Dimitri's character growth is really one of the stronger elements of this movie.
He really did grow to care about Anya to the point where the reward money wasn't a major priority anymore.
But him planning for months to con an old woman who suffered was something he had to fight to overcome.
You could take out everything with Rasputin, and this movie would still work.

That slap is absolutely everything. Most shows and movies put in a slap for the sake of conflict and shock. But that slap felt earned story wise. If someone convince me to train “regain” my lost memories to potentially reunite me with the last living family I have no memory of. And found out it was just to con that person out of their money. I would’ve been feeling so sad and enraged and lonely and all the other connected emotional combos from those three. When a man refuses to leave a woman alone after she justifiyingly demands he does so and he grabs her arm. I too would slap him with all the force I could muster in my opera gloved hand.

@@disneyvillainrocket1 Yea, although i sometimes hate the fact that it is an Anastasia movie (Like bro,the historical names and personas written in a fictional movie is something not good, but not bad if the story ,plot is good.) ,i find it not bad sometimes.
Like, I don't think that shipping Anya and Dima (You know, our Dimitri 😂) is good cuz Dimitri is a random person ,like ...random OC 😭 (Bro, that's an insult i didn't mean it ) ,and Anastasia....you know, died in 1918 ,and she didn't meet any Dimitri with whom she would fall in love ,like bruh, cuz two things that always comes into our minds are :
      1.Like i said,she died .Yea,died,Carl!
2.Never had to meet our boy and neither at least survived during the shot ;(

What do you think of it?..-
WAIT ,OH,i would like to tell you my opinion about Rasputin.
There are some,i mean BIG problems with him .
      So,where to begin...
1.Bro died in 1916,2 years before the Romanovs death.
      2.For the sake of God,he wasn't a villain! 🥲
He didn't kill the Romanovs family,Lenin did!
Why did creators of this movie (Don Blut, was that the name of creator?) make him look so bad ,when Rasputin was THE FRIEND of the Romanovs family?
Like bro,at 1916,after the death of Rasputin's,ALL THE MEMBERS OF THE ROMANOVS FAMILY came to his funeral:(
I don't know why the creators turned Rasputin into this, but ...ok?...i don't know?...

The ballet that Anya, Dmitri, and Vlad go to in both the film and the stage musical is different, The movie, it's CINDERELLA but in the musical, they go to SWAN LAKE.
There's an extended number in the musical while the trio is watching the Ballet entitled QUARTET AT THE BALLET. It basically breaks down the characters points of view.... Anya, Dmitry, The Dowager Empress, and the created Gleb (which replaced Rasputin). If this song was in the film, they could have showed more with the animation of the Ballet but close ups on the characters with just their voices singing in their heads. Kinda like with SOMETHING THERE from Beauty and the Beast.
