Okay quick correction, took me a while to realize. Not all tower levels give gems when completed. They only give the indicated main rewards stated on the stage.
My friend took my phone and wasted my gems on summon 😭😭😭 So I need to save more to actually get upgrades. Tbh I didn't know you get more gems in nightmare mode lol since I never tried it. Thanks for the tips!

Also you can max stars on your weak weapons. It is very easy method to farm gems.
