- Metallica perform "Fade to Black" off of their 1984 album "Ride the Lightning". Recorded live @ The Fillmore in San Francisco, California on December 9th, 2011 (the third of four Metallica 30th birthday concerts).
Best I've heard them in awhile. Fade to Black is amazing. Still makes me cry.
The vibes in that place are incredible!
One of the best songs ever !!!
nothing or NO ONE will EVER beat James how or the way he plays the guitar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
looking back is like present and the future... i still like it the more like during my school days and would of course like more in the future... i like it when a project comes and play it for my first step in the morning... blowing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!great!!!!!!!!!!!11
1 metallica, 1 people, 1 earth & 1 identity!
I have to acknowledge Dave Mustaine's words: ''If you hear people singing your song's melody (especially solo's), that's just the feeling, that you are doing the right thing''.
One of the most pretty songs of the universe!!!
Powerful song. Powerful version!!!! Hell Yeah!
Una de las mejores canciones que tiene Metallica Yeah!
Greatest. Band. Ever.
I love that explorer! Is god damn awesome! And the song... is my fucking favorite!!! Long life to MetallicA!!!!!
The great thing is mathiasnielsen66 can relive this concert over and over again
Absolutely amazing. I think Metallica is going to come and blow our minds away with a new album is the future. Can't wait! Lars is still doing double bass like a boss. Kirk and his damn solos, James and he's great voice, and Trujillo...NICE BEARD! Keep on doing what you do best you guys! |\m/| (>-
@AvernuM1 yeah Shkolnik is awesome. he's in one of the best thrash bands of all time, and has a sick jazz group too. very talented.
in terms of kirk though, i would say that he used to be one of the best metal guitarists. not for his skill, he was never THAT skilled. but always for his writing abilities. his solos were always unbelievably catchy and awesome, and also fit the songs perfectly. also, in the 90s he showed he could play different styles on the Load albums.
Had watched all this videos,loove the way they put the whole thing togheter,Even that they stoped playing anything that have to do with St.Anger(I know,not everybody like s it)But still "Frantic" and "Unamed feeling" are great to play,would be nice to add solos to it!!!
AMAZING!!!!! METALLICA ARE GODS!!!!!!!!!
Life it seems to fade away!!!!!!!!! Fucking awesome!!!
@sorariku2002 james' face after kirk hits the last note is priceless.... very happy he nailed it
it blew my mind when they broke out the acoustic for this song the first time they brought it back out of the death magnetic tour was when they played my city its crazy to see the next day online youtube exploded for it
we appreciate mathiasnielsen66 for recording this.. without you we wouldn't experience the concert thx!
@metalsim45 mathiasnielsen66 you are a beast! Best quality on youtube! Thank you so much!!
you can totally see the sadness in Kirk's eyes as he plays. Very touching
I think you mistake sadness for boredom my friend :)
Great Quality
How ANYONE could call Kirk a bad guitarist after that performance is beyond me
Nice to see the acoustic out
Wow... Just, wow....
4:05 awesome smile and then the monster riff FUCKIN AWESOME
@niqoboss this song is much more than that :p
i freaking love this song it's my 1st favorite song ever
missed the start... too bad this is a brilliant video and sound... love it
Anyone else notice that face Kirk put after he played the intro solo? It was like a "fuck yeah I pulled it off" face. Same face I put when I pull the solo off as smooth as that. That's a hard fuckin' solo let me tell you.
Metallica Family!!! DO YOU FEEL IT!!!
listen guys Metallica has a great balance right now, lars is an amazing drum player, that fact that he is pushing 50 and still playing all this is simply amazing and I give the man lots of respect, Dave, is a great guitarist but kirk really seems to fit into Metallica better, dave fits in megadeath and i think its a fair trade off because now there are two great bands and both ROCK Metallica is and forever will be without a shadow of a doubt THE best Heavy Metal band in the History of music
Now I remember 3:58 at Rock In Rio 2011, that was so funny :D
On some kind of monster they talk about not fucking with each others shit back then ie. lars did his drums kirk did his guitar and james did all the lyrics, the cooperative writing process is new to them so back then id say its pretty safe to say kirk wrote it
Genial, temon buen video que siga asi
I see a Camera in front of Lars' set. They're shooting a DVD :D Yayyy
Actually I take that back - Kirk was Killing them all....every song....much respect to him....James and Lars need to get passed the metal head trip they used to make fun of....
Poniendo el video en toda la pantalla y a todo columen me senti como si estubiese ahi...
my 4 year old sister could do double bass in the studio. the true skill of a musician is how he/she is live
FUCK YEAH !!!
Uno what pisses me off, everyone hating on Metallica. First they hate kirk because he took over Mustaine and say his a shit guitarist and then say they love him because of his legendary solo's such as fade to black and one and not to mention many more. Then they say they hate Lars because his old and cant keep up with everyone but then on death magnetic he does a massive continuous double bass part on All nightmare long and is a dam fast song. Then they hate on Rob. His just as good as Cliff.
have u listened to nightmare live?? just like blackenedand dyers (and im sure others) its breaks my heart that the more i reserch lars i see he truly is a pro tool drummer. it would be fine if he could do it be he cant
The will to set me FREAGHHHHHH.
this song touch my g point
nice rendition, MetallicA
@denNicola hehe magic and lots of practice
0:57 SHHHHAAAAA!!!!! *lean head back* XD
kirk said "just because you know umpteen billion scales, doesn't mean you have to use them all in a solo." plus the fast solos aren't very melodic, the slower ones are.
fuck yea \m/
@mathiasnielsen66 good job shooting through peoples arms so you could still see james at 4:14
TKT GROOOS CORTEX BBRAAAAAH 91 LES PYRAMIDES
recorded with?
Nice dude.
@bombaybottom Absafukinglutly!
the ending solo in the studio version is much better.
I love metallica for what they were. Their music can never be forgotten. However, there is the massive crossover albums that alot of you metallica deffenders love. load, reload, st anger, death magnetic (not bad considering the other ones mentioned) Its fine if you like it. But I dont so why the big deal? you guys dont like mustaine and no one forces you all to like him lol so why is it a big deal when someone expresses their opinion on their effortless era? they wont even play em live today.
it was on my birthday :P
Who would ever dislike this, Dam Bieber Fans
3atai !
fuck i just blew my speakers, oh well, IT WAS WORTH IT
From the camera by Lars' drum set, is this gonna be a DVD?
Kirk is Nov 18 of 62 and James is Aug 3 of 63
When will metallica come to philippines?
@williamtrevormcneil someone has to suffer for our enjoyment..
somehow this song is an anthem
kirk's Les paul is a beast
@BoxCarBoy12 Concentration my friend, concentration
what you guys are complaining about is called showmanship.... if they just went up and played the set without saying anything or doing something different you'd complain theyre boring
They should have done this song with Jason Newsted!
it was better is those days, no matter what u guys say/think
me!!!
Who wrote the ride the lighting solos is debatable. We will never know. but I DO know Kirk can NEVER get this solo right live. One of the top 25 guitar players of all time cant even play his own solo right????? Food for thought.
wow kirk on 4:06 :D
@metallicarabbit 6:34 *stop*.......*james trollface*......problem? XD
And then they hate that James voice isn't as strong as it was during seattle '89
Press 8 for James Laughing!!
Kinda disappointing, actually. Due to this being a celebration of their 30 years in the business, they should have played as close to the original song, as possible. Kirk should have played all the solos as he did on the record and James should not have played those improvisational melodies at the second chorus and such.
Just this once it'd be nice to hear as close to the original, as possible.
no, because in this case live versions are better than the original
I wanted them too make an exception in this case.
@tiag28 not true at all. kirk is much worse than he used to be. but he sounds pretty awesome in this vid. good opening solo
jkjl234 I think the drumming throws him out
@mattasaurus12 Well you fail at re seach watch mexico 2009 pleeeeeeeaaaassseeee
Wow look at metallica in 1984 ... look at them now I think they should have stopped although I love the band its almost sad to see how much has changed. :(
no tocaron one?
@BoxCarBoy12
Coz he probably knows that Mustaine's gonna steal the show the following night. Kiddin... No more Metallica-Megadeth feud, story is closed. \m/
how many song did they played in this consert?
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwsssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
what camera is this man ??
kirk has a sex face on when he solos... thats how you know hes good
KOUMOUK ! pouce vert si vous voulez bien que mon commentaire soit tout en haut plz.
@ChocolateTundra Better be!
WTF 0:20 ? how does he do it???
@papatub154 Ha! : ) Good point.....I just wish they'd stop with macho crap....I can't picture Cliff doing anything like that....
@TheRockdust13 T PAS FIDELE
3:42 kirk : fuck you all xD
whats with the unforgiven acustic guitar lol
Why did Kirk look pissed for every song this whole concert?
miss the double neck guitar
God bless iphones!
I loved them so much more in the 80's when they just played great instead of trying to act like a metal band.....no body cares about you yelling "hey hey hey" everytime there are no vocals...and someone get Lars a goddamn metronome again please! I love this band so much - it pains me to see some of the silly stuff they do - cliff would be killing them all!
TheRealGEO if Cliff were alive they'd have a different attitude when performing.
JAMES 2 GUITARS HETFIELD!!!!
If you try to play 80 songs over a weeks time you will forget parts of songs too.
