  • In todays trout fishing video I'm out at Hesperia Lake. I try several techniques in an effort to get the trout to bite but I discovered that they only wanted one thing, PowerBait. I will reveal the flavor of PowerBait I have the most success with regardless of whatever lake I find myself at. Thanks for watching.

    Bait bite still dominating at Hesperia, which is weird. I agree, you gotta bring options to every lake.

    You killed it again Rob on the automatic rod holder on Corn Yellow! Great job! I had some luck at Yucaipa last Saturday on Notorious Jigs. I used a triple drop shot rig about 6 inches apart with the bottom jig on a jighead weight and the other two jigs with just a size 8 mosquito hook. Caught two trout at one time both hitting on the top two jigs with the mosquito hooks.

    My "go to" dough baits are Power Bait Salmon Peach and Zeke's Sierra Gold Corn. A lot of people overlook Zeke's or think that it is inferior....but I have found its dough baits to be every bit as good as Power Bait. I use both brands.

    Howdy, great video! Corn powerbait is the best! Question, noticed you activated the auto rod holder, was the bite to light versus a harder hit!Was that the reason Thanks Lee

    • @SeaSpankerOutdoors
      @SeaSpankerOutdoors  Год назад +2

      Yes and no. Sometimes I’ll see light nibbles and activate it to set the hook which is what happened with the second fish in the video. The rod holders get a little gummed up when you fish as much as I do which was the case on this day. So they weren’t activated like they normally do so I had to do it manually. Usually some WD40 or silicone spray in the mechanism does the trick 🤘

    Do you have any tips for catching holdover trout using bait? Fooling holdover fish who are smarter than dumb stock trout is a difficult task. I mean any kind of powerbait instanly fools day 1 planters right but when its 5 months later those fish are smart and will live off you not catching them I swear they are something else

    • @SeaSpankerOutdoors
      @SeaSpankerOutdoors  9 месяцев назад

      I just throw a variety of baits at em till they bite. Micetails, small foating trout worms on a tiny #14 mosquito hook, bait under a bobber, nightcrawler, power eggs….. those are my go to baits

    • @JesusLORD690
      @JesusLORD690 9 месяцев назад

      That's true. I've discovered that it's not the baits that fool the fish, but rather the mind games. I've been reading a lot about fish psychology. If you dead stick the bait for a while, until you're itching to re-cast but resist the urge and keep drowning that worm or bait, the fish see it. They're counting on you to make it look natural, like their environment, before they can get annoyed and bite. Reeling in the bait too soon after deadsticking conditions the fish to become lethargic and know what's not real. I think trout are smarter than people give them credit for, especially holdover trout, not just fresh planters.
