The greatest trick the oil companies ever did was to blame the consumer
Do you really think oil companies just pollute because they wanted to? All of these top 100 companies that produce 70% of emissions do so BECAUSE WE DEMANDED THEM TO. Don't blame them lol blame the human populace
It’s kinda like drug users and drugdealers, you can’t really blame Any of em
Of course the consumers are to blame. It's consumer’s greed that has brought the Earth down, the companies and politicians PROVIDE!!!
@@o.h.a9826 The oil companies produce an abundance, far more than we need.
@@jakelaurent6 more than we need lol. If anything they're not making enough energy. We need more energy to help developing economies and drag people out of poverty.
Sound effects are 10x higher than they should be..
can't hear a thing
One of those times we're all reminded why audio engineers are a thing..
WHAT!?
They clearly don't exist at Vice.
I was thinking the same thing. Background music drowns out soft voice.
And this is a company that has 400 million from Disney now for many years.. (if you didnt notice the obvious political bias since Disney controls abc news, vice, etc)
I thought I was going crazy.
Respectfully y’all should’ve prioritized the narrators voice levels over the background songs.
Honestly this should be re-uploaded with the music level down a few db
At least they put in subtitles this time.
I gave up at the 44 second mark due to the music and the annoying clapping sound.
Literally the first thing i thought in the first 3 seconds
agreed, sounds like an unintentional mixing error
Please remix it and reupload because the dialogue is way too quiet to hear over the music. If you need someone to QA the work before it's uploaded, I'm available.
Completely agree

Yeah great content! but this is an issue. Also the title and thumbnail is bland, I didn't even want to click on it at first.

Music is way too loud, can barely understand what is being said
Other way around. The voice is too quiet. The music is of a normal volume. If you watch a different video you can see this.

Its a bit difficult to listen to this clip. Turn up voice volume and turn down music plz!

I'm a boomer, and my peers have literally said, "As long as it doesn't happen while they're alive." I was crushed, because they seemed like decent people...
The "Root cause" of this planetary chaos and devastation is "White-people" with their single minded psychopathic greed and its resultant imperial-capitalism.
The problem is that because white people self-abrogated the leadership of the planet for themselves with their claim of "the white man's burden of civilizing everyone else" and since, there has never been anyone else to put excesses of white behavior in check and O'boi have the whites been rampantly excessive and have never had to be accountable for anything.
And ironically to the whites, they think everything they have done on the planet has been progress for everyone but look what they have done to the planet now, it's all phucked-up now!
Question is who will take accountability for it, who will clean it up and who will pay the price for it?
I wonder what white people see when they look in the mirror.
Man is not bad, . . it was when white people showed up, they dragged man down from grace.

not much, i can hear the voices just fine and the music is really relaxing if you get into it, i find it sad that people find this video bad only because of the audio, pls just watch more than 1min ...
@@graci200008 no one ever said that the video is bad, its just a bit sad that its that difficult to hear the narrator.
The music is way too loud compared to the dialogue to the point it made it unwatchable without text.
Even in this doumentation all the voices are silenced... Please keep the sound pollution to a minimum
Yeah whoever edited this definitely switched the audio layering around
Yeah, subtitles aren't optional. Who let that slide. It's annoying af
The narrator is barely audible over the deafening soundtrack. How was this ever passed and whoever said "Yeah that's fine" needs to be firmly talked to.
They need to re upload, It's too much
I came to say the exact same thing. I bet the person that edited the sound also did the music, and wanted to put their music to the forefront.
I feel so powerless in this war on our planet it’s being so abused
I had no issues hearing this st all. Great summary of all of the work we have to do to maintain this planet. It seems commoditization of EVERYTHING is the real problem here
That is a excellent comment.
What is the meaning of life for all the plants and creatures we share the earth with?
To endure, to persevere. Keep the chain of life going. Keep life living.
We are created by nature. We still have so much we can learn from nature. We must preserve what we can. Its a very important miracle that we too often take for granted. Work with nature, not against. We are one.
Nah, the permafrost is melting and just below are all the viruses and methane stored up over centuries. Methane is 20x as potent as CO2 and thus will cause a cascading effect when released causing the viruses such as the black death to return. Likewise, the water levels will rise, conventional crops like rice will no longer be able to grow due to temperature changes and society as we know it will self destruct.
Good riddance; I'm sick and tired of our self absorbed species. It's nice to see karma go full circle; I don't even care if it takes me with it so long as our species can stop wiping out every other species.
The Raven I know you are angry. I am angry as well. Humanity has done so much damage. And the dangers you speak of are very real. It might be the end of us. But don't give up just yet. Our planet needs all the friends it can get. Even if it looks hopeless... keep trying anyway, we must.

I've had the same cellphone for years and years at this point. 8 years or more with the same phone. My footprint on this earth is tiny. I only take what I need and nothing more. And I appreciate the small amount of things i have. We just need to get better at recycling old technology. We don't have to stay in the stone age. We can recycle better and rebuild the natural world. You don't have to pick one or the other. Greed is the real problem. Individuals who have waaay more then they could ever need. The 8 richest men on earth own as much wealth as the poorest half of the worlds population. Greed is hurting the world more than anything else.
beautifully done video, shame the musical overlays are so loud. Again, same message said over and over again. The only way to address these issues is if the collective changes their consumption habits - I don't see that happening. Shame really, but our species seems hell bent on destroying everything in the name of greed.
Eco fascist terrorism it is then.... Or human Extinction... Either suits me.
It's a scam.
I love the ticking clock element in the soundtrack to show we’re ticking closer to our destruction it’s cool but also sad 😞
Sad how much damage we've done to the world in such a small amount of time
agreed and we dont stop because money rules the world
A great filter in action. The exponential growth of our technology far outpaced our moral and societal growth.
We will destroy life on earth by 2070.
Not to mention all the damage we’ve done to ourselves, each other. We can’t even protect our own children, other than in selfish superficial ways.
Get a grip.
this video talks about some serious issues and all everyone can complain about is how the video isn't comfortable enough for them... perfect display of how people greed for their own comfort overcomes the reality of situations, even on a small scale
@edward h. Lead by example.
George Carlin hit the nail on the head (toward the end of his "entropy fan" bit) that next to nobody wants true preserving nature for its own sake. They just want clean surroundings, comfort... and imo the illusion of nature thriving, well enough at least, more than it actually thriving (case in point a lot of people hate predators, but they keep the grazers in check, so it's great for the whole ecosystem)
People lust after convenience and feelings/ feeling good, way more than realizing they are essentially nothing in the grand scheme of things- except for maybe part of the problem.
We can blame the industries for all they've done, bought out politicians, swindled the people etc... but it's still the overall popular view that this world can just be exploited to the end, &/or is full of everladting abundance (a constantly stocked Costco full of lobster, bottled water, exotic fish, etc., is no Real representation of the trends affecting this planet... and it's probably sad how most people would rather have those 'artificial abominations' than wild pristine wetlands/ coasts/ etc.) That mindset is just as toxic, if not worse, to the planet than the evil most destructive corporations
The music in the background is so loud and not balanced with the narration imo
Not just _your opinion_
I had to bail after about 90 seconds. It's a shame because this looked good.
@@edgarcayce2.02 It is really good. If you can watch it with captions I highly recommend it.
“And then came humans” worst thing this planet has ever seen sadly….
I am Jacks broken heart...
Sadly, I agree
All this destruction on nature is coming from the greediness of human kind.I won't take blame for it,personally. The people that have the big factories like the companies that produce plastic bottles or everything plastic, the companies that have the big fishing boats, they are to blame. The people that are making the big money should be respossible for the changes that are happening and the governments that are protecting them.
If you drink sody pop, then you're the problem. If you hate consumerism, then stop consuming. It's that simple.
@@Mephitinae it is not our fault. We consume ofc but we have to eat and drink dont you agree??So the companies that produce what we eat and drink should find other ways of storage, like glass and stop plastic production. They know and they still produce because they have huge profits and they just dont care about what is happening on the enviroment, also the governments do nothing cuz they are corrupted and benefit from them!Everything is bussines in this world for them also the pandemic is bussines!
It no longer matters whose fault it is. It only matters what we do about it.
To use that old ‘burning house’ analogy: you don’t argue about who started the fire until you’ve put it out. Nor do you argue about who should carry the most water: you just expect everyone to do all they can. The rich nations can do a lot more than poorer nations, and rich people can do a lot more than poorer people.
If you’re reading this, in global terms you’re probably rich.
It's a classic old case of supply and demand. Factories produce what there is a demand for, and as long as that demand doesn't change, the production also won't. It's easy to say the people with money are responsible, but that is way too simple. As long as humanity keeps demanding the products that destroy our environment, the supply will be there. As long as there is a demand for certain products, there is money to be made. If the demand shrinks, there will be a point the production of that product is not economically viable anymore and that's when production will shift.
These days there's a lot of alternatives, especially in the developed countries, which is an option you as a person can use to help shrink the demand for products that destroy our planet. We all have to do our part, that is the way out of this. In the end consumers have the power to speak with their wallet, we consumers are the ones who keep up the demand for certain damaging products, we can do something about this on an individual level.
A good coverage, but the background music is highly distracting!
Yeah the audio on this needs to be fixed badly lol
I blame the sound mixing on HUMANS
lol did this get sent out without a listen? Cause it sure does sound like it....
pro-tip: never let your music be louder than the person speaks, cause damn. At least subtitles. Sounds like a very bad mixtape.

The destruction of nature is one of the main driving forces for climate change. This is why I HATE the words Global Warming. It doesn't encompass the shear enormity of what's happening right now. This is also why I gave up on environmentalism. I have a post-grad in environmental sciences. Everything right now is breaking my heart and I can't take that. It's easier to give up than be destroyed physically and emotionally by the pain and rage.

For some years I've been hearing - ' Before it's too late'

The person talking at the beginning of this video is really hard to hear over the music. In many places it seems the music is louder than the person's voice. Even in other parts of the video the audio does not seem very clear with background audio as loud or louder than the person speaking.
This video would be a lot more informative if the music wasn't so damn loud.
The editor responsible for mixing should be fired how does this even get uploaded
I know all this, have known since right before my twenties. 11-12 years later political parties in Sweden are still not grasping the concept that the only green energy is no energy spent, that there is no green transportation and the complete lack of understanding that the status quo is inherently unsustainable is baffling.
The background music destroyed the whole video
If we can make sure people have enough money to buy food and housing, more will start to care about climate change.
Economic anxiety is what prevents many people from caring enough about climate change.
To many people
I can't imagine something more exasperating than speaking to boomers who believe that "climate change is a hoax." Then to follow up "and if it's not a hoax, i don't care because I'll be dead by the time it gets bad anyways." The struggle is real.
Nice derogatory generalization. The young today couldn't go a day without social media even if it meant saving the planet.
It would seem that there are people in ALL age segments who do not accept the reality before them...younger people have more energy to be "involved"

Judging from the Initial comments people had an issue with the audio but personally I found this to be a solid piece of informational nuance. I certainly consider a more practical approach to sustainability and farming because this documentary shows impact’s from the dominating doom methodology that’s in place. I hope the wild fire victims who have had to deal with them are well enough to rebuild their lives. Sometimes while woven through the heart of doom one can lose all solution to these anthropocene tendencies so thanks to Vice for illuminating the world.

We've heard your feedback: The audio issues in this film have now been fixed, as of Tuesday November 23rd.
There finally covering a serious issue and all people care about is the music. The lack of awareness people have today is the reason were in bad situations now.

The sound editing on this video is not that great. The music is too loud relative to the narration and commentary.

What's up with the sound mixing? I can barely hear the narrator over that loud music.
a large part of the problem is that pretty much anyone with the ability to make a difference has no interest beyond lining their pockets in the current fiscal year
The fact that everyone was worried about how the background music was loud just at a small portion of th e video, we're all stupid animals that do nothing but critique and feed our stupid desires
shush, sounds important
Can watch a film that looks bad but impossible to listen to a terrible soundtrack mix…. Fail.
It’s bizarre to see the Wick Woodland in a Vice video. That’s my little place I go to do guerrilla gardening. It used to be a drive-in cinema but was planted with trees about 20 years ago with apparently not much of a plan for biodiversity, and is almost totally lacking in flowering plants, insects, and small mammals. I’ve been working to bring in flowering plants (and I’d like to bring in edible things like berry bushes and apple trees but really it’s the insects I’m most concerned with). Before it was paved over it was a swamp so it’s vastly different to what it was even a few centuries ago. I’m pretty sure the decision to make it a woodland is because it’s nestled between some heavily travelled carriage ways; anything built there would have to deal with a lot of noise.
Echoing the others here, but I thought I had 2 tabs opened at first because the TICKING music outweighs the vocals by SO MUCH. Pull your dB down on the music and push it a few on the vocals.
Do you need an audio engineer? I’ll be happy to help because you have quality control issues, big time. Who mixed this? Cannot hear what the narrator is saying and they haven’t had a proper desser applied - the S and T sounds are out of control. Annoying.
Even if we try to fix this planet its not worth it if nuclear war starts
Wars are far more likely if there are major forces driving human suffering. Drought, famine, mega fires, heatwaves, floods, storms, and then the millions of refugees that follow.
In the modern era, the environment and war are intrinsically linked and cannot be separated.

There's one solution that would solve all of these problems **POPULATION CONTROL** ...These seem to be dirty words no one wants to talk about. If we will have to survive the next few years without catastrophic events, we will have to start working on a solution now and be aware of our daily choices that might impact the climate change especially the company that we support, the food we consumed and etc.
