just what they need in there. I have a small wool throw, gloves,hat, a fold up shovel 3 ft long when extended, water, cliff bars, lighter, water proof matches, tin cup, canned soup, oil can with wick to heat up soup or help with fire starting. I did forget the knife (so important) and ziplocks bag (also important) noone would carry all of this but to be Able to choose what you do need according to your situation and distance from home is a blessing.

    Those people in the stadium after hurricane katrina, who waited nearly 5 days for any emergency services, would have found a bug out bag useful. It doesn't have to be huge or too heavy, just prioritize. An (EDC) and a (BOB) have different purposes.

  • @Updogg3000

    I guess I was wrong, but I thought a bug-out bag was something you had prepared for an emergency, that you had stashed at your house or maybe kept in your car. You wouldn't be carrying your bug-out bag with you at all times, so I don't get why the video is titled that way, especially considering what your "SNAP" bag consists of, which is EDC type stuff.

    That tiny battery cannot jump start a car. You need something with more juice to do that.
    I liked this, but your SNAP bag is actually an EDC (Every Day Carry)
    Which I agree, more people should carry. But if you're bugging out, you'll probably want to bring more than can fit in a "man purse" :')
    [edit] Also, the strap on that shoulder bag shown at the beginning looks like it would be intensely uncomfortable to haul around for more than a minute or two. A sturdy backpack with two straps, rather than the duffel, might be better since it would keep the weight closer to the center of gravity on your body and distribute the weight of the bag more.

Also governments will shut down all personal phone so that the networks clear for strategic use in the early days. Or even its its regional the network towers could have been destroyed.

    Seems to me that what your talking about in this video is an edc bag. Every
    Day
    Carry
    These usually are a much smaller version on the larger BoB. They are usually packed with a small amount of medical supplies, some light calorie and protein bars, a small fire making kit, some rain gear, and water. Of course these things can and probably will differ depending on where your located.
    Just my two sense.

  • @kingofs
    @kingofs 9 лет назад +1

    What he is describing is a short distance get home bag. This guy is on the right path if you commute 5-10 maybe 20 miles a day and your in a generally suburban environment. I drive on a regular basis 130 miles and much of it is semi-rural. Your bag should suit the gravest situation that you could be in. If i took that little pee-dunk bag on one of my trips (especially in the winter) and say a EMP/Solar Flare (I know far fetch but not impossible) good chance me an my family die before we make it home. Always bring a few pair of good socks, not cheap cotton, and keep a great pair of walking/hiking shoes, a weeks worth of medications if you need them, etc... Its really about thinking and planning to encounter the most likely situation in a worse case scenario. It usually takes several days before people start turning into stark raving evil lunatics...But don't count on it. Think of Katrina/Rita. The country folks tend to be very cordial and helpful, Urban environments tend to turn into no go zones pretty fast.
    (1) Cutting Tool: Ultimately, this means a sturdy, full-tang survival knife-something that should always be on your person . A design with a four to five-inch carbon-steel blade and a flattened back edge is typically the most dependable and versatile. Well-made survival knives allow you to do everything from clean fish to split kindling.
    (2) Combustion: Being able to spark a fire is critical in a survival situation. In inclement weather, it’s the first order of business-fundamental to maintaining your core temperature. With at least 2 alternatives plus dry tinder in a bag or maybe cotton balls soaked in Vaseline,
    (3) Cover: A common mistake committed by plenty of people is neglecting to include an emergency shelter in their bag. You need the ability to quickly erect a precipitation and cold-resistant covering to keep you dry and warm in the event of an unforeseen night out in the backwoods. A poncho, wool blanket, tarp, or even a plastic garbage bag will serve you well.
    (4) Container: An ideal container for wilderness use is a 32-oz. stainless-steel water bottle. Staying hydrated is fundamental in an emergency, and you want a durable vessel for storing and carrying water. The high-quality metal additionally allows you to boil water-or melt snow-to render it safe to drink: I would also recommend a Sawyer or Katadyn Water filter, or even a life straw (they don't tell you but you need to let the inlet side soak in the water about ten minutes before drinking the first time to prime the filter element
    (5) Cordage: Sure, you can fashion rope from plant materials in the backcountry-but why expend that time and effort if you don’t need to? Carry a good 100 feet of 550 cord, which can assist in a dizzying array of tasks.

    A more useful item to have is a Day Pack ! A Day Pack with "The Ten Essentials" by the Seattle Mountaineers will keep you safe overnight and bring you home safe the next day. A Day Pack is needed for all or any short Day Hike (or trip) ! A French couple took a short Day Hike at WSNM in the sand dunes and only the baby infant survived. My EDC starts with my 5.11 Tactical pant that carries the Fenix PD35 LED Flashlight and the SOG Trident in Black TiNi with the seatbelt cutter. The SOG tool does not need to be open to be useful... The tool is great for to bash a zombie or cut twine on bales of hay with the seatbelt cutter ! Take only photos, leave only footprints and kill only time ! tjl

    Ok, you got some hate from what i see in the comments. i can understand why, But heres something to remind everyone, A bug out bag ideally is to get you from point A to point B, My point B is about 15 miles away. so i dont really need to carry a whole lot, Hell, i dont think ill be not able to drive to my location. EMP you say? Its called Horses. Of which i have at my point B. And in any case one of my more expensive pieces of bugout gear would be a HMMVW, A real one, Not a hummer. So, Eliminates that problem. Flat tires? Spares. No Electric? generator/vehicle/do without. No Phone? radio, No radio? tell in person.
