    Thanks for sharing your concerns! I totally get them, and hope I can put your minds at ease by answering 😊
    - The #1 reason for the new breeding facility actually wasn't for snake expansion; it was for biosecurity reasons. Since we receive 1-10 surrenders daily into Adoption Island, we didn't want to risk our personal collection being exposed to unknown animals. The added benefit to the space we found is that it'll allow us to expand breeding snakes, but it's really just an added bonus.
    In regards to breeding expansion, we definitely understand the concern for oversaturated species. We actually witness it daily with the staggering number of surrenders we get 😬 We primarily focus on species that aren't seen often in rescues, like hognoses and unusual colubrids. You'll actually learn in upcoming videos that we're downsizing our bullsnake breeders (as much as I love them) because there just isn't a high-enough demand for them in the community. However, our hognoses were sold out and/or claimed within 24 hours, so we're changing gears to focus more on them to reduce wild-caught hognose demand/sales due to lack of availability.
    -Regarding egg and baby videos, we also think they're a bit repetitive every year. However, they're still by far our most popular videos, so we try to appease the general public by filming most of our clutches 😊 Don't get me wrong- I still *love* watching every clutch hatch! It's my favorite time of year! But, I do have a fondness for our more educational-style videos. Those are our least popular videos though, so we have to play a balancing game by weaving them in appropriately to "trick" kiddos into learning 😂
    Also, RUclips is unpredictable, so we as a business need to avoid "putting all our snake eggs in one basket" so to speak, which is why growing and diversifying (with the store, warehouse, etc.) protects the business in case RUclips were to shut down or something.
    - Lastly, we absolutely still care 100% about our reptiles just like we did when they lived at our house. Sadly, we had to let our curator go recently because she didn't provide a high enough standard (not enough enrichment, etc.). We admittedly have high care standards, whether they're on display in our zoo, or are one of our breeders. They're all our family 🥰
    I hope this helps put your minds at ease!

      Thank you for mentioning the oversaturation of animals. There is way too many ball python and crested gecko breeders in a lot of areas for example. It becomes even harder when they are larger animals like bullsnakes that need more space. People need to remember it's not easy to sell these animals, especially when there isn't the large exposure like Snake Discovery has. It's great to hear about the waiting list that ensures the animals you breed do have homes available as soon as possible.

      I really respect them as animal educators so I'm just wondering is anyone else except me feeling dissapointed that they are turning even more into mass producing animals. And specially right now when the market has been going down and specially ball pythons are totally over produced that some breeders have even started killing the snakes that wont make as much money. With mass producing animals there is a risk too that you will just turn to another puppy mill and can't control that you are selling your animals to people who will actually take care of them and not just abandon them (reptile rescues are already over filled). So considering the risks and how unethical specially mass producing animals is I really thought they would focus more on their reptile zoo in the future and maybe smaller breeding if animals where there actually is a market. And on rescuing. So personally at least I kind of feels dissapointed specially conserning the over breeding if reptiles and I was really hoping the surprise would be something else rather than a reptile breeding facility. I really hope they at least focus on breeding animals that are more rare or where there is a market and not as example ball pythons that are totally over growding the market. Kind of feels like this is just a way to make more money and that at least makes me feel bad when it has to do with living animals but then not everyone has the same opinions and views about animals or reptiles.

      Unlikely since they were kept in the back away from the zoo exhibits where only staff go. And remember, their ambassador animals are still staying in that space.

    Feeder breeder room? Wouldn't take much space for mealworms, dubias and red runners maybe. Maybe a stock pond or two to grow out tilapia or others safe fish for feeders?
    Plant corner to propogate/grow some larger specimens for your zoo use?
    I'd recommend a washer drier combo too. Maybe a steam cleaner too, so you can sanitize items and reuse some cloth things like towels safely. And a pull out bed/cot/couch, so someone could sleep overnight in case of bad weather events.

      I seem to be in the minority, here, but this vid raises a red flag for me. At what level of production do ethical breeders cease to be ethical? I get that if you up the supply of captive-bred snakes, there’s less of a market for wild-caught but does there really need to be a transition from lengthy waiting lists to a market glut of reptiles? I’ve been watching for a long long time and I’m glad the Snake Discovery ventures have been successful thus far but this feels like too much. I hope I’m wrong and all goes well.

      They're definitely better than some other breeders, but I do think there is room for improvement in providing better enclosures for their breeding animals (not saying everyone needs a zoo level enclosure, but definitely bigger and more room for enrichment. Also considering how to get more vertical space for species that enjoy climbing).

    • @kittybun8845
      @kittybun8845 3 месяца назад +16

      @codysmith5751 I definitely agree with you. My problem is less with the fact that she wants to produce a wider variety of morphs and species, and more about the fact that she's still breeding in racks. I know they're controversial, but it's been proven that snakes stay healthier and produce more consistently in larger enclosures. With this new facility, they should really give their breeders larger enclosures before buying any new ones. It's starting to feel like animal milling, and if these were cats or dogs, it would be illegal.

    • @kittybun8845
      @kittybun8845 3 месяца назад +11

      Please keep in mind that while she is a great breeder as far as social media goes, she's nowhere near the best. Nobody seems to remember that she used to keep two hoggies in each bin to maximize the amount of animals she could own. Even though she's clearly improved from this, she could still be offering far more space and enrichment for those animals. And although she doesn't say it outright, she does delegate their care (as highlighted by the curator caption in the video) in favor of prioritizing screen time and connecting with an audience. She can say all of the right things, but that doesn't mean she's doing all of the right things. If she plans to fill this large building with as many snakes as she can fit, that feels more like a money move than fulfilling a passion. This all coming from somebody who also breeds snakes.

    • @wildside306
      @wildside306 3 месяца назад +1

      I'm not sure you can call them ethical breeders. Sure they provide more than some, but that isn't a good measurement of ethical breeding. Breeder animals have the worst life of all reptiles, imo, they deserve the most, not the least, welfare over profit and all that. I like that they provide some fake flowers for enrichment, but the reality is they need to be giving more space to be considered ethical, and need to stop tormenting baby snakes as seen in almost every baby video.
      I don't see them using that building to upgrade enclosures, I hope they prove me wrong tho.

    I remember when I first started watching yall years ago and Emily couldn't even get Ed to be in front of the camera at all. Amazing how much has changed and improved in the last 6 ish years. Congrats on the well deserved expansion!

    This is so cool. I hope yall get all the locks you can get so no one breaks in. Also the garage door. Always lock it in all 3 places.

    I love watching you guys grow and expand! I started with watching your channel when you were celebrating 100K followers by doing an enclosure tour in your house and now you’re expanding to your 3rd separate facility! So cool!

    Im so excited for you guys.
    Ive been watching from back when everything was done out of your house, The first video I ever watched was setting up a new filter for Rex, and I commented a question about whether the filter had to be cycled or if it didn't matter since she didnt breathe in the water like fish....you replied to me and I was so excited. I've watched every video since then, with the exception of the catching goldfish one, and that was purely because I have pet goldfish that I adore and it hurts to see them released into the wild and then having to be killed.
    Youre one of the very few channels that Ive never got bored of watching! Im excited to see how you continue to grow

    I’m so happy for you guys and to see your journey from breeding snakes at your home to moving house to your zoo to your new breeding facility. So deserving!!
    PLEASE tell me you guys are getting or already have security on your facility so all your babies and breeders are safe ❤
    Oh! And blackout the windows so no one can just look around inside the windows from the outside like a creep or crook 😅

    I continue to be impressed by how much more comfortable Ed has become on camera over the past few years. I remember the days when he would shy away from it entirely and not say anything but now he actually filmed himself doing things and talking to us like it was no big deal.
    Congrats guys! You really are growing wonderfully not just a channel but as people.

    This is so exciting to see you guys getting a massive breeding facility to expand all of your projects and collections! It feels like not too long ago I was watching you all breeding snakes in your home and then running out of space for eggs in your zoo. I can't wait to see a grand tour of it all filled up!

    I love watching their growth from a small RUclipsr that loves reptiles to a manager of a zoo and breeding facility.
