Everything what happened in the video actually happened to Yoongi in real life.
Yoongi is brilliant! This is the end of the trilogy and he had it all planned out for years!! The scar is his pain and we see it slowly heal in the videos. He is eating almonds because the amygdala is shaped like an almond. His crash is how he severely injured his shoulder and he kept the injury secret for years. He was performing in a great deal of pain for most of his time as an idol. His surgery has corrected all of that. He was also suicidal at one point in his life and battled depression. The fact that he opens up all this pain and shares it with us is just amazing. So, it is sad but also full of hope. He came through it all and is the person he is today because of it. It is a message to all of us too. We all have an amygdala and have the capability to overcome and survive trauma. I love Yoongi so much for all the he gives to us!
Hello. I love everything you said but yoongi was never suicidal. That's a rumor that stemed from him sharing with us about his depression on multiple occasions. People equate the two but they don't always go hand and hand.

Suicidal tendencies vs. Suicidal ideation. There is a difference. They are not the same. Having thoughts while in a depressed state, is still diagnosed depression. If he acted on those thoughts and planned to do those things then that changes the diagnosis. Sorry. I'm done ranting.

Suga once said that he hated it when people knew things about his private life. This song really shows that. I can't even imagine the pain he must have felt growing up knowing that his mother's health issues started the year he was born. I get why Augst D is a trilogy and why he was so angry in the past when relatives said he would ruin his family doing music. He has such a burden already but music was all he loved to do so he was under so much torment. He was made to feel like he would not be able to take care of his parents as time went along. " in my ears I could hear the sound of my mother's life ticking away" Damn a tear slipped down. Part of his loneliness was that he could tell anyone about his mother and father's health issues in a prison he built for himself. I am so glad he has music and songwriting to take it all in and let it all go. Snooze is my favourite song that made me cry first but this song....
I finally get who agust D is, he is someone that allows Suga and Yoongi to be is truest and rawest self. Agust D has fulfilled the mission, it is done.
Yes he is a very private person and likes his privacy, he made this song to basically release all these things and move forward to the future. This is also his most favorite out of his album.
the scar represents "self inflect harm"...the accident in the mv is what happen to suga in the past thats how he hurt his shoulder...pretty much everything in the song and everything in the mv happen to him in the past...he really open up to us on this song. In the mv i want to say the other him(agustd) is trapped inside of his brain and thats why he was in that small dark room in the mv and couldnt get out...suga was mentally battling with himself in his mind. I went to see suga in chicago and when he performed you can tell how this song affects him and see and hear the emotion in this song..he really open to us in this song.
Hello. You share a interesting point of view but its a rumor. He never "self harmed." The accident that happened was his shoulder as a delivery person. He was hit by a car and buried that physical/emotional scars for years. Which wasn't his fault. Going through that on top of everything else with his mom and dad (medically speaking). The pill popping was for the pain. Depression and his shoulder. Ps. That fact he kept these secrets to provide for his family and not worry anyone is so admirable.
@@amiluvmochi i never said he physically self harmed himself...there are two sides of self harmed physical or mental..my opinion is mental self harmed..suga has battle depression and etc and he has been open about that...even in your brain or your mind you can have a mental scar of what you went through in life and etc..also suga has said many times in interviews and videos that any of the mvs of his or from bts everyone will have each of their opinions and all the opinions can be right...all of us have different views of their songs and music videos.
@@amiluvmochi also i read the story of what suga said about the accident and everything else that has happen..like i said self harmed can also be mental because of tragedies in life and etc that will haunt you for a long time and that can lead up to a mental scar(you cant see that scar but its always there) in your brain. suga has always been open up with his depression and etc to us and i am glad he does that.
I personally think whether he ever did self harm, or not, maybe he was still trying to share that type of sentiment with the audience either way.
Or maybe not, only he truly knows.
But remember this isn't the first time that physical self harm has appeared in his songs.

But with having said all that, and whether or not it is true, when referring to the physical self harm,
from looking at what is just in the video it seems like that part, more specifically, with the razor, that it could definitely be seen as a type of representation of, or a way of relating too, self harm, physically speaking. I hope I described all of that alright.
And again whether Suga self harmed or not, that is his personal business to share or not to share.
And lastly, I just wanted to say that I do understand what Nola is saying about self harm mentally. And also agree with that point of view as well.
There is a behind the scenes where he explains it all. The amygdala is primarily traumatic memories. It creates fear around them to protect you in the future . We all have damaged parts locked away. Really powerful. He was trying to acknowledge and save that self, to process it and get better. Remember when he was missing from performances? He had shoulder surgery for the accident that he hid for a long time. I love how he makes you feel for him, and yourself at the same time. Ty❤

SUGA was diagnosed with OCD and depression and he did experience chronic pain from his shoulder injury. The pills you see him taking in the MV are in prescription bottles (this is easier to see in the episode of the making of the mv).
Up! It is very important for people to understand that those were prescription medications not other stuff!
He still is in pain in his shoulder to this day, probably always will, he needs to get injections and yes they are prescription medication and not anything else.
Plus his early financial struggles, anxiety attacks, a ruptured appendix, and a decade of shoulder pain while performing perfectly on stage. 😥
Meanwhile also getting his university degree while singing, dancing, writing and producing.
And all the hate they keep getting for no reason.
Yet he is protective and nurturing of the other members.
So grateful for all the moments the boys show him affection and make him smile.
So my interpretation of the past him (one that got hit) trying to save present him (in the dark room) is that it represents how much he wants to change the outcome of his accident. He wants to completely free his Agust D persona from the pain and not start the road down the depression. However as you could see, he couldn't free himself. Because whats happened has happened and he can never change it; the dark room itself can even be symbolic of depression and the difficulty of trying to get out because you're just constantly in pain, remembering all the bad memories, and the dark shadows continue to swallow you whole (in this case the rain thst starts and doesnt seem to stop at all which means that room will slowly fill up and he will start drowning)
The accident that caused Suga's shoulder injury, his mother's heart surgery, and the news about his father's liver cancer during work pretty much created the Agust D persona which has always been represented by the scar. suga has recently stated in an interview that Agust D was made out of the anger and pain of his past. However he has also said that as he gets older, the less angry he becomes.
If you noticed while watching Amygdala, Daechwita, and Haegeum in this order, the scar has healed over time. Suga even implied that it may be a while before we see Agust D again. Though even if the scar heals, he will still have it as he can never fully get rid of it. He pretty much made peace with his past and the scars during the production of D-Day, and has now been moving forward and feeling more relaxed and freeing
The car accident happened to him during his debut years when he was working as a delivery driver. He got a shoulder injury about which he didn’t tell to anyone cause was afraid he would not stay in the group because of that. He got surgery in 2020 if I’m right. Everything he was telling in the song happened to him “all his traumas, suicidal thoughts, everything”. Amygdala MV helps you to understand that his scar was self made. On the behind scenes he said that it’s up to us to decide wether the scars stay as scars or not. There can be different approaches of what’s the scar for but most probably the scar is made to make another person out of him in order to get rid of all those traumas and memories. Sometimes we choose to create a character for us to cope with trauma or loss in order to not struggle more. That’s why in the song he says “I don’t know your name”. He has another song where he said “Min Yoongi is dead. I killed him”. In Daechwita the scar is a little bit healed and in Haegeum he is finally healed completely and he killed his created other self with the scar. About the rain. It can represent again something else but I know that it was rainy during his motorbike accident day. That his other self who’s running to the door and trying to open it, it’s himself trying to save himself but at the end he couldn’t. If you watch carefully, he was eating almonds in the MV. Almond has the same shape as amygdala in our brain. There is a book called “Almond” about a guy who has a small amygdala and his mum tells him to eat almond so it will make his amygdala bigger and help him about his emotions. That’s why Yoongi was eating them in the MV thinking it would help make his amygdala work and save him from all his traumas and bad memories that he has never asked for. He has read that book.
In the BTS episode for the making of the music video, he describes this song as showing his healing from his past trauma. All of the events in the song actually occurred. He has referenced the car crash that caused his shoulder injury in previous songs such as The Last and Born Singer. He also said that he pushed for the scene when the scar is created because he wanted a scene that shows we create our own scars. Also, if you watch carefully, you can see that the scar is healing, and at the end he still has the scar but it is much smaller. In one of their concert tour documentaries, SUGA reveals to the members over dinner that he lied about his shoulder injury and said that the injury occurred when he fell down the stairs, because he was afraid he would be cut from the team before their debut. This is a visual case study in depression.
Not all scars are visible. A lot of times those going thru depression will have internal scars. Depression also never goes away but comes in cycles. Even Yoongi has said that it may cycle back but he understands now how to help himself. Getting out of depression is different for everyone, the same 'trick' will not work for everyone. I know what mine is but what works for me does not work for my grandchild, they have their own trick now.
Yoongi said he wanted to show that our scars are self-inflicted with the cut/scar on his face. The accident was much worse than the one depicted in the video. It happened almost 10 years ago when the members were so poor Yoongi decided to be a delivery boy. Yoongi said when he opened his eyes the car's tires were inches from his face. Someone below explained the accident and how he kept it a secret from EVERYONE, including the members. (He told them he fell down the stairs.) You pronounced amygdala correctly...it's one of those Greek words. Yoongi played the guitar. This is my favorite song on the album. Thanks for the reaction. 💜👀
Agustd was created to dissociate those bad memories and his anger from himself. If you notice his wound keeps healing throughout amygdala, daechwita & haegum.

To me even though this is officially a trilogy, without including "The Last" and frankly the entire Agust D album it's missing some context. The Amygdala video is so closely tied to The Last. In Daechwita and Haegeum both the Boss Agust D who takes down the younger, angrier blonde Mad King Agust D and in Haegeum, who I am guessing is Suga both try and remove Agust D, which can never happen because he's part of his whole. Only here in Amygdala where the young Min Yoongi (the one Agust D claims to have "removed") is the only one who tries to save and help Agust D not destroy him.
I suppose the way I interpret it is this: Suga went through some really hard things, and coping/not coping with them (the best way he tried wasn't possible or failed, then he tried the second best way, then the third, etc.) led to the creation of this "monster" character that he talks about in several songs and depicts as a mad king/mob boss in his recent MVs. He poured all his unresolved emotions into this monstrous ambition that ate him alive. And now that he's able to begin to unpack and resolve things within himself, he has to kill that part of him to find peace and become his true self again.

The accident is happened when he is a trainee in 2012, he never told the real story to members and the company because he afraid that they will kicked him out of BTS. He suffered shoulder pain since 2012 to 2020 with all that heavy choreos and gives up and get shoulder surgery at November 2020
I think it was raining the day of the accident when the car hit him. He talks about he looked and the cars wheel was near his eye. He took pain killers and had injection in the shoulder to help with the pain. Also I think he was medication due to his Depression, Anxiety, and OCD problems. in the past

Same person. The crash was how he hurt his shoulder, but he had to lie, as it was against polices for him to work. He told Big Hit he fell down stairs. He also had problems with pain pills making him sick, but he was in so much from his shoulder, all the time. He finally told the truth, and had surgery he should have had several yrs earlier. He took the job because Big Hit was in financial trouble and Suga wanted to do what he could to help. He bought food for the guys.
I think that he wants to say that any scar (trauma) we have was self inflicted. I mean, all depends on the way we react to the bad things that happen in our life.
The amygdala holds the bad memories that are too painful to bear. So, in this song he's explaining his healing process, forcing him to remain and face those memories.
The Amgydala music video is related to Daechwita and Haegum but as the origin story or prequel. This is how “Agust D” got the scar. It is self-inflicted by his unhealed trauma. Agust D is Suga/Yoongi’s alter ego. The personification of all the built up anger, pain and trauma he’s experienced throughout his life. In the previous two videos you see the scar in different stages of healing whereas this video the scar is fresh.
Another note, Yoongi alluded in the song “The Last” that he attempted or had unaliving ideation. The pill reference may or may not allude to an attempt HOWEVER, because of his car accident he said that he was put on pain meds for years. He has never mentioned to my knowledge that he was prescribed anti depressants or anti anxiety medication.
Another observation is that I believe this song was inspired by the book “Almond” that Namjoon and Yoongi both read. It’s about a young boy with a condition called Alexithymia which is attributed to the lack of development of the amygdala in the brain, responsible for emotional regulation. In the book the boys mother feeds him almonds because she believed it would heal him. If you watch the video again, you’ll see the pills change from medication to almonds.
If you listen to The Last again and watch the BTS episode of the making of the MV, it will help you understand the MV.
The dark room he can't get out from is depression
Yoongi is a master storyteller.... a fellow army best explained the trilogy as -
Daechwita... ridding himself of the need to prove his worth to others
Haegum... ridding himself of the confines of modern society
Amygdala... he investigates the inner demons and trauma that started his confinement in the first place.
This is the most brilliant and beautiful depiction of mental illness I’ve ever seen.
So much packed into 3 minutes. I’m just locked in into the emotions behind this song. The “live” version from the concerts, you guys should catch it and maybe react to it. I see the connection as the following: Suga in the black room being locked in his brain/amygdala, while all the other Suga's (Daechwita mad king, thug-from-daechwita-turned-mafia boss-in-haegeum, delivery boy suga) are all different parts of Suga's psyche or memories. He's being forced to relive the negative memories or aspects of his life and in an effort to save himself from making mistakes and try to get out of his memory "loop", he has the different parts sent out to kill the worst parts of himself.
The scar is fresh in amygala, he causes it to himself after realizing he's stuck in a memory loop of trauma, then the scar shows up in the daechwita characters as those are early career Yoongi being angry/angsty. Then he kills the mad king off (representing moving on from past anger), and then unfortunately repeats some mistakes to become mafia boss Yoongi in Haegeum with power/money obsession/slave to society. He kills that part off to hopefully become the better version of himself now (with no self-caused scar). Except, he's still trapped with his worst memories/trauma.
Finally the loop tries to get broken when pre-debut-delivery-driver-Yoongi recognizes what's happening (think like breaking the 4th wall) and he runs to the amygdala room to try and break Yoongi out, as well as avoiding the car accident that ruined his shoulder and took over a large portion of his life. Though, we know we can't change the past, and he is unsuccessful in opening the room. Suga is left in his amygdala to deal with his trauma alone and get through it himself.
I love your take on this ( probably cause it’s the same interp. as mine) except I would add that it’s through his music ( & sharing it w/ us) he’s been able to heal himself & sort out & start to deal w/ past memories & finally break that trauma loop .
Which is why he says this might be Agust D’s last major contribution - because he’s finally healing & being liberated ( d-day) from that loop of anger & pain.

Yoongi used to deliver food even the very early days of BTS. He actually had an accident on the scooter which injured his shoulder. That's something he wouldn't tell big hit about for fear not being a part of the group. He eventually had to have surgery for it.

Suddenly - Silently- By them showing up...........gave their 'Approval'. aka.....Jimmin saw him on stage and RAN then hugged the hell out of Suga..............He 'alone' recognized what Suga was going through.

Definitely watch the behind! Go back to his song The Last regarding unaliving. Also, pills…social anxiety, shoulder pain from the bike accident, ocd. But pills have side-effects and not taking them has side-effects .another reason to question his choices. The amygdala stores your memories to help you make decisions. Fight or flight, etc.. so, even though part of you wants to erase those memories/trauma, you need to remember so that you can make good choices. Best choice, second best choice, third best choice.

Yes those are the things that he as a person has been going through. It's all real to him his life story. The accident happened that he keep secret was due to him having a part time delivery job to try to pay for his schooling fee's while as trainee. He was afraid to tell anyone at the company the truth in case they didn't let him debut. His shoulder didn't heal properly and for years he was in pain it just got worse and worse til he couldn't even hold him mic in that hand. In the end he told the company about the whole thing and they said he should have told them and they would have paid his school fees. He had the operation on his shoulder finally when covid came. He says it was his way of having some control of his life in covid. His mother's heart operation worked and his father beat the cancer. These are just some of the truma's in his life.
Predebut he was a delivery boy. The accident with his scooter really happened and his shoulder was messed up. He fought the constant pain for 8 years by getting regular injections. Finally, he could no longer lift his arm when dancing. He had surgery on it in 2020.
Basically, his amygdala created AgustD to absorb his traumas and fears.

That accident was real, he was still a Trainee. He broke his sholder (remember in MMA 2020 the guys legt Suga space empty on them performance) he hide it from the company afraid he will be kicked out. He endured a lot of pain as he was dancing as a Trainee with a broken sholder. That's why pain killers are so present on the video. Just recently he got a risky, but succesful shoulder surgery.
Overall he developed a deep depression as a result of so many hardships, he was even unable to perform in one of the first concerts because he also faced OCD. You can also see this concert issue on his solo-tour, he done pre-recorded-videos telling the story. He passed out on the toilets as a result of a panic attack.
The scar is a metaphorical way of showing how we self-inflict pain to ourselves when the situation is bad enough, as we come out of that situation we should just move forward and carry on with life rather than longing on the past, no mater how hard it was. Genius Min Yoongi.
This is the most gut-wrenching MV I have ever seen. To endure all this tragedy and pain, and then to turn it into art and give it to the world - I am awed by his courage. Seeing him sing this live in Oakland Arena was spellbinding. He ended the song by falling to the ground and being carried off by the backup dancers. Just wow.

He and Namjoon are both seen reading the novel Almond during In The SOOP, in which the protagonist has an underdeveloped amygdala. The 16 yr old's Mother feeds him almonds in a misguided attempt to develop the amygdala (since its Almond-Shaped).
The Amygdala is the almond shaped part it the brain that deals with trumours, fear, flight and fight response.

I think I may be reaching a little too hard, but the reason that I find this video fascinating and this is my favorite song from his album it's because these are actually all events that Yoongi had to go through. Exactly ,I knew about it since I loved him for over 10 years and going now and he has always been open about his mental health , and his accident as well as everything else. Still to this day his shoulder bothers him , he needs to get injections for it each time he tours and every show he did, he has explained that in one of his weverse lives

They are the same person! It’s about his life and all the suffering he went through. It’s the birth of AgustD…AgustD is the voice of his pain and anger. He got into an accident while working his delivery job and trying to have money to eat when Bts was being made.
He is telling us the story of his life and what all happened to him, what was going on that no one else knew about and how many years he suffered in silence because he was afraid of losing everything. This is how Agust D came to be. He tried to break free but couldn't. It's still a part of him so he has to just accept it and go on with life. He lived with shoulder pain for so many years because he knew if he said anything he would get cut from BTS so he kept his mouth shut until he knew there was no way in hell he was going to lose anything. I thank Suga for trusting us with this. Letting people in is not easy.

I think the pronunciation of 'amygdala' was on purpose. Try singing that with the normal pronunciation and it just doesn't work. BTS has made use of this practice in other songs as well.

They’re his memories and the scar came about because of them. This video is kind of like explaining the birth of Agust D character, all that trauma created him. That accident was also true, he lived with the pains never told the company fear of being out of the group, he just had surgery for it finally a couple years ago. Poor thing silently suffering all those years.
Here he creates the cut, Daechwita has still a red scar, by Haegum the scar is starting to heal. And the character last standing no longer had the scar. So it’s not the wrapping up of the characters like you thought you’d see but more like the prequel.
