We're a 70,000 a year household with a Max of 90,000 when we are both working. We live in Clarksville Tennessee and have for 30 years and what was once affordable is now unaffordable in every single way. The nightlife here is non-existent compared to Techno City Detroit... We absolutely love the music scene in Detroit. The type of people you meet while enjoying the music you like most is also very awesome. Here in Tennessee you used to be able to pay 700 to 800 for a small two-bedroom siding house, now even that is $1200 + I just looked online to see what I can rent as far as a brick House goes in Detroit and I did find one for 1200 which to be honest is our Max. I also need to know that there are many readily available veterinarians in city. I have three animals that I will not take anywhere I don't know for sure if they'll have good medical care. I really don't want to get robbed or shot up down there. It's just as likely here though. I'm just so scared to move 10 hours away and somehow be worse than what I've experienced here in Clarksville. I'm tired of landlords not taking care of their properties and charging well over $1,200, however we have a grocery store a full grocery store in every 2 miles in every direction here in a Clarksville.
You definitely have a lot to consider. Every city will have it's pros and cons so you have to really consider your personal needs before making a decision. Unfortunately, prices have increased throughout the country which has made housing a lot less affordable. I recommend considering your options for buying a home, this way you won;t have to worry about paying landlords that aren't maintaining their property. Safety is important, and while Detroit has its challenges, many areas are safe and welcoming. I recommend visiting first or even doing a short-term rental to get a feel for the city. Good luck with your decision, and feel free to reach out with any more questions about Detroit!

There’s a ton of reasons why. Detroit has had a lot of bad press in the past but it’s a cool place and there’s a lot of growth taking place in the city.
