The power of Chopin's music. If he had just written this short piece and nothing else I reckon he still would be remembered. I just wish there was a violin performance of it on RUclips. I found for op. 69 no. 2 and it's beautiful. Thanks Cole.

Wonderful, informative introduction and background to this beautiful piece of music! Thank god, J. Fontana did not follow F. Chopin's wishes to destroy these 3 manuscripts! Love all the variants in the last section. Exquisite performance, as always!

I have always thought of this as being a Waltz in Ab because it ends there and Ab seems to predominate over F minor for most of it, at least to my ears, but whenever I see this waltz as "Waltz in x" it's always as Waltz in F minor, which doesn't really make sense to me. Like sure maybe the first 4 bars of the main theme are F minorish, but Ab major is the main key of emphasis and is where it ends. I know pieces don't always end in the same key that they start in, but still, I'd expect a "Waltz in F minor" to be more clearly in a minor key than this waltz.

That’s odd! I agree with you, it should be Waltz in A-flat for sure.
