Most ppl knocking the ST haven't probably driven it for more than a test drive...if they've driven it at all. You get this car on the back roads and you'll be impressed. I did a drive with a few bikes, two Porsches, Audio R10, and a Maserati and all the owners wanted to sit in my ST and absolutely loved it. The car is easy to drive. At the end of the day they asked me if I had any racing experience. It's that good. These were older rich folks, some who actually have racing experience. I had no issues keeping up(very twisty road) and when I led the group, I left them behind. I was definitely pushing harder than they. But it doesn't really matter, for a fraction of the cost and at 23mpg when running hard, I win on the fun factor. And any 4 banger sounds whack..it's the exhaust that makes the sound from a 4 banger. Keep in mind this car was designed in Europe where their noise laws restrict loud cars. That's why it's quiet outside but the interior sound has been amplified. It's something that can be removed and a less restricted louder exhaust added...if you want. All in all, great car.
My brother got the exact model!! But the st 3 and he had the gti before he brought this. And he said the the st is better in every single department and that is soo true!
Same story here, I have an ST3 from this model, I had a mk6 GTI before this. I can tell you the GTI felt less like a hot hatch and more like a fast normal car. If you want a fun sporty car go for the Focus, if you want a more calm car that still goes fast down a highway, you could pick a GTI if you think it looks better.
I've driven both the 13' Focus ST and a 10" Volkswagen GTI the ST feels much more comfortable and after you put stiffer motor mounts in the thing it lays the power down just as well. The ST slightly edges the GTI out in a race. You have to shift at 5500 rpm or you are wasting your time in the upper rpms.
I'd rather have an MK7 GTI. Stock vs Stock they are quite similar, add a tune on the ST and it bumps that little ko3s boost up to 22 from 16psi...with all that said and done, at the track, you'll barely trap 105...if that. MK7 GTI- ko4 turbo stock, an APR stage 1 tune has been 110mph traps according to APR and have seen about 325whp...you can't even make 325whp on an ST even with full bolt on's and E30 mix fuel. So yes, the GTI would be the better choice, but I guess that's only an o pinon, right? -Owner of a 2014 Tuxedo Black Focus ST.
Eleven Bravo Yes I'm serious, you'd literally have to every possible bolt on- corn tune- etc to make a solid 325whp. While a GTi makes about 299whp/347wtq (mustang dyno) with just a stage 2 APR tune and a hi-flo cat. I see guys barely pumping out 330whp with UPGRADED turbos, lol. I had my ST for a bit over a year, I have A LOT of local friends with ST's, I know what they are capable of and it's nothing impressive.
MikeHuntIsItchy I have a buddy with a GTI stage 2 and he is only pushing around 275 (ish)Whp/ 300(ish)TQ, I'm not sure if he has the "hi-flo cat" but I don't see that adding 26hp anyway. So unless he has more mods then he says he does, I'd need to see a dyno sheet. I love GTI's always wanted one but then the ST came out and I decided to go with Ford. GTI's are awesome cars but people try to make them out to be so superior than the ST when they really aren't. I mean the GTI is more mature as far as interior and overall look, but what do you expect from a vehicle that's been around a lot longer then the ST.
Eleven Bravo dyno's vary, it's not about the number it makes there, but at the track. Here is a little idea. The record holding Focus ST (stock turbo) only trapped 109mph (unless that's changed since a few months ago) My buddy who I told you about, trapped 112mph. Which is significantly faster and the worst part is the ST will become slower as the mph climbs, while the GTI with their new hybrid turbos pull much better up top. I actually PREFER the interior and the styling of the ST. I bought a 2014 ST back in 2013, I paid $24.8k for it with all the incentives that offered me which is why I went with it in the first place. A GTI loaded up like my ST was, you're looking at 33kish give or take some. To each their own, but for ME and others, when it comes to performance, the GTI is leaps and bounds ahead of the ST in terms of acceleration. Pros and Cons to both cars, it all depends what you want out of it.
MikeHuntIsItchy I guess you're right, at the end of the day, it all comes down to preference. lol. Much respect to VW tho, my first stick shift was a 98 VW Golf GL. Those cars can take a beaten and still love you at the end of the day. Loved them then and still do to this day but I love my ST just as much. Good day sir, and may the boost be with you.
I wish I could get half the hatch choices here in the US that you fine folks in Europe get. After reading about the Astra VXR, I am truly jealous. I was recently shopping for cars and honestly, I love the Golf GTI, and I almost bought one... Then I stopped at my local Ford dealer and test drove a Focus ST. Similar options, more power (in the US, don't know in Europe), and about $7000 less. Needless to say, I now own an ST.
***** I own one. Love it. Not as great on gas as advertised but ya gotta pay to play. That said I also have an 04 ZX3 and it is no where near as nice in any way, but is harder on gas than the ST. All in how you drive it. Any complaints I have are tiny compared to the fun and comfort you get out of it. Smiles arounmd town and bliss on the highway. I am in no way a small guy, but i still dont find the seat uncomfortable. The ride is quite nice too, firm but not sharp like a lot of sport suspensions. Down sides? I find the speedometer a bit small and the cupholder is in a bad place in the 14s. The 15s they fixed the placement and put them in the doors.(those are seriously my only complaints) So is it worth it? For me, I would buy it again and again, zero regret.
Many years ago i owned a Sierra Cosworth hatchback model, my current MG-TF is in for repair due to someone damaging the car, this is the replacement car while my car is in the garage. Going from a Sierra Cosworth, to an MGTF to this, i am impressed with this car. I hate the fact it is front wheel drive but other than that this car is so so so smooth. How Ford managed this i don't know but it works. How they balanced the power when on the motorway in 6th gear is just baffling me with it's engineering.Ontop of that MPG can be just hard to believe for a 2 litre engine. The computer must be fooling me but my pocket seems to tally up with the computer so again it is hard to believe. The engine in this car is by far the engine for the next decade of Fords. Great review BTW and i agree with you, i concur with what you are saying.
what he failed to say is the st gears are too short so the gti takes on 0 to 60. the gti on paper has 40 less hp and yet it's quicker on the straight away. and that amazing sound is synthetic lol. I love my st but those are the facts
+Jorge ramos It´s the other way around. The gears are longer on the ST, look at the top speed on each gear and you will see it. And the ST is heavier. It´s still based on the mk2 platform. The Gti is newer, and lighter. Also VW always underrate the power with the oficial numbers. Oh, and the sound of the Gti is synthetic aswell. The point of the ST is bang for buck, and in this department, it offers more, for less. Gti is very good and refined, but expensive and overrated.
+Jorge ramos The sound isnt synthetic its just amplified intake noise. Thats not synthetic, its just amplified.... All exhaust is amplified anyway. The shape of exhaust modifies the sound, thats how different catbacks sound completely different the same car
Last week I drove a Fiesta ST and a Focus St back to back. As a 54 year old the Fiesta was fun, but the firm ride on Michigan roads was uncomfortable. Even though the Focus had less of an edge, its a much easier car to live with. My only complaint is with the shifter. The Fiesta's was brilliant. The Focus felt rubbery in comparison. Much similar to the GTI.
A 2 door focus like back in the day would be nice to have. The gti comes in a 2 door form which is why I probably would buy it over the focus. Good car nonetheless and excellent work XCAR.
While as awesome as the Focus ST is, there is one big problem facing it. The Fiesta ST is just more epic, cheaper, more fun, more economical, much more "chuckable" around the bends, hairpin bends and you have a rear wheel cocked up in the air...... This comes from experience. if I had a large family I would take the Focus ST. But it will be a compromise from the Fiesta.
I own a Focus ST, and I kinda disagree with you. the fiesta ST is a cool car, but it isn't faster, and IMO is even uglier than the focus ST. It's not more epic. I will say it is cheaper, but not by much, it does get better fuel economy, and it does have a lighter feel to it, making it more "chuckable," but it's not like it's light years better in the turns than the Focus ST. aside from steering feel, both cars seemed to handle about the same, aside from the fiesta ST being shorter and having a better turning radius. and trust me when I say that the focus ST is amazing in hairbend turns and is more than capable of cocking a rear wheel in the air. Honestly I wish I could own both, but I ended up going with the ST because it is faster. I love it.
Kvideos I didn't mean to say that the Focus was a bad car in any way shape or form! I'm just imagining, what would happen if ford did a Mondeo ST..... 4WD, the ecoboost engine from the new mustang, limited slip diff..... that would be awesome! Yes I do like fords quite a lot, but its something we share it seems!
Think it would be a new era for Hot Saloons...... How I wish Ford was back in the BTCC...... boy I miss the good old 90's BTCC!!!! This conversation has gone a bit off topic!
Don't understand what all the fuss is about with the focus ST. Drove one and yes it's a lot o fun but in a clumsy sort of way. It felt no faster than the GTI and a real handful with terrible torque steer. The GTI was composed with a solid feel and not out of control like the ST. The sound of the GTI engine was better than the ST I thought.
Kyle Howe Depends on what you are looking for. If you like the out of control feeling of the focus and utilitarian boy racer look, that's your prerogative. Both cars were great to drive but the GTI was more grounded. I stand by the ST being no quicker than the GTI, maybe at higher speeds by a small margin.
test drove a focus st. steering input, brakes, suspension felt great. interior was alright (bc st3 pkg) and the power delivery felt bland. Mk7 gti has much nicer interior, slightly better performance, nicer lighting pkg, and dcc allows me both pure comfort or sport. chose a gti autobahn for a couple grand more than a fully loaded st. Rain sensing wipers, assisted cruise control, heated leather seats, panoramic roof, and fender audio made the choice easy for me.
It's too chavy,it has a front of a fish, the golf GTI is more fun to drive. The golf has heritage, the first thing that pops into your head when you hear "Hot Hatch" Is "Golf GTI" It's a fact that still remains today,it well built, despite its lack of hp compared to the ST it's faster and more usable throughout the rev range. You get a proper flagship 4 cylinder note that growls and farts into the cabin and exhaust which is real noise, the ST sounds like a hair dryer on the outside and sounds artificially good on the inside.Golf looks more majestic and can put its power down with ease unlike the Ford.
I think Hot Hatch and think small, like the Golf used to be designed to be, not big hatches like the 4 onwards, the Focus and others. Little things like the Fiesta, they're hatches. Small rockets =). I'll watch the video and comment again soon.
This car isn't chavy, its the most grown up Focus ever, that's what I dislike about it. Yes, it has the front end of a fish, but no, the Golf isn't necessarily better to drive. Have you seen how this thing handles and accelerates? Besides, this only comes as a manual, unlike the Golf too. Not everyone is looking for heritage either, although the MKI Golf GTI is the daddy. The ST3 is also very usable through its rev range, and still has the nice low end grunt like the ST2 5cylinder did. They also managed to make the ST3 sound almost just as good as the MK2. The ST doesn't sound artificial to me, and I can also proudly say that its real anyways, Ford didn't amplify it, and it also sounds great on the outside. Power wise, the Ford torque steers a bit, but they have a better chassis than the VW. VW use clever diffs, that was their method for a long time.
Well,it does lack some problems in the dampening department,if anything I would love to see what Ford can actually do when they put all there performance nuts in one basket and build the RS 3,I'm a huge fan of the RS 2 and i sure hope that it lives up to its reputation.
When a load of Ford engineers last pulled together, the E30 M3 was born lol. And the Golf I is almost the daddy, one car predates it, the Talbot Sunbeam. And of course the original Mini Cooper 1275i lol. But yeah, the Golf was the first to shove a fist in the body of the super car ego. The ST3 is grown up, but aesthetically, it is a bit glitsy, and sorry SYEDOMAR North, but it's even more of an Essex-mobile than the ST2 and RS2. On the other hand, it is famed for its handling and chassis 'balance', as well as great power output and a hum drum sound. It's hot alright, but it's still a new Focus underneath, and that is something that none of us appreciate as much as the Focus Mk2.
VolksWagen have their brilliant diffs. Ford has come along with great suspension setups that handle 300bhp which is more than VW have ever released a FWD car with. Personally, the RS1 and ST2 are my favourite Focuses, they were built properly. Ford's word said "The ST is a dolphin, where as the RS is a shark" when speaking on the MK2's. I don't personally think the ST2 is much of an Essex-mobile, but I can't argue against the RS2.
Hey guys you should check your aspect ratio on some bits of the video, like inside de cabin, it has a thin line of contrasting colour, at least in my particular case, maybe in the editing try adjusting the bars a bit. The video rocks as usual!! Keep them coming! The New Audi S3 should do a great review! Cheers
I test drove a 1/2 dozen hot hatches, including the Focus ST, the Fiesta ST and I used to own a Focus SVT. I wound up with a Golf GTI. Why? Ride, interior quality, size (the Focus is just too big), outward visibility (terrible in the Focus). I commute ~ 30 miles every day and the GTI was just miles better as a daily driver. I actually drove a Focus ST on track & autoX at a Ford event and was disappointed, just not as sharp as the old SVT, more like a souped up family car than an actual sports car. For reference, my current benchmark is a Z3 Coupe 3.0, which is mostly garaged and just a weekend car these days (although it used to be my daily driver....).
I am interested in both. I test drove a ST a few months ago and liked it as did my wife. A friend has a 2010 VW GTI and I have to say his interior is much better than the ST. Here in the US from pricing both with similar packages there is not much if any difference in cost. I will be trying a GTI next month and it handles better and the back seat area is bigger I wll likely be going with the GTI.
I was planning on buying this car here in doha as it's only 15grand new however on the test drive I got destroyed by a new gti from a standing start (dsg). So I bought the new STi instead : )
I dunno if its just the US cars that have this issue but the ones here have alot of bad reviews from people complaining about the automatic transmission being really noisy and clunky and that they're afraid to drive it because it can start messing up at any time and someone could hit them. I wouldn't get a focus if it were my money.
Marques Burgess I wasn't talking about the ST, I was just talking about the car in general. All of the other trim levels offer a automatic transmission.
Best thing to do is test drive one and feel it for yourself. I tested the focus SE which was ok, then the Focus ST...holy crap. it's an incredible car. I also tested the GTI, and the ST beats it all the way back to hell. ST is quicker, more agile and just feels better.
georgeforeman89 Well some of the reviews I read said things were fine on the test drive but after they put a few thousand miles on it the transmission went to shit.
Mk7 Gti is still better get a unittronic chip if you get it installed in a certified place it doesn't avoid the warranty and the stage 1 chip brings the gti to 297hp. Only reason this car has more hp stock is because the gti stock has a governor take that out and get it chipped the focus will have a nice view of the gti tail lights.
Paul Krupa Get an ST with equal chip, and it will still pull on your chipped GTI. Cracks me up....you guys have to compare a chipped GTI to a STOCK ST....boy THAT's fair. Chip them both equally, and the ST still wins. Thanks for "trying out"....now GO HOME.
mechdude1 Not true. The ST and MK6 GTI are comparable mod for mod because of their similarly sized small turbos. The MK6 comes from the factory with a very flat tune to avoid competing with the more expensive Golf R. Feel free to look at power curves. The MK7 is a different animal with a newly revised engine and larger turbo. It'll keep up with a mustang 5.0 on a stage 2 tune and lose by a couple cars to my K04 MK6. Sadly for ST drivers they need a turbo swap to keep up with a modded MK7.
+Kyle Howe no look at videos at drag races the golf wins on average by 5 to 10 car spaces using DSG, the focus has hard touch plastics and the golf has soft touch plus the golf has way better lighting at night. there are lights by the door handle and pedal area and this makes it classy. the Mercedes C class has these features. there seems to be some sort of compromise by choosing the ford yet there is no actual gain elsewhere. GTI also has bomb proof resistance to depreciation.
+akshaar ramsurwaj I've driven them both. Down low they feel pretty equal. Past 25 mph the ST feels more powerful...because it is. The shifter in the GTI is a friggin' golf ball...what a joke. Also plaid seats (HUGE UGLY).....whoops I forgot my Lederhosen today. The GTI also bottomed out rather easily. The ST felt more planted, when pushed. On the hot hatch looks scale, the GTI is a 7-8, while the ST is a 10. I've checked used models of both....they both hold their value pretty well. They both shift equally well.
1:14 I have an ST, and I love it to death, but they're smoking crack if they think this thing will get 50 mpg. Maybe when it's coasting down a hill in neutral, but even then I'm not sure.
I'd still rather have a GTI. The ST in 5 door guise looks like a family hatch with an after market body kit thrown on. Unfortunately there's no 3 door.
Pretty nice car. I'm thinking about buying some hot hatch, I have an E30 M3 at the moment which I love but it's old and I can't really rely on it. Wouldn't buy this though cuz I hate the look of it, I'd still go for a GTi. But it's too expensive for me so it might just be a Polo GTi...
actually if you rebuild your M3 it would be more reliable from the most of the new cars. If still prefer new car and like the GTi Why don't you have a look at the new Seat Leon it is the better looking Golf :)
I know I'm driving a legend, and I'm in love with my car. It's in pretty good condition as well, bought one of the best ones available from Germany. I'd never ever sell it. Had it resprayed and fixed up but my girlfriend hates it because she thinks it's "hard to drive and not comfortable". She knows nothing about cars. Would never sell it but I think I have no other choice than buying a modern car as well (or breaking up but that's not an option :D). I didn't really decide to buy a hot hatch yet but if I'm really buying a modern car, it's going to be some VW, Seat or maybe, just maybe a Fiesta ST (don't like Ford at all except GT, the Cosworth cars and Mustang). A used one for sure though.
I agree with this review. The Golf GTi is a hot hatch for people who wear pens in their chest pocket and like gucci sunglasses with white frames. Its ok to drive, but the exterior, interior and worst of all, the engine lacks any character whatsoever. Its just boring. The Astra is cool (i am a die-hard Ford fan so that is high praise), but its too impractical and not that nice on the road. The Focus is epic. But i like the old RS and ST more.
I personally have a 2012 GTI and the day after I bought it got a APR stage 1 and that engine you say lacks character, matches the ST in horsepower and bumps my torque to just about 290 ft/lbs. Oh and does 0-62 in the 5.5 range, all for just $550 bucks. I can say I drive the last GTI's here in the states that were made in Germany and im proud of that, and I don't wear Gucci sunglasses I wear Dolce and Gabbana.
TheBrando1923 No offence intended, but i guess you can see why that is my opinion, the GTi is very conservative. I have not driven a tuned Golf, other than the old mk5 30-year anniversary model, and that felt pretty much identical to the standard mk5 Gti. And when it comes to tuning kits, you can get the Mountune one for the ST, 275hp and 400nm. And if you are on a budget you could get the old ST with the 5-cyl turbo engine and get the 260 or 290hp kit from Mountune. My friend has one with the 260-kit and the in-gear acceleration is unbeliveable.
TheBrando1923 I never get it when people say that Ford is not a cool brand. Ford has made more legendary street, race and movie cars than any other make, and they still get slagged off. Sure, they only made pretty much shit cars in the US from 1990-2007, but we europeans have enjoyed a steady supply of epic cars from Ford of Europe in the meantime. Look up the Mondeo ST220, now there is a nice saloon for you. And best of all, even the standard model was just as good. Meanwhile you guys got the five hundred, wich i belive was overweight and crap to drive.
Nakke144 you are correct my wife's parents have a five hundred and it is an overweight pathetic excuse for a car. the ford brand here in the US has a different appeal than in europe. we have Ford, Mercury and Lincoln all making the same cars that basically all look the same and are just badged differently, but can cost significanlty more or less depending on the badge. Ford Europe seems like they got it right, there are just to many DOT restrictions and EPA bullshit here in the US to have cool cars like you have in europe. The regular Ford Focus that you mentioned was good in Europe is a miserable economy car hear and is driven by senior citizens and kids that got them second hand from their parents. I would kill for a Scirocco R but we don't even get something like an S4 Estate car here.
Manual is good for fun but it is not always fun.. imagine yourself driving an ST in a traffic jam. what a painful experience. gti is good because it has DSG as an option, when i want to have fun, I can, when I'm tired or bored, it can be a relaxing cruiser as well. this is just one of the reasons I'll take the gti all the time.
I lived in LA for 3 years with my st and never complained about the manual. People who bitch about dealing with traffic just can’t handle a manual transmission. It’s like I always say. You know what’s worse than a manual? The traffic. I don’t care if it’s a manual or auto. Traffic sucks and if you can’t handle a manual then you’re just not cut out for it.
While I don't mind the appearance of the ST - that giant carp mouth at the front, even - I really wish they wouldn't wrap the tail lights around the side of the car. It seems to distract from the smooth transition that the side profile to the back offers. I also think the interior while easy to use and well-laid out, is a bit too over-stylized. It almost screams 'look at me! I'm a sporty pseudo-road race car!" Too much "XTREME!!!1!1" design elements going on inside the cabin of the ST, IMO. Then again, maybe that's the point of this car? I mean, look at what Subaru does to the non-STi trim WRX vs. the actual WRX. I'd rather have an understated car that shows more performance in actual use than when you're just looking at it. That is why I prefer the GTI interior design cues, but prefer everything else about the ST.
Ford quality has been getting better. But not enough to keep up wi VW. Paint job is bad, door handle is flimsy, hood gaps are huge etc..I'll pass for this one
I mean no offense, but those reasons you listed are the exact reasons I'd expect from a Golf fanboy, and are why people don't take you seriously. The reasons are always either outright false or just ridiculous. The paint job is very good like most manufacturers, the door handles are perfectly fine and somehow hood gaps are now a measure of quality? Maybe it's your own perceived quality which is biased. If you want a reason to pick the GTI that'd be the interior quality, not the bloody door handle. Get real dude. Fast forward to today, the interior quality difference is minute while the gap between driving dynamics is greater and greater in favor of the Focus. I wonder what reasons you'd find now, 4 years later.
Oneofone.... I'd rather drive a manual anyday over a paddle shifter sure they might be faster but there is nothing more rewarding then slamming 2nd gear or any gear for that matter. As for the car is rather spend the extra cash for a mk6 gti.
the only thing the ST has over the GTI is that it can oversteer so its a little more fun than the GTI but besides that the MK7 GTI has faster 0-60, lays down power better, looks better, more matured, interior is better, exhaust is better, no torque steer... GTI wins for me..
The 2013/14 Focus ST beats the 2013/14 GTI in almost every specification. HP, torque, 0-60, top speed, quarter mile, MPG. GTI wins in weight. Those are stats and fact. I also like how the ST drives but both are really good and fun cars to drive. The looks and style are all opinion. I have a 2013 Focus ST(not stock) and I've beaten many GTI's, some modified, some not.:) Overall, I feel like the ST is a better performing car.
An important thing to note is the MK7 GTI is a generation ahead of the Focus, of course it will be superior. My dad has an MK6 GTI and both he and I love it, but I drove the focus and fell in love. So much in fact that I plan on trading my car for one within the next couple months. The interior is a very nice place to be, it looks sharp, and it sounds great. Not to mention it is such a joy to drive, as is the GTI. They're both truly incredible cars, the decision really comes down to individual preference.
I will buy WW if only there will not be services mean the car comming from factory and driving well for 20 or more years with out any problem ! But they still brake down like any other cars SO F off with any GTI
Ford means power i have 1.6 only version with 200.000 on the clock and still driving w well what i have done is just cambel change oil brake pads if they need it to SO F.....OFF with Agory piss of Crb wW
If it looked like the old focus (RS500 family) would be great. But it looks like the new Focus, so... it looks like sh/t! I'd take the Golf any day, or the Opel, or the Megane, or even the Ceed GT. The minute I'd step out of this focus I'd be like: "damn this looks bad!"
Anyone who think manual is dead needs to send google an e-mail asking to be put on the waiting list for the new google car that drives it self... perfect for the little girly men who can't handle a manual shifter
+Kurt Bang Tidy oh so you were talking about trucks and heavy construction vehicles ? maybe manual is better there but not for cars , Dsg is quicker shifting, lighter on fuel and faster plus most cars are becoming dsg such as supercars.
Kyle Howe I still think that's a matter of opinion. I think that DSG is more fun to drive, the car can suddenly boost without any effort, all that's needs to be done is to put your foot down. Manual not quite like that.
This guy either doesn't know what he's talking about or is really bias. Every other review I have seen have said how disappointed they are with the new focus st. It's classed as a downgrade from the last. Major oversteer and nothing special. I'm not a vauxhall man at all but the Astra vxr is far more appealing and has gleaming reviews. Real mechanical lsd (not some shit electric system), electric steering replaced with true hydraulic steering. At least that's got some special features
These dont stack up against a golf gti slowest turbo car on the road welldone ford every other focus turbo or not happily keeps up even after any remap or bigger turbo makes no difference to these cars except on paper 🤣🤣🤣
Most ppl knocking the ST haven't probably driven it for more than a test drive...if they've driven it at all. You get this car on the back roads and you'll be impressed. So yes, the GTI would be the better choice, but I guess that's only an o pinon, right?
-Owner of a 2014 Tuxedo Black Focus ST.
MikeHuntIsItchy What are you talking about you can't make 325whp with the Focus ST.. Are you serious? lol
Eleven Bravo
Yes I'm serious, you'd literally have to every possible bolt on- corn tune- etc to make a solid 325whp.
Eleven Bravo
dyno's vary, it's not about the number it makes there, but at the track. Here is a little idea. The record holding Focus ST (stock turbo) only trapped 109mph (unless that's changed since a few months ago)
My buddy who I told you about, trapped 112mph.
THE BEST Focus ST review ever and that includes everything up to yesterday!!
I've not driven one yet but that original five pot burble....
Tons of tuner parts out for it now as well
I wish I could get half the hatch choices here in the US that you fine folks in Europe get.
Not even amplified. It´s just a valve that opens on hard throttle, breaks the sound isolation and has a tube connected to the cabin.
Not 50mpg, more like 30
While as awesome as the Focus ST is, there is one big problem facing it.
Yes I do like fords quite a lot, but its something we share it seems!
oh, I meant to say that I went with the focus ST, lol. and yeah, I would love to see some AWD platform ST with the 2.3 ecoboost. we can dream, right?
Think it would be a new era for Hot Saloons...... How I wish Ford was back in the BTCC...... boy I miss the good old 90's BTCC!!!!
This conversation has gone a bit off topic!
Kvideos your dream has come true , check out the new Focus RS
Definitely want one these. I always wanted a hot hatch, almost got a speed3 but got an si coupe
Couldn't agree more gti all the way
Oh yes thanks...! Save 3 cents on Shell when I'm in the UK
Koons is selling Fiesta ST's for $17,200. If I didn't already have a new mustang, this little thing would be a perfect DD.
great rewiew but onestly is a step back over the RS 500. But yes, better than a mark VII Golf GTi. Nice music and editing, love XCAR!
test drove a focus st. steering input, brakes, suspension felt great. interior was alright (bc st3 pkg) and the power delivery felt bland.
Where did you find the snow?
I was wondering with all that power does the car not handle well in the wet or even worse in the snow?
For reference, my current benchmark is a Z3 Coupe 3.0, which is mostly garaged and just a weekend car these days (although it used to be my daily driver....).
actually the st is a better track car, just look at the numbers by motor trend and car and driver..i test drove both and liked the ST better
I don't really think anything can make me regret buying a VW GTI. Lol. ST is nice though.
Available in France, this video but I have never seen one yet on the roads.
I have one of these, great cars, but if you think you can get anywhere near 50mpg on the motorway, I bet you think the moon is made of cheese!
Mine standard on the dyno pushed 262bhp and 285ft
Why is the video is block for Canada?
haha canada!
nice presentation!
As always, a great video. Keep it up!
Maybe its cause im on a tablet? It says user has not made this video available in your country....
What was this shot in 10 fps?
50 mpg on motorway lmao
Yeah, maybe at 60mph behind a lorry.
The all Focus ST's are manual
Marques Burgess This^ lol
Marques Burgess
I wasn't talking about the ST, I was just talking about the car in general. All of the other trim levels offer a automatic transmission.
Best thing to do is test drive one and feel it for yourself. I tested the focus SE which was ok, then the Focus ST...holy crap. it's an incredible car. I also tested the GTI, and the ST beats it all the way back to hell. ST is quicker, more agile and just feels better.
georgeforeman89
Well some of the reviews I read said things were fine on the test drive but after they put a few thousand miles on it the transmission went to shit.
when is coming GTI performance test? ST is good car, but i would still by gti over it ! :)
Thanks for "trying out"....now GO HOME.
mechdude1
Not true.
+mechdude1 golf 7 gti stock will always beat the ford focus ST stock. look at all videos and that's besides interior quality and value
Maybe when it's coasting down a hill in neutral, but even then I'm not sure.
i love the sound of the engine, n the bucket sits
I'd still rather have a GTI. The ST in 5 door guise looks like a family hatch with an after market body kit thrown on. Unfortunately there's no 3 door.
Pretty nice car. I'm thinking about buying some hot hatch, I have an E30 M3 at the moment which I love but it's old and I can't really rely on it. Wouldn't buy this though cuz I hate the look of it, I'd still go for a GTi. But it's too expensive for me so it might just be a Polo GTi...
E30 M3? man F*** getting a polo GTi! put that money into rebuilding your drivetrain and making your car reliable. You're driving a legend!
The Fiesta ST is also a great car. Better than the Polo
actually if you rebuild your M3 it would be more reliable from the most of the new cars.
But still think an old car has more problems than a newer one...
maybe ill get this in the future. i have a Modified 2010 Mazdaspeed 3
I'd still go for the Astra :p
Vauxhall's are gay.
*****
Opel is not!
gay
rather donate money to charity the opel won't be worth a lot after driving off the same day, and you will lose a ton of money

TheBrando1923
No offence intended, but i guess you can see why that is my opinion, the GTi is very conservative.
Nakke144 its all good man im just havin some fun. im sure the ST is a good car, im just personally not a huge fan of Ford
TheBrando1923
I never get it when people say that Ford is not a cool brand.
Think the Fiesta ST with the Mountune engine upgrade would be an even better buy!
no 8 speed DCT option?
nope, not in europe. automatic gearboxes are for the weak
@@NoxiousPond you are just fucking gay replying my comment from 8 years ago.
Could watch it in Germany! Great video, great car!
probably because the car is actually built in Germany..
oooining
Yes, and thats probably the reason why it´s such a sharp handling car!
Hmmm this or a megane rs250/265???
this. always this.
does this guy do every review?? hes good i just thought they had other ppl too lol
Blocked in USA?
loaded up fine for me (florida here)
Works fine now
While I don't mind the appearance of the ST - that giant carp mouth at the front, even - I really wish they wouldn't wrap the tail lights around the side of the car.
50mpg??
the sound of ford is like a super car nice💙💙
love how u compare it 2 everything on the market, and don't mention RenaultSport
I want one
No. A GTI with the DSG gear box and the performance pack please.
I wonder what reasons you'd find now, 4 years later.
would like to see cosworth have a hand in the new focus.
Regret buying a GTI? Never in a million years. DAS AUTO FOR LIFE
Peaple who want more truck space than an ice cooler...
I love my ST though!
Even my focus se is peppy for an ordinary daily driver car.
50 mpg lol I’m getting 29 mpg good review tho
Oneofone.... I'd rather drive a manual anyday over a paddle shifter sure they might be faster but there is nothing more rewarding then slamming 2nd gear or any gear for that matter. As for the car is rather spend the extra cash for a mk6 gti.
Song ? haha
the only thing the ST has over the GTI is that it can oversteer so its a little more fun than the GTI but besides that the MK7 GTI has faster 0-60, lays down power better, looks better, more matured, interior is better, exhaust is better, no torque steer...
GTI wins for me..
ST has much cheaper parts and insurance rates are lower on it as well. After the motor mount TSB it lays down the power pretty good as well.
They're both truly incredible cars, the decision really comes down to individual preference.
jack gardiner Thank you for your relevant, sound and credible argument. It will be noted accordingly.

Anyone who think manual is dead needs to send google an e-mail asking to be put on the waiting list for the new google car that drives it self... perfect for the little girly men who can't handle a manual shifter
what if I told you that driving a manual doesn't make you a man and driving a dsg/auto doesn't mean that you are a girl.
+akshaar ramsurwaj I would say tell that to the old boys who used to drive manual trucks with two shifters
Manual not quite like that.
not blocked in the middle east
Blocked for the Netherlands :, (
try using a proxy
It isn't blocked for me, and I'm Dutch.
Nope it isn't blocked in the Netherlands..

who cares?
Who needs german car anyway, high price low quality.
star trek car
ford and kawasaki all the way!!!
Helps if you can watch, fools
Still a Ford..
Nice car but still not as good as mark 7 golf gti
