Should Dani sell the last of her clothes or donate them? What do you guys think?

    • @lucyoconnor4562

Donate donate donate. Get it all out of the apartment and free herself from it as quickly as possible. Partly what exacerbated my previous clutter situation was "one day when I have time I will......". That's my advice, get it out and gone. Huge well done to Dani and great work you too. Wishing you both the very best 😊

So sorry you lost your job. You have done amazing job decluttering. It’s nice you can have a room for your closet now.

  • @Lucinda_Jackson
    @Lucinda_Jackson 2 месяца назад +14

Unless Dani REALLY needs the money, I vote for donating it. Selling is a very time-consuming extra job. Photographing, writing descriptions, packing and mailing, if necessary... And the cost of supplies for mailing cuts into her profit. Also, in the meantime while waiting for things to sell, all that stuff takes up a huge amount of space. Unless she has access to a free or very inexpensive booth at a flea market type of spot... Then I'd say do it and get what she can then donate whatever is left over.
Getting it out of the house will be like a huge weight lifted! And her living room will feel enormous for awhile with that space regained. She'll have room to declutter her living room into the space she wants!

2 things: I think Dani felt so much better when she ordered her birthday dress and the blouse. Look how light and happy both pieces are. They actually stood out on the rack!😄❤️ Also, the major thing I’ve learned from you April is start small. I have a terrible procrastination problem, that’s only gotten worse since retirement.😳 (There’s always tomorrow.) I have started splitting my big to-do’s into smaller jobs. Instead of tackling a whole deep clean of my kitchen, I start with my drawers. Then onto the upper cabinets. Then lower. Move on to the fridge. Stove is almost last because I hate cleaning it the most. Finally, scrub the floors. It takes 5-6 days, instead of a month of delaying and 1 1/2 days of misery. As for sell or donate? Unless there are items that are leather, or designer, etc. I would donate. Getting it out will be more beneficial that a few $$$ if/when they sell.

I've learned to do the same. 10 minutes here, 15 minutes there, and it's barely noticeable. And often a nice break from working online.

I've been watching so many decluttering videos and its amazing how that gets you moving. I'll put the screen down mid-video, open a drawer and start decluttering totally automatically! And yes a drawer, shelf, small category at a time. Hubby wants to do it all in one fell swoop so his never gets done. I'd love to do nothing else for a couple to weeks and just get it done, but without a team of people helping drag it away, it's too much.

I love Dani! I think she should try posting about 5 to 10 items of clothing and see how easy or hard it is for her to sell the clothes. Since her school is closing, it may be more important to her to sell the clothes. Not sure if she gets a break between school years, that might be a good time to process the posting of clothes for sale. Also as she goes through the clothes to sell she may pare them down more deciding some are not worth selling. Then if they don't sell in a certain amount of time donate them or take them to your clothes swap. Dani, good luck with your job hunt and in your decluttering!!!

Team Donate! Maybe if there are a some high value items, she could sell those, but just a few and get them online asap with a selling deadline. Because my experience is that it takes a lot of time and effort and in this case, room in the house.
Free space is a blessing, especially in times when there is a lot going on. And that mental and environmental clarity and space is worth more than anything. And will probably be more conducive in taking steps towards a new future work-wise than anything else 💗

Donate at this stage. At some point you just have to cut your losses and say goodbye (unless you can do a carboot sale (uk word) garage sale style thing and sell all at once).
Once you are settled and all the decluttering is done you can go back to selling as you go. The pile is too much just now!

Donate 💯. If you haven't started the selling process today, the cluttered sell piles will just sit there and begin to attract more clutter. By letting those potential sale piles go, you will free up so much more head space and most likely feel lighter overall.

Dani, you are absolutely lovely. If I had school age kids, I would love if you were their teacher. Here’s something I think about with decisions like this. There are three of me. Current me (who I am wired to be and how I’m most likely to act). Growth me (I could realistically go here with time, energy and/ or resources). Fantasy me (the person I think I SHOULD be based on external messages). If fantasy me is making the decision, it’s 98% gonna fail. If growth me is making the decision, I have good odds of completion-so long as I’m in a life space where I have time, energy, and/or resources to dedicate to the venture. If I don’t have the luxury of those items, I make the plan that gives me the best, swift outcome and acknowledge it could have been different but this is still a valid decision for where I am right now in life. You’re in a stressful place of job search. So give yourself grace in the decision you make. None if them are wrong, but they all have outcomes. So pick the outcome that’s best for your current situation and your mental health. Peace and blessings to you!

I think Dani should donate the clothes. You accumulate more through the years and it’s better to let the others go. I had three closets worth of clothes. I have decluttered them down to one closet. Most of them haven’t been worn in years. It was time! As you get older you will realize you really don’t need or wear them anymore. You will feel lighter, Dani! Great job, April! Hugs to Izzy!🐈‍⬛👍🥰💜🌷🌷👍

The magic part - or at least the fun part - I love putting like with like and then a teeny bit of sorting within a category - and it looks so nice! I just imagine Dani will be swanning into her walk-in and selecting her colours and outfit and feeling like a million dollars. It's especially comforting to have some order and calm in your home when scary things like needing to find another job come up unexpectedly. You'll have no problems, you come across as supremely centred and competent and you have amazing fashion sense - I love love love your birthday dress.
As far as the sell pile - if there's anything in there that might get a bit of money that might be the thing to do - I've never really had anything that I could expect to make the money from by selling that would make up for the fuss of having to do the selling.

Dani, you are amazing! Look at what you’ve accomplished! My suggestion is to donate the clothes and focus forward. You’ll be living in the past for years to go, if you try to sell everything. Add in the maintenance and administrative time needed, and packaging, unhappy buyers, etc. Give yourself the gift of NOT selling those things….and help an organization that can do good things from your donation. Rock on, Dani!!!

Dani- Not sure how many got your “They like me, they really like me” comment and where it’s from, but I did and yes, we like you!! Place is looking great. I would lean more towards donating even though you are losing your job. The time and energy to sell them and what I’m guessing will be little return, you could spend looking for another job. When I cleared out closet and stuff from my garage people said I should do a garage sell. A complete sense of dread hit me with all that would entail and I was ready to let it go; I didn’t want to continue to mess with it and let it have a hold on me. The stuff still sitting in the living room is just a reminder that “you didn’t finish” and increases the urge to just put some of it back now that you have some space. Plus when you tackling the kitchen and bathroom, you need a staging space. Best wishes to you and I’ll be praying for a fab job door to open!

Realistically selling takes a lot of time, if they’re going to individual buyers. If she can drop them at a place like Buffalo Exchange in US where they take what they want and donate the rest, that might make a little money. We tend to overvalue our castoffs, they may be out of style. So probably donate is the most efficient and gets it out!

However, if you do have to donate to Salvation Army or goodwill, this will help you buy a lot less because you will alwys remember the amount of money you spent on things that you no longer enjoy using. Donate. It will help Dani get her house back faster. If you sell online, you will have to take a picture, do description, then keep track of the item to send it out in a timely manner. All the while the item is hanging around taking up space. If you decide to sell only some of them, only keep the big dollar value items. At least some of your space will be reclaimed. Great job so far!

There is a 'best of both worlds' option for all those 'for sale' clothes, currently taking up a lot of space - she could take them to a consignment shop or a clothing reseller that will list on sale sites on her behalf. They will take a commission from the sale, but it offers the huge benefit of an instant declutter!

As someone on a downsizing / simplifying kick, one piece of advice I have for Dani is following one in / one (or more) out and trying to edit down a bit more so everything can breathe a bit and be more easily accessed- when my drawers get stuck when opening/closing or it’s too heavy to shove clothes on the rod to see what I have, I know it’s time for an edit. Great work so far though!

I love your gentle way for declutter!
Maybe try bringing some treats for the kitty? (and give them to her yourself). She may just change her mind about you 😊

Normally I would say donate but if she is going to be out of a job try selling first. This video came up at a good time for me I am trying to take my "summer" clothes out of boxes and hang the problem is that spring and summer are not coming to Scotland just a rainy date a couple of degrees warmer one day and back to cold. making decisions is hard without seasons,

If she doesn’t ned the money, I Vote donate. The quantity is so great that the time and effort it will take to sell is not worth the sanity. When those bags are gone from her space it will feel so relaxing she won’t even remember what was there.

Donate. I even donated some vintage cartoon glasses from the 70’s to a place that could sell them and make good money that would benefit their organization. I just made sure to point out the valuable stuff to the volunteer. They really appreciated the donation. Made my heart sing. I felt the same way a few years ago when I donated work clothes to the dress for success people. It gave people clothes to interview in when the women weren’t you “standard” size.

it feels so good to just donate. less hassle for you, faster to declutter that remaining pile. but if you need more money for a project or to build up your savings, then sell if you can.

I like to make compromises when I declutter. Break it in half, donate 50% and sell 50%. Then keep doing it as time goes on until pile is gone.
