For 06 there's actually an earlier version of that art where Sonic *is* in Crisis City but the issue is that the color scheme is very bland, it's mostly just brown and red and it doesn't pop as much as Kingdom Valley.

I love 06 and Frontiers (USA) boxarts because they just FEEL so damn confident. They are the embodiment of "What you see is what you get", and I love that about them.

I consider Sonic Adventures’s box art the best Sonic box art ever. Really captured Sonic’s attitude.
Oh great a new video! And here I am again with the details:
• The Sonic Heroes box art you showed is the US one. It's a bit boxed in and the character poses indeed don't look very nice. However the EU Box Art is much more dynamic, with the 3 main characters at the bottom with a colored line behind them representing their colors and the game's triple dynamic character teams. I believe it's much better and you would like it a lot more!
• In Sonic Rivals 1 the character renders have odd changes, for example Shadow looks back to Knuckles, Sonic is shoving Silver back and Knuckles is throwing a fireball, which are a power up in the game.
• Sonic Unleashed has a completely different box art in Japan, since it has a different name over there (Sonic World Adventure) Where you can see the full render of the US box art, but on the background there is a collage of all the cities you will visit throughout the game.
Oh yeah I forgot about the EU version of heroes, it’s definitely better and honestly wish that was the one they used for all regions, since the US one feels kinda lazy
And yeah rivals 1 that shadow render is hilariously cross eyed I love it lol
And yeah unleashed world adventure is a good one, I’m just not a fan of how sonic is tilted somewhat strangely, almost seems cartoonish but not a big issue, still love it

Oh man, 06’s box art has always struck me as the coolest. A sick Freeze Frame of Sonic blitzing forward. It tops the previous 3D games art imo, so the game’s fate is a shame…
I like the American Boxart for Sonic and Knuckles. It reminded me so much of the Batman Comics.

5:46 If you look closely you might notice that Shadow's eye was photoshopped to look at the the fireball and it looks disgusting lol
I really like the Sonic Adventure 2 Battle box art. There's something about the way the hero and dark characters are positioned that shows off the the style and theme the game is going for. It also reminds me of the original Kingdom Hearts 2 box art as well.
I hope they keep a consistent roll of good box arts, but I hope they do what even Battle League did with it's box art and give us that 2D art again, it's why I love Sonic Rush, so much style

unleashed box art was so goofy for me when idk about anything about sonic, ended up becoming my first ever ps2 game that i played.

the Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games (specifically 2010) box art is really good, perhaps the best of the Olympic games' box art.
Sonic doing a sort of upside-down twist flip on his snowboard, with Mario doing a jump on his Skis just looks so sick.

The Sonic Battle Soundtrack boxart is really cool.
I do like how Sonic frontiers has the American box art but on the little game card it has the Japanese box art which is kind of neat usage of both styles

although the US version of the box art for frontiers looks adventure-like and upbeat with sonic grinning and a vibrant land below, I've always liked the JP one more because it just fits the theme of the game.

SA1 DC is easy top 3, it made use of the jewel case size beautifully. Might be in the running for top 25 best box arts of all time.
When I saw Unleashed' box art, one of things I had in my mind was images of both sides mirrored. So Hedgehog Sonic would look like he's long jumping and Werehog Sonic would be leaping at you ferally (think Scar jumping through the flames in The Lion King)

I feel like the 06 Crisis City thing is mostly a product of Crisis City being used to represent the game after the fact ever since Generations

One of my Favorites is definitely the Japanese Sonic Jam, it’s like the Original Japanese Sonic Aesthetic taken to the Max.
Yeah even sonic mania didn’t quite deliver on that for me, jam has it for me as well

I love the fact you just ignored the european box arts in general, especially with the european Sonic 3D making the US Genesis one (Even with that lifeless Sonic and goofy as Caterkiller) look great.
Btw, just as some fun fact, the japanese version of Saturn Sonic 3D Blast was actually a super late 1999 release, even coming after both Sonic Jam AND Sonic Adventure, which might be why Sonic looks lankier there than in Sonic Jam and Okano's other artworks. The style looks great anyway and he really made some of my favorite art in the series.
I find it interesting how on the frontiers US/CAN box art sonic is basically doing the sonic adventure smirk but it’s less exaggerated
I mean even games like unleashed, black night and secret rings did the adventure smirk but less exaggerated
The modern sonic model has always been able to do that, its just that for some reason sonic team or sega dont use it as much

Hey man, kind of off topic but I wanted to thank you for inspiring me to try making Real Sonic Content again, in a weird way seeing your channel grow reminded me of my channel a few years ago.
Bro I just teared up reading this, this is like the kindest comment I’ve ever received, thank YOU for saying this. It definitely takes a lot of work and I think it’s fair to say I’m very lucky to have gotten so much on my channel right now with only 9 videos, but yeah for the comments like this, I think it’s worth it to make what you love. Hopefully we can both make it big! I enjoyed your frontiers cyberspace videos from before the game came out since I had no clue where to look, you had a large variety in your channel. Sonic adventure 2 is perfect as is
The spiral posing and colour choice all leads ur eye to the center. And the use of contrasting red and blue and the possing on sonic and shadow creates the contrast that links with the theme of the story. I dont think anything eles is needed

As a 90’s kid who grew up when these games came out. Sonic 1-3 were sick in my opinion. And of course the Japan versions were way better. And I hated the sonic & Knuckles artwork.

honestly yeah sonic jam is a prime example of that, the US one is just a light blue background where the Japanese one is covered i color and abstract shapes

On my opinion, Sonic Frontiers definitely defeats everything. Don’t judge me.
Thank you for not mentioning the European box art for Sonic 3D Blast (or Sonic 3D Flickies Island over there) because it's easily the worst Sonic box art I have ever seen.
You forgot about the alts for Sonic Mania like in America the the alternative box art is a more 90s cool radical looking studioopolis but the Japanese alternative looks more like Sonic and Knuckles Japanese box art
So wait I'm confused you didn't like Adventure 2 cause it had no background, then praised Black Knight....which had no background???
I think to me it’s because black knight complimented sonic much more than adventure 2, which had a strange gradient going on. That’s to me though
What do you think about Sonic Unleashed Japanese Box Art?
I vastly prefer Sonic World Adventure Japanese box art to the Western Unleashed box art
I think them looking small in the Sonic 2 art is intentional because its meant to portray a david vs goliath style composition with the giant eggman. Sonic 1’s is more weird because his pupil is covered by his brow
I also feel that you overrate the Japanese art when its very samey and doesnt say anything about the game or the characters. You could put them in any order and aside from Sonic holding up a three a general audience wouldnt tell what comes where. Whereas each subsequent art even without the indicators like a giant 2 or holding up three fingers is able to convey its a sequel with the increased complexity of the art. As for characterization, Sonic and Tails plus Sonic & Knuckles in the japanese art for 2&3 have the same basic emotions. Whereas in Sonic 2’s US art Sonic is cocky whereas Tails is optimistic and innocent which tells you what their dynamic is with Eggman in the background pissed off. The Sonic 3 art shows you who the protagonists and the antagonists are by making the protagonists the forward characters and the antagonists more in the back doing shady things. You wouldnt tell that Sonic and Knuckles arent pals yet in the Japanese art but you could on the US and especially EU art
