- In this video, we put a Predator 212cc engine on Taylor's $50 go kart. It probably wasn't the best idea to put such a fast engine on it, as the steering, brakes, axle, and seat need work.

Preston what I will list you is what I personally think is the best one to start, once you buy the motor take the governor cause the clutch and that governor on it can explode the piston

This really gives me the itch to build something like this. Finding that old cart frame cheap, locally, has become quite the hassle though! Time and patience I guess.

post an ad on Craigslist saying you're looking for old go carts, after a week or 2 you'll have an offer. worked for me
Seeing this video makes me want to go get my old go-cart out of the shed.
I bought it used back in 1991. Last time I drove it was in 1995 and the 5hp B&S ran great but smoked out the neighborhood since it was burning oil so bad. I put that go-kart on a shelf in the shed at my parents house back in 1998 and its been there ever since. I used to go thru at least 5-gallons of fuel everyday I drove it. I can remember when some friends and I took our go-karts over 40-miles on US-70 in the middle of the night when the highway was completely dead. Seemed like I always ended up towing one of the others back from our adventures. Too bad there isn't really anywhere to drive it now or anyone to race with...

Yeah still well im going too build my own basic one augest 3 with just foot Stering and this is maybe going too Sound crazy but its going too have a small MC motor from 1970 50-60 horse power engine. A power House if you ask me and im going too upgrade too a better go kart latter right now i just Want too say ha in my brothers Face( he is saying i cant build one i shall show him)

This is awesome stuff can't wait to see the 4 way race! I just went out and bought a race kart(almost completely disassembled) with a predator 212. Paid 275 and had it running that night. All thanks to you guys!! Now I just need a torque convertor.....
for a future project you should turn that old gokart frame into a power savvy beast, with a 420cc engine, govoner removed, aftermarket airfilter and exaust. it would be realy cool to see once your done the radio flyer ratrod

I've got 10 go-karts and 6 mini-bikes sitting in the back yard and on the front porch for the grand kids and neighbor kids to ride. This reminds me of the stuff I did when I was about 10 or 12 years old. Ike and John have come a long way since then, and hope they keep it up. I'm 68, but still get a kick out of it even though I have a lot faster stuff now.
The price of those engines has gone up. Bought my first one today for $124.99
Now all he needs is another 212 on the other side. 😁

I had a similar cart when I was a kid. I had to block the wheel while I started it, or it would start rolling. Is that what the clutch does?

When you drift right the moter cuts off if you unplug the oil sensor u can drift with out it cutting off

I remember when I put a 6.5 Honda on my sketchy kart when I was 13. one wheel peels, stretching/throwing chains, burning through tires weekly. I miss the them days. :'D

I have the same 212 cc engine on my metal Go Kart frame and the motor broke my frame in 2 different places by my mount its so strong but until i weld it i have a cumalong from the front end to the back end to bring the frame together haha works for now. Those motors are very fun on dirt roads btw!

So what's the top speed you can get on a go kart with a predator 212
What I would like to see is a torque converter and one new tire to replace the bald one. Then race them. Take the governor off of it too. Make the little red one just as fast as the other cart. And one last thing, You guys might consider knee and elbow pads. You're doing the right thing protecting your heads with skull caps. You might even consider gloves. All this will help protect you if you happen to get tossed off. Also get, a roll bar.

Wow i have that same exact frame with the same setup you know what will make driving that go kart even more fun, Disconnect the yellow cable by the on/off switch for the oil sensor so you can drift right ways its so the engine doesn't shut off when going sideways it super fun and you don't even need to take off the governor because the motor already has enough power to power slide u sideways best of luck to you guys would be awesome to see a video of you guys trying it

Just dug up my old kart from when i raced as a kid, used to do 45mph with 3hp briggs, mid mounted and my 160lb 10 yo fat ass riding it at the time, im gonna go pick up one of these and see how she does 20 years later, thanks for the info on the engine!
Gonna be putting my 212 on my old worn out kart that i also paid 50 bucks for it used to have a honda GX120 which is about the same size as my 212 cant wait to get the old kart up and running

One wheel drive will make it spin in circles so you need the 2 wheel axel

What is the name of the farm supply store that you got the clutch? We have tractor supply here but like you said, clutches are $60+ there and I'd rather get the same quality for cheaper
hey i dont know any thing about these engines but i was planning on replacing my atv engine with one of these but why do you need a clutch system. again i dont know much about engines ive onnly used and worked on a manual gear shofting atv engine.

I have a question I got a go kart with a predator 212 engine on it and it does not have a clutch and obviously just putting a centrifugal clutch with a chain and another sprocket would be the easiest but would that be as good as a torque converter or would a tour converter be a lot better please help me answer my question

Id love to see competitive racing with this thing. Racing with traction is easy, imagine a small course with cones and horrible thin/bald tires. Competition makes everything better :)
Fyi: if you're having problems with or an excess of Black Widow spiders, cultivate or otherwise advocate the proliferation of Mud-Dauber wasps; they love spiders, and Black Widows are their absolute favorites to feed to the little larvae.

Live axle and some new meats should solve the traction issue.
BTW, my monster moto 80 just blew a clutch into three pieces on the back plate and the crankshaft chipped at the keyway slot. Totally bummed😭

Please respond. If I take the governor out and don't change the flywheel and rod will it be fine. Like will the flywheel and rod not break. Would I be fine with just the stick and not the billet flywheel and rod?

Really, it should be. We don't have billet parts on our karts (which have removed governors), and nothing has blown up on us (yet).

So guys I bought a predator 212cc from harbor freight and the normal one that you bought has a 70mmX55mm 2.8"X1.8" bore stroke and a 0.91 gallon fuel tank and the one I had to buy do to the one you bought being out of stock has a 70mmX55mm 2.8"X2.2" bore stroke and a 0.74 gallon fuel tank and it has more strict EPA/CARB regulations so it can be sold in California even though all the other specs are exactly the same so my question is why do I have a larger bore stroke and will it make my engine perform differently than the ones you buy if you can help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Mark Washington no it replaces a clutch but you need a jack shaft to go from the tq converter which is belt driven to the chain drive which goes to the axle
