The Four Knights of Gwyn were basically the Avengers of Anor Londo. Just a team of powered badasses that people looked up to as heroes. They even have special codenames. You have Dragonslayer, Abysswalker, Lord's Blade, and... Oh. It really is the Avengers.
Even corrupted and fighting without his main-hand, even without Gough's bow and even with Ciaran crippled by her AI being more designed to fight a player than a Dragon, they managed to beat Kalameet.

Actually, if Kalameet fought for real, used his debuff move, and got a better Attack hitbox (He basically missed Artorias even when he was still), he would have won.
How does this only have 4000 views? This, I'm willing to say, is probably the best Soulsverse video I've ever seen. It's incredible how cinematic the fight is, and how fluidly the engine handles combat that was never intended to be possible. (And, sadly, causes me to lament all the lost opportunities for dynamic AI vs AI combat that could have been taking place throughout the games that the player could have just stumbled into. DS3 gave a small taste of what that could look like in a couple places, but there were so many set pieces that beg to have AI skirmishes that simply don't occur... Lothric knights vs winged knights, deacons vs silver knights, more black knights in smoldering lake to actually stand a chance against the ghru shamans... Hell black knights in demon ruins in DS1 to take on all the Capra and Taurus demons would be an amazing scene to walk into after defeating Ceaseless Discharge and descending into the emptied lake bed. Sure, it would effectively be handing the player free souls, but most of the interesting opportunities take place late enough into the game that the player should have discovered more efficient soul farming options anyway.)
Gough is blind and don't have he's bow, that ornstein it's just a hologram, artorias have a broken arm and kalameet is hurted. None of them can use their maximum potential.
The real Ornstein isn’t in Anor Londo. He was with the son of Gwyn and became his dragon that he rides around to fight you. That’s why you find his armor set in 3. Path of the Dragon.
Fitting that Ciaran went first by way of just charging into open black flames, before Artorias buffs up and ends the fight. This is on account of Ornstein trying and dodging like hell as Gough tanks everything before falling the hardest.
The funny thing is that while she was alive, she was dishing out much higher DPS than the other knights (due to being a human NPC using combo-heavy weapons) but her lack of "boss" hp made that DPS last way too short.

I think this video is good proof of why they didn't mess with Kalameet. And also why Artorias was a dumbass for trying to take on an equally tough foe on his own.
I believe ornstein in this game was an illusion and gwyn knew the chosen undead was coming so ornstein retired or something then gwyn placed his illusion in anor londo and gave smough the duty to guard the princess and die to the chosen undead.

@@ornstein6679 true and true, though in comparison to them based on both their mechanics and lore, Ciaran isn't as strong as the others. she relies on stealth as an assassin according to her lore, and its obvious she isn't the strongest for head-to-head combat as, not only is she not a boss nor giant, but her weapons and armor don't really help her against a player who is level 200+ or so. its been a while so I forgot my exact level, but I do remember all of my stats are 35. plus as an NPC, she doesn't get any stronger in the later NGs, unlike bosses. Artorias' tale is also very tragic. trying to be a hero and save Oolacile and their princess Dusk, only to have his arm completely shattered, had to leave Sif but not without protecting Sif, by sacrificing his shield to form a barrier to protect Sif from the normally hostile humanity sprites, and ultimately hollowing shortly after escaping while Sif spends millennium near his grave, guarding his corpse and his relics, including the covenant ring.
If we're being specific, Smough lost his right to ever be made a knight because he ground up and ate the bones of his victims, and Gwyn wasnt about that shit
