If your preapproved for the Venture card I'd say you have a solid possible approval for the Venture X if you haven't applied for a new card in a good while. I think 20 cards is a safe spot, if you want to play it safe and go with the Venture card it would still be a solid card. Capital One Lounge access is one perk the Venture card doesn't offer, curious if new Venture apps get a metal card still. I have a upgrade on one of my accounts to Venture but hear upgrades get a plastic card haha. Also 10K Venture cards get upgrade offers down the road to a Venture X. If you're not concerned with a bonus this is a good route, C1 also allowed credit lines to be moved around between accounts now so a 10K cl is possible in most cases.
venture x is all around easy to justify. 400 bucks a year worth of travel spend that you can run through their portal is all you need to justify the fee. even the biggest capital one haters wouldn't find it difficult to get value from this car with only a small amount of effort.
