Matinee 1993 is one of the movies I lived. In 1962 my dad would give me and my brother $1 plus drop us off with some friends to our local sci-fi Saturday double feature. Great times 😊

Fairplay to Madonna for agreeing to go on S&E and be honest and to the point about her lack of success in the movies. For me, it comes down to do things with are both mentioned- starring in films with poor scripts and not really allowing herself to take direction from a strong director. The closest she got after this was in Evita, but I think because that was a musical, it's not even enough recognition (despite the Golden Globe award). Siskel's comment about her starring in more documentaries seems prescient, particulary 10 years later when I'm Going To Tell You A Secret was released. As for Siskel's remark about starrring in more comedies, sadly the rest of the 90s and early 2000s would see even more abysmal roles in Girl 6, Blue In The Face, the desperate Next Best Thing and the even more inept Swept Away.
@@sha11235 oh, Roger Ebert hated Body of Evidence more than Dangerous Game for sure. Dangerous Game had too much creative control from Ferrara and Madonna (rightfully) didn't like his vision. At least Madonna didn't win a Razzie for Dangerous Game although that performance would've been an easy Target (poor box office performance+Bad reviews+ released the same year as Body).
Sniper did very poorly at the box office and with critics. All the sequels were straight to video. Also Ernest was a national treasure and too many Americans dont remember him.
Funniest scene in Body of Evidence-Madonna testifies she caught Frank Langella’s character in bed with another man. Joe Mantegna’s lawyer says, “he’s not in court. You can say whatever you want about him.” She replies “Yes he is!” The camera looks to the audience and sees him sitting in a row. So he is there. Ooooookay
Matinee is a good little homage, but look up the untold story of the Cuban Missile Crisis. The whole “it was nothing” feeling at the end of the movie…yeah, we came close to mutually assured destruction

I definitely see your point but I think Gene in a lot of ways was harder to impress than Roger was. Roger even admitted to being a lot more laid back on movies than Gene was and you saw that a lot. Still I can see your point as being valid at different times.
