I'll save the actual sentimental comment for the full video, but for right now. I managed to get sick (AGAIN BTW) the day I finished this video that is both amazing and awful luck lmao
the only thing i remember from the end's monologue is "you're like a gnat flying around me" and *"I AM INFINITE"* really paying attention to the important lore bits
Man this series was definitely a BLAST! I really admire your editing efforts too! Honestly, I think the mini bosses and Cyberspaces were the highlight in Ouranos. Caterpillar was such a pain to deal with, died like 5 times 😢
Rhea Island is surprisingly excellent in terms of atmosphere in my opinion. It felt like a superb "calm before the storm." The fact that it's located on the first island again, the music being as good as it is, and the fact that it was very uniquely focused on a single straightforward task rather than being open like the rest of the zones made it feel like it was really building up to the climactic finale of the game. It made me really excited for the 5th island, because Rhea gave me the impression that we were building up to a really cool and interesting finale. But of course, instead, the last island was just more grassy plains that didn't offer anything different from any of the other islands. Very disappointing, but I still do think Rhea is cool for what it is. One of the biggest highlights in the game for me.
Speaking of wyvern boss. Kishimoto told that they were trying to make Knight boss roam around the island like wyvern and that's why knight has wheels. But they later scrapped it because it will be repetitive just after fighting with wyvern like that.
Dude the poor mech would go flying into the ocean at the lightest bump, and we all know how chaos is. Besides, it just gives me more opportunity to say Wyvern is peak.
also on Rhea island, the homing shot sucks blue spikey spinballs, every time i instinctivly air boost i have to hit homing attack- but oh wait- homing shot, now im falling
This was a fun review series to watch. Rhea Island is one of my favorite moments from this game since the atmosphere feels so climactic with the amazing music and each tower revealing more about what happened to the Ancients and how they were forced to seal The End into Cyber Space to stop it from wiping them out completely and destroying the Earth. Plus when Sage asks Sonic why he keeps going despite suffering from the cyber corruption, he just smiles and keeps going. That cutscene had more character than the entirety of Forces. That’s the Sonic I know and grew up with. I feel like what could’ve made Ouranos Island better is if the atmosphere and music felt like Rhea. Make the skybox either filled with dark clouds or a red sky, and more somber music to symbolize that The End is going to strike and you’re on borrowed time to try and stop it. Honestly, The End isn’t a bad villain since it’s concept of being based on the end of everything or death is honestly pretty original. Plus, it’s never really known if Super Sonic and Sage were able to truly defeat it. Maybe it’ll reappear in a future title and get more fleshed out. While the ending is definitely the weaker part of the game, the game overall is still really great in my opinion. It’s glitchy and unpolished, but I rather take that over a boring, half hearted game like Forces. Plus the recent DLC added some huge quality of life improvements that helps make the game much more re-playable. While Sonic Unleashed is still my favorite Sonic game of all time, Frontiers is definitely in my top 10.
Just binged your frontiers series review (Uploading a video with all of the parts combined into one would be GREAT) The editing was GREAT all through out. Literally felt like I was watching videos made by a big RUclipsr. I can see you had so much fun with the jokes and editing through the whole thing. I liked hearing your different ideas for different parts of the game, I'm really glad you pointed some of the flaws out, and the whole ride felt like an honest review. Great job man!
Thank you so much! Spent a ton of time on this and reading this really does feel awesome. I’m hyped to do more with this editing style and see what I can improve. And yes in either a day or 2, a compiled version will be uploaded! Thanks man!
Oh boy oh boy,I can’t wait for everyone to anticipate a sonic frontiers 2,but then sonic team says ”f**k you” and turns sonic into a western cowboy.(that’d be pretty funny ngl)
Great video! A lot of the cyberspace designs are straight up ports from earlier games. The level you said looks like an SA2 level, is in fact from SA2, and others like 4-1 are also from SA2.
@@oreogod1985 4-1 is Metal Harbor. While 4-3 does borrow elements from Green Forest, that level is original. However, even in the game, Sonic mentions a lot of the cyberspace he travels through are familiar to him. Indeed, the levels have similar or identical stage layouts to previous games (Unleashed, Generations, and Adventure 2). If you're curious, there are lists documenting which level layouts are borrowed from which games/stages
despite the ending this game was super fun and memorable, probably one of the most memorable sonic games to me, also amazing recaps of the game, the editing and everything is amazing
Great review as always. The ending may be very unfortunate and rushed, but Ouranos island has without a doubt my favorite island theme in the whole game. The choir is so beautiful that I was pissed that the game changed to the "Theme of Starfall Islands" after you collect most of the Chaos Emeralds. I really wanted to hear more of Ouranos Island's theme.
While yeah, ouranos has no story unique things, I think this is the second best island in terms of gameplay. I also find the theme of the end is in the beginning kinda working if you ignore rhea island. Hope supreme becomes dope in the dlc updatez
There were so many jokes that caught me off guard and I ended up laughing way more than I thought I would (which was already quite a lot), Great video!
It's ironic that I found you through Mario Strikers Battle League, a game that was such a massive let down to many fans me included. But without it, I would have never found your channel. Weird how life works, a massive failure could lead to something great at the end, just like this game. the Sonic movies are why I became an official fan of this franchise, even more than Mario (but that's mainly Nintendo's fault), I love this rodent so much that I listened to the soundtracks, watch gameplay of games I can't get, and even think 06 is actually S tier of a game, while both 06 and Frontiers were both degraded from management, they still had passion put into it. And that's one thing I wish Mario would do again
Thanks for sticking with the channel! And yes I agree, strikers really deserved to have a lot of effort put into it but we just didn’t get that. Not even close
Thank you so much for making this series. I enjoyed every second of it. You're amazing and underrated. So happy this channel was successful after that last one got fucked by youtube
Lol question though since you were the only one to point that part out, but did you find that part cringey in any way? Just wondering for future videos and such!
Rhea island isn’t very unique but it does make you feel like a hero. Climbing large towers to stop a big bad with dramatic music behind it. It’s disappointing but it gets the job done.
People seem to forget that Kronos, Rhea and Ouranos were supposed to the the same island at the beginning, but because *rushed things, your typical Sonic Team/Sega* they are now separated islands
the reason 4-1 is so good is because it's just the exact level design of metal harbor from sa2. 4-3 is just green forest from sa2. this game reuses level design from previous entries a lot. i don't personally mind it much, but i think there's more copied stages than original ones
Yeah lots of reuse level design, at least that means all the level design is good by default I wish it was original, 4-4 was a really well designed stage, wish we had more of it
I honestly don't understand why developers feel the need to rush or crunch games. Get the game mostly finished and then have the marketing team do their thing. It's worked out with Zelda.
Most of the time it's not the developers' fault, they unfortunately have to answer to higher-ups who want a game done in a timely manner no matter what. Series dev veteran Takashi Iizuka even said that he bargained with SEGA just to fight for an extra year of development time on this game, and a 2021 release was already taking a little too long in SEGA's eyes.
gotta agree it had flaws but damn i adore this game hope you're enjoying the DLC updates! also funny that ouranos only had 3 remake stages, 4-1 is metal harbor, 4-6 is classic gens chemical plant and 4-9 is city escape's skateboard section
@@carb0xyde887 you sure? i watched 4-9 and city escape's boarding section back to back and the roads curves have the same layout some ramps are placed in the exact same way too and the end ramp seems to be like the section where you knock over the trolley the only original part i could tell was the middle platforming section
This has been such a great series!! I never even noticed Kronos and Rhea were on the same island until I was exploring it while hunting for music tracks. Speaking of, will you do a video on the DLC as well?
I loved Sonic Frontiers, but the ending left a lot to be desired story wise as well as gameplay too. I hope with the 3rd update, Sonic Team will be able to being into fruition a more satisfying true ending. The new story dlc has potential and I can’t wait to dive back into SF for new content. If they nail the ending after all these updates, I’ll be so happy 😊 In the meantime, looking forward to update 2 which seems to expand more on the overall gameplay in Sonic Frontiers.
One main issue I have with this game as a whole is how slow sonic is without the boost essentially making you hold ZR/R2/RT the whole game to feel fast at least sonic forces he was fast without the boost I feel like this is my least favorite part of the whole game
I also think after awhile of increasing your speed and adjusting to it, his regular pace seems even slower. I think when I first started sonics basic speed hadn't seemed that slow to me compared to later on.
0:25 Yesterday, I have finally defeated The End. Thank god I have defeated him. Like seriously, couldn’t we get the engineering of this boss just like the engineering of Time Eater? It was way easier in Sonic Generations!
Tbh the ending felt like BOTWS ending. In terms of boss fight. Like it's just the beginning. It felt like it played itself for a sequel almost like a "part one" of what's to come. That's why I'm not mad with it or disappointed seeing as what the end credits have already alluded to.
ok about the "The End" fight. I HATE how it actually functions and i dont mean the ikarouga gameplay. thats fine but the fac tthat the boss seems to have actual hp gates that are tied to its monologue. because its a GIANT hitbox you can hit this thing the entire time. so instead of making a proper shoot'em up boss they decided to tome gate this fight. and its really dumb. especially if you dont understand the final qte, get clapped, and have to do it all again. and as a side note, since this is the hacking controls, all of sonics upgrades mean nothing here. which feels wierd for the final boss. oh did i mention you have to play on hard to actually fight this thing?
5:49 “Explore” LOL. It’s an empty line you run through for 20 seconds. 4-2 is pretty Mid, it looks cool but all the Pathways are the Same Empty lines you run through. All the “Platforming” can be airboosted over and the other option is always just a lame Homing attack Chain. 4-3 is the Best Cyberspace level, there are plenty of options for Skilled Players to take shortcuts using Sonic’s moveset and it’s got some of the best music of the game. Shame it was so short.
I honestly think that sonic frontiers kinda saved the sonic franchises ! SEGA seems to finally understand that if you give sonic team time and money , they can make a good game! Also , apparently the final boss might be changed in the last update , so that's cool! Anyway , great video!
Just saying if Frontiers didnt get that adventure era itch you were looking for try Spark the Electric Jester 2+3 made by one man and he nailed it with gameplay level design music and mechanics. One of the best 3d platformers Ive ever played. The first one is amazing too but its more of a 2d kirby like and not like 3d sonic adventure game.
I liked frontiers, but it’s a shame that it was yet another sonic team rush job. Like they were honestly so close, the overall game was a huge step in the right direction, but it just simply is not finished and I can’t defend that. We waited 5 years for it, and the previous game was goddamn Forces; which also was following a 4 year wait from Lost World. Fans of this franchise deserved more. To me the easiest way to fix this would’ve just been to cut the game down to the first 3 islands, use the extra dev time to give Rhea its own theme, and go all in on the concept of it being a linear platforming gauntlet instead of having this empty giant overworld. A more exciting final boss and more cyberspace themes would’ve been nice too, although they’d need more dev time. Frankly it probably needed an extra year to not only fix what I just said, but also fix all the horrid pop-in. Overall, it’s a little embarrassing this game only has 7 locations total. Sonic Adventure from 1998 had at least 15 locations, 16 if you count the echidna tribe area. Ending the last 2/5ths of the game on the exact same biome as the first island is beyond lame.
Man, it'd be so cool to see what Sega/Sonic team actually had planned, if only it wasn't rushed. It kind of reminds me of 06 tho. You can tell for 06 that they wanted to make a huge game for millions to enjoy but it ended up being a flop, frontiers kinda reminds me of that but better. Also good video 15/10
Imagine is Frontiers was given like a years more time! Not to say this game is bad, I love this game. But income how amazing it would be if it was given a little more time!
Yeah all the Islands should have been unique in their own way Sonic games stage zones always had a different environment and specialness to them big fail for Sega but other than that I noticed all the little details of nostalgia
Great review. I'm a very "ending-biased" guy - that is, I prefer Endgame to Infinity War even though I know IW is the objectively better movie, because a great "ending" is my favorite part of any media. And for this reason, Frontiers left a really bad taste in my mouth. It's very obvious that Frontiers had a lot of passion but not enough budget/manpower. Since the game sold really well, I'm very excited to see what they'll do next. Hopefully this time we'll have aesthetically unique levels (I swear if I see Green Hill 1 more time), good + original level design, up-to-date graphics and technologies, a better PC port, controls which are natural-feeling AND controllable like Generations or Spark 3, and a compelling story with a good ending like SA2 or Unleashed. Basically, an optimized, polished, technically-sound video game with heart and passion. All I want. P.S. Also if I may have a tiny applause for Sonic Team... I have a 3080 PC and am playing on 1440p. When Frontiers was first launched, I was using the fps unlocker mod, and I was getting 90 fps with 100% GPU usage. What the f*ck, I said, because it ran worse than Cyberpunk 2077. I recently played it again after the first update, and I was getting 144 fps with 60% GPU usage. NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL AN IMPROVEMENT. Finally, the PC port is in a decent state.
Yeah I’m very happy with how this game turned out, but like you said, there was not enough people or money behind a project this demanding. But yeah can’t wait for more!
@@oreogod1985 Exactly. Like, I've commented on all of your Frontiers reviews and I complain all the time about reused assets, rehashed level design, 2015-The-Witcher-3-tier graphics, no playable Super Sonic, bad optimization, rushed ending, 60 fps lock etc. etc. but I'm a game dev myself and I know that without enough budget and manpower, these things are impossible. The only things I cannot excuse are the unnatural open world controls (instant stopping, instant acceleration, no momentum) and the all-around awful Cyber Space controls. They already had that nailed in previous boost titles, just take Generations' physics and tighten the turning radius, maybe tweak the jump, tweak some numbers and you already have the perfect physics system. Instead they built Frontiers controls on top of Forces controls, which can only be improved so much...
But to be honest for this to be a brand new game I just feels depressing that there's so much bad stuff about it and it's barely anything good about it, And we're not wasn't forgetting that this game is worth around 60 to $70 Also I haven't heard much about the DLCs either maybe they suck to
I personally don't get why people hate the true final boss so much. Sonic games had terrible, anticlimactic final bosses for a long time - Final Zone, Doomsday, Perfect Chaos, Metal Overlord, Time Eater and yet people only seem to hate this one specifically. I don't get it
I think this one more than any other since throughout frontiers, we get to trash these titans as super sonic and it’s super fun, but then the end of the game is Galaga, it makes it feel disconnected and what no one really asked for
I'll save the actual sentimental comment for the full video, but for right now.
I managed to get sick (AGAIN BTW) the day I finished this video that is both amazing and awful luck lmao

especially if you dont understand the final qte, get clapped, and have to do it all again.
and as a side note, since this is the hacking controls, all of sonics upgrades mean nothing here. which feels wierd for the final boss. oh did i mention you have to play on hard to actually fight this thing?
now reha has a bit more to do with the music notes to find
2:59
if cyberspace had physics:
The final to boss of the game
Except for the songs for the juke box update 2:50
Why does Sonic have a cross slash without Caliburn?
The fight itself is really terrible, the concept is really good and the music is amazing
So like, my game bugged out and skipped the entire fight with the moon, so uh... I don't have to destroy the entire ocean I guess?
I actually skipped the end boss and I was like how??????????????? How did I just randomly skipped the end boss
i'm pretty sure almost all the glitches have to do with the switch version of the game.
HAPPY APRIL FOOLS EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!! 🥳 🎉 🎊 ✨ 7:51a.m. 4/1/2023
Also good video 15/10
now review sonic 4 ep1 (after you take a break and talk about the update if you want)
Imagine is Frontiers was given like a years more time! Not to say this game is bad, I love this game. But income how amazing it would be if it was given a little more time!
They literally had 5 years, what they needed was more people and a Clear Direction
Wait The End has a boss fight?..I just Press X 3 times and done it was a QTE
Lol u gotta play on hard mode to get the actual boss fight
@@oreogod1985 Ah Thx man 😀
Yeah all the Islands should have been unique in their own way Sonic games stage zones always had a different environment and specialness to them big fail for Sega but other than that I noticed all the little details of nostalgia
Bro made a better finale than the game did
Ouraudoijwaqdolws island is my favorite island lol
But to be honest for this to be a brand new game I just feels depressing that there's so much bad stuff about it and it's barely anything good about it,
And we're not wasn't forgetting that this game is worth around 60 to $70
Also I haven't heard much about the DLCs either maybe they suck to
7:04 🤣
Or-a-nos is how I pronounce it
In my first play through of frontiers I thought that the 4th and 5th island were the same place
Imagine if a Mario game final boss was a *POKER GAME* because f-ck you and why not.
It’s definitely my least favorite boss, mostly because it wouldn’t HOLD ITS TONGUE!!!
W-what i dont remember the fight like that...
Im talking about the end
@@Absolutelyfoulcreature You didn't play on hard mode.
You remind me so much like RadicalSoda
Yooooo thanks man he’s one of my biggest inspirations
Frontiers falls off at the end
It’s oranges ITS MF ORANGES
hah nice beginning
Frontiers > Generations I said what I said
The intro made me fart
You got a new subscriber btw - We are the new Generation of Editors..... RUclips ain't ready

The ending left a really sour taste in my mouth. But I'm sure update 3 will save the ending
