WONDERFUL VOCALS...VERY POWERFUL VOICES...GREAT INSTRUMENTS...EXCELLENT ORCHASTRA....BRINGS BACK FOND MEMORIES OF THE GOOD OL DAYS...WHEN LIFE WAS MUCH EASIER...
I was born in 69 amd my cousin was a sophomore in 67. She had all those singles from 1967 including this song. I always hear that 67 was the best year in pop and soul music amd I totally agree...those sings are all groovey. But to see the top 10 and all these were hits? Amazing!
ONE OF MY FAVORITES FROM AN ERA THAT CONSTANTLY CHURNED OUT WONDERFULLY SIMPLE AND MELODIOUS GEMS----WHAT A GREAT TIME....NO--NOT PERFECT, BUT A GREAT TIME TO GROW UP, AT LEAST FOR ME.
Flower Power to you Kenn! Strong drum track. I played along with my tambourine while driving and listening to this song. .Love this song from 1967. Great job! Thank you.
I might like your production end of this post as much as any in the fabulous collection that you've shared with us over the years. A perfect example of "The Atlanta Mafia", this time taking their act to the capital of Tennessee in a rare mobile operation. Brother Bill Lowery, Joe South, Ray Stevens, Buddy Buie....they had all come forth from the ashes of NRC (National Recording Corporation) in The Peach City to make Atlanta a "Happenin' Place" in the 1960s. Opening guitar bass lines provided by 1970 Grammy Award WinnerJoe South, while the orchestra arrangement and keyboards are provided by 1971 & '76 Grammy Award winner Ray Stevens. "Reach Out Of The Darkness" was recorded in Nashville and mastered at the Atlanta Studio.
This brings back good memories of my older sister playing all her records on a old record player one room over from mine, thanks for playing this loved it👍😊...
Absolutely! I just heard it on the radio and I had to come here so I could post it on my Facebook page… Mostly so I wouldn’t forget it… I had forgotten how great this bass part is… Actually, the whole song is great
1967, right in the middle of the Vietnam War. A friend of mine, his dad was in Vietnam. He was so scared that his dad was not to make it home. But, he did.✌
Ah HA! I'm the 1st responder! Thanks for you great "enhancements" to this one! I fondly remember buying the mono 45 RPM back in the day. [Sheesh! That's 53 years ago!]. Excellent job!! It sure beats the original bi-polar stereo mix by a long-shot! BRAVO!
WOW !! SO much better -- you can actually UNDERSTAND the lyrics! You pulled SO MUCH out of the muddy midrange and the lopped-off highs! I do kinda miss that really FAT bass line on the 45, though :-)
One of my all time favorites, but most of the recordings of this great song on the internet including this one always mute the violins during the outro which really add more intensity to the vocals.
It's great! May I ask precisely what enhancements you employed? For example, are there new instrumentation backing tracks and/or did you simply enhance the original from 1967? Seems the harmonies of Jim and Cathy are a bit clearer; maybe brighter. Also the guitar... Love your interpretation and work! Thank you!
The title of this video is “Reach Out of the Darkness . . ..” Yet, the female singer is clearly saying “Reach Out in the Darkness” and one of the screen photos (Collectables) depicts the 45 RPM record which shows the title of the song as “Reach Out in the Darkness.” Some of the other screen images (e.g., Verve record label and album cover) have "Reach Out of the Darkness." Why the difference?
I noticed something interesting while both listening to the song and watching the video. They sing the chorus "Reach out IN the darkness," but on most of the record labels it was written as "Reach Out OF the Darkness." Wonder which one is the official title of the song? Or if maybe I'm mishearing "of" as "in?" Either way, it's an awesome song! I've always loved it! ☮
The title never appears as such in the recording, though the nine mentions of “Reach Out IN the Darkness” in the lyrics come close. The song is notable for its repeated opening line, "I think it's so groovy now that people are finally getting together."
I agree! I was going to print the Title "Reach Out IN The Darkness" until I saw the title on the record and I thought: "That don't match the words"! I don't like when I print the wrong title of the song and I hear about it later from the fans but I think the record label made a mistake on this one. Kenn
One of my favorite hippie anthems! So severely underplayed on oldies radio.
20 years old and this song was on the radio on my way to the hospital to. have my baby. April 26, 1968.

Oldie Goldies are my favorite types of music. I was finishing high school, when this one hit wonder song, came out.
A classic, from the past.
I haven't heard that in a really long time. Thanks for the memories

1967, remember it well at 12 yrs old, getting ready to start Junior High School. I loved listening to rock n roll.
USMC 73-77 I remember it also and i was 13,only i had a older sister who played this over and over again on her old record player👍😆...

Ray Stevens, Joe South and Jim Post. Some huge talent getting this done. Great sound from Kenn.
Funny, all this time they were singing "reach out in the darkness", I thought they were singing "we got a new gardener".
I cannot unhear that now. Hilarious.
😂😂😂!
Especially for those who had s few drinks and played it on old records players!
Dang it I'll never hear this song the same now 😪 😆
"Hold me closer, Tony Danza".
One Very Tru Golden Oldie That REALLY Brings Back A Lot Of Great Times In A Much Different Era , Thanks For Posting This Cool Song Kenn , I Love It !
It's so fantastically naive, so intensely amateurish yet there it is on the radio. that I love it. Pure '60s.
Brings back memories of my youth! 😊
Flower Power to you Kenn! Strong drum track. I played along with my tambourine while driving and listening to this song. .Love this song from 1967. Great job! Thank you.
when I listen to this it reminds me of The Hemisfair of 1968 in San Antonio TX.

I wonder if this is the same Atlanta studio that Rick Beato talks about constantly?
RIP Jim Post

Might try to figure this out, but in listening closely I can hear the nuance. This could become an obsession, gotta' keep that in mind!
I have looked and looked for who the bassist is... unfindable!
@@markmorris8532 Either Ray Stevens or Joe South, two session legends who worked on the recording in Nashville.
I'd always wanted to "tweak" my favorite recordings from the 60's and 70's in this way. Thank you!!!!!
I think it’s so groovy now.
The bass riff is epic helping make this song one of my all time favorite songs. Great drums too. I did not know Joe South was a producer.
Omg.. forgot about this song.. great song!!! Tysm ❤️💕💞

Good memories!
Was 15 when this came out….and remember thinking that they were saying “freak out in the darkness.” 🤪
Catchy song, for sure.
I sang this at my 2nd grade talent show! I dressed up as a hippie and had black lights and strobe lights.
It almost sounds like B-52 Fred Schneider and Kate Pierson singing.
A Hippie song ! With meaning;
WOW !! SO much better -- you can actually UNDERSTAND the lyrics! You pulled SO MUCH out of the muddy midrange and the lopped-off highs! I do kinda miss that really FAT bass line on the 45, though :-)
Sounds great! Walt in Miami
They used this song on Mad Men , " Man with a plan " season 6.

oh Man that's beautiful. as always.
I love how you brought up the treble. I always felt it was too muffled.
I Didn't Think It Was Possible, Kenn But You Did It... You Improved On Perfection... Well Done, My Friend.:))
You can hear the "Freak out in the darkness" lyrics much clearer in this version.
Love. Song

Sounds great! But aren't they singing "Reach out IN the Darkness"? Which also makes sense. Jus sayin' !
Somebody needs to use this song in a bar fight scene from a movie about the 1960's. Similar to Forrest Gump.
