I've been an aircraft mechanic since I was 19 and 5 years later, I was doing fine, got the hang of the job, and was making decent money. Just at the turn of the New Year, I decided I was bored and put it all on the line to try to be an audio engineer. So far it's been infinitely more rewarding.
This is the best. I walked away from a lucrative corporate gig. Walked away from a successful band (I was the backup singer). I wanted a quiet life. Have not regretted it for a moment. And no, I am not filthy rich like these people.
"I'm really good at this game. I should keep playing.
I'm really good at this game. So I should stop playing."
Wonderful! 🦋✨
Getting my house paid off and my son turning 3 helped me say goodbye to my corporate job.😊
Reinventing myself right now!
What a renaissance man! Love the talks these two have together
I always find people who do this the most interesting people out there. Filthy frank turning into Joji is a great example of this. Life is a book you write with your actions, the end of the book is when you die, write some interesting chapters.
new zealander here. Jacinda left cause her polls were abysmal and she was looking to get crushed lol
Plus there's only so long a human can maintain that grief stricken/virtue signaling look on their face.
thank you, came here for this comment
Derek is your #1 guest even over Jamie or Naval
Reinventing oneself is not that hard that somone would think !
I added How To Getting Rich on my library wait list.
Kinda hard to do when you’re barely making ends meet. Hell, even if you managed to acquire a little comfort in life….
There's no "how"... This is "Why" to reinvent yourself
Agreed. I didn't get the "how" part from it either. I think the answer is to just do it. Switch directions and start doing something else.
How surreal hearing the words admire, and Jacinda Ardern in the same sentence.
One to watch for in this regard: Max Verstappen, 3x world champion, only 26 years old, has already announced that he would likely quit F1 after 2028, 31 years old, when his contract runs out. Whereas recent F1 champions like Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, and Kimi Raikkonen keep on to their 40ies.
Derek is the MAN. love these convos. can y’all record em all 😂
Pretty sure jacinda got tapped on the shoulder but the other ones spot on
❤❤❤
Jacinda Ardern?
That dude can rock a bald head
On the other hand maybe people move around too much. The average ownership of a business is eight years. That might be great for a fast growing tech company, but maybe the smaller gig and winning is the long game. I know it worked for me. Ran a business for 30+ years. Now at age 55 I'm planting those trees.
Didn’t Gotye quit because of a bad royalties case instead?
apt title IMHO: "Retiring at the peak"
This doesn't say anything about reinventing yourself. All the examples he gives are about people who would have had to quit whether they liked it or not. That's not a genius move to quit when the writing is on wall that you will be fired lol.
... This is basic rationality and level-headedness...
Yeah he's acting like an actress hired for her looks and retiring when she's no longer got them is crazy, as if she had any choice.
@@michaelanthony4750 Serena Williams was also a bad example. If anything, she's probably played a few years too long. The last few years she barely played any matches and skipped or had to skip most tournaments to focus on the big ones (or due to injuries), and even those she played she's barely won anything. Retiring at (almost) 41 is very rare in tennis.
Anyway, he does make an interesting point (though with bad examples), but it would take a special personality to go through with this.
Wait, what, did Derek just sing that? Sounded like autotune. Legend.
A video about... Nothing. Get rich and then do whatever the f#@k you want. Top tip.
easy to do when you’re filthy rich
Where does he get his money from?
@@jordanzhu4723 Reinventing himself
wow.... the cycle is coming back.. people are seeing htat make more than enough money is not good for you.... you need to have enough for retirement... and then if continue making money.... it's not for your needs
