  • I'm never dyeing my hair again! In this video, I talk about my journey as a natural redhead. I also tell the story of the time made the huge mistake of trying to dye my own hair and what I'm looking forward to as I age.

I have dark brown hair but it has a lot of red in it and it drives my hair stylist nuts...It takes ages longer (than normal) to lighten and the results arent great! And if I go darker, the red still shines through quite strongly. When I was a teenager, I dyed it jet black (that took!) and then was scouted out in a mall by a young stylist who asked me to be her hair model at Vidal Sasson. The sylist decided to turn me platinum blonde and it took a grueling 13 hours to strip the black dye out and turn it blond! Although it looked beautiful in the end, I think she regretted taking me on! SInce then I've tried every colour - even purple! Lightening first is the key but it really ruins the hair, so it's not sustainable. Like you, I'm looking forward to going all white now and have pretty much given up on dying it at this point. I had the same desire to change my natural hair back then as you. But now as I get older, it seems so silly...natural red hair (or any colour) is so beautiful, why change?

What a hair journey! Sounds really exciting, but as you mentioned, it probably is really hard on the hair. And going natural probably saves a lot of time and money too!

Interesting! I fould this online: "Red hair can be dyed, but it can often take more steps to get it there. Red hair holds onto pigment more strongly, meaning you have to either strip or cover that pigment to get the red to go away, but even then your hair may still have a red hue to it. So, your hair will dye, but you need a good stylist to get you there with minimal damage."

I was called ghost all through high school. I got picked on a lot. I married a redhead lover though, so it all worked out. My hair dimmed a bit after kids and white grays started, so I found a henna recipe that is EXACTLY the right color. It costs me around $20 a year to maintain. It’s mostly clear henna and a little red henna, chamomile tea and gooseberry powder. It makes the grays strawberry blonde.

It sounds like the henna recipe you found would smell really nice! I’m so sorry you got picked on when you were growing up. I got hurtful comments from people about my skin color too-things like, “You’re so white, you look dead.” Ouch. Those things really hurt! I’m glad you and I have both overcome…and I married a redhead TOO!

Oh, P.S. I just realized maybe you weren’t saying that you married a redhead, but someone who LOVES redheads. Oops! Well, either one is great!

Funny. I am naturally blond, and love to be a red head. My mom is. And it suits my skin tone so much better than my natural color. I just found the henna copper red color and LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!! I feel like people look at me more when I have red hair 😅
