The video for this bag by the designer is fabulous. She has a different way of doing the last bit. Sewing the bottom of the bag and the lining. It does require the bag to be birthed through the zipper pocket, but you don’t need any binding on the inside. It looks very professional the way it’s done on the designer’s video. I made my zipper pocket larger for that reason as my bag was all leather. It was a struggle to birth but that was the only hard part. Another great Lauren video!

I don’t think it’s a change. She says in the video that she didn’t know how to write it! I think some things are too hard to describe in words, but the video is very clear on the method.?
The lining and vinyl are not lying flat on top of each other..tuff corner's..have to be spot on..Great Bag.

Lauren your bag came out beautiful. I made this bag and didn't remember having the problems with the bottom corners . I didn't need binding either. Blue Calla has a video with this bag that may give you a different ideas. I love watching your videos and have learned a lot. Thank you

I've made 2 by following video rather than pattern and without binding. Goes together easily but birthing it was hard work!
Celine doesn't use binding any more but leaves part of the lining bottom open and sews ends then closes up. Nor does she use zipper tabs. Watch her videos and they made it easier.
Also Seams legit did a video where she split the zipper and sewed each side separately then put zipper pulls on!

Lauren, have you uploaded the update for this pattern? I made the original and had all kinds of problems, but haven't tried the update. I don't know what was changed, but you've inspired me to try it again. I love the look of the bag and the materials you chose are perfect. Thanks for showing us that things don't always turn out perfect even for the experts.
You are a trooper. I would've just worn the bag inside out. That birthing process and trying to finish the lining looks like a nightmare.
At 1:15:40 you say you are going to use quite a bit of seam allowances. You have to use the same seam allowances as the exterior of the bag or maybe even a tiny bit smaller because of the way they fit together when you sew all the layers together. Because if you are using a bigger seam allowances the space is smaller for the exterior to fit into there.

Hey Lauren your bag came out beautifully love the orange.... Blue Calla has a video on how to do the bottom without binding but you have to birth through the pocket

She made the borona bag fellowing your video and noticed that maybe you could increase the width of the base since you have added an extra part below the zip area. Just her penny for thoughts. Hi Lauren, great video and thanks for sharing all your experiences with us. Have you seen the videos made by Celine of Blue Calla for the Boronia? She has some neat ways of doing with zipper with zipper tape and not having raw edges on the inside of the bag. Her youtube channel is just "BlueCalla". I do love watching the different techniques out there, learn something new every time!

OMG, it is still a beautiful bag but how frustrating!! You handled it like a pro! I think I will wait a while to try this one as much as I want to make it. Do you think this would have been any easier on a cylinder arm machine? I'm not sure it would.
Just watched your struggle with the base. An idea...what if you sewed the outside base together on the inside and then do the same with the lining? I've only made one of these bags, but might be worth a try. Such a gorgeous bag. I wonder if she changed this on the update?

There is a series of videos from Blue Calla on the Boronia that might help with the issues with boxing the bottom. I think it’s part 4 that shows how to do it.

btw when i use foam i use trex super glue dst under my hardware and then cover it with duct tape or masking tape so it will stick and its a permanent super glue grade double sided tape!
I also had tremendous problems but with the top. My fabric was not so rigid and the zip did not sit well. With all the bulk it was very difficult to get the same amount of zip showing on either side not being able to feel the edge of the pressure foot easily. So the zip was all wavy. Also the mere fact of adding the zip which had a strong fabric to the lining shortened the length and there was fabric over at the end which would have meant recutting the bottom sides. I spent hours unpicking and resewing which strained the fabric and made it even more impossible to get the zip to lay nicely. After one not so bad attempt I top stitched. Even cutting down the seam allowance the lining side was bulky and pinning it down tightly still resulted in an uneven seam line on the lining side. I have been sewing for many years but had to admit defeat with this project as
Lauren did. The design is attractive but using vinyl, stabiliser and lining makes it too difficult to sew with the precision required to get a good professional finish. The pattern instructions do emphasise the necessity for proper measuring and cutting but even doing this I found with all the bulk and dealing with a very large unwieldy piece it was just too difficult to sew as required. Like Lauren I will not be making another.
Love the bag. Really like this shape bag and size. The bottom just looked like too much fabric. Has to be a better way to fix this problem. Otherwise, I think it turned our nice. I loved the bright pop of orange. I hate bags I can’t see inside because the lining is a black hole. Thanks for another great video. Don’t care for the commercials though.😉

It’s a Tandy leather chalk marking pencil. But just the refill cause my pen broke but the refills are SUPER cheap on amazon! 😂

Aren’t they great! I can make anywhere from 0-30 in a day! Not handbags but like tote bags at most probably 5 handbags. But man it’s exhausting!
That is so much, that would be exhausting! I love to sew while you sew, felt bad for with the purse...i was impressed you didn’t throw it across the room, way too much work to have it not turn out. ☹️

Next time try goo be gone on the glue. Let it soak right in the fabric and then rub a little with a cloth. It will come out. Probably will even work now.

I did not understand why you sew the corner after the bottom innerlining.
