- Fishman and LR Baggs both make fantastic preamps for string players. In this video, we'll compare and contrast four products we carry so you can see which one might be right for you.
Electric violins, violas, and cellos all benefit from having a preamp in the chain. So do acoustic instruments with pickups on them. Each product here has a different feature set and a different list of pros and cons.
Thank you, really informative, concise overview and product comparison. 👍🤓
I appreciate your videos. You clearly know your audience well. So many string players are so new to electronics that it's good for you to be covering the basics. Very informative. Being a player who has been doing this with effects since the early 90s I do seek higher level advanced string effect tutorials but those seem very rare/niche.
Those usually come in the form of private lessons. Then you can ask questions and get a lot deeper. A number of us do those.
Love this guy. Smart and concise
It would be interesting to have a comparison video between those preamps and a Behringer AD121, I use the AD121 with my YEV-105, it may be cheap but it’s proven to be very reliable, noise free and can create a very nice warm tone.
Great video again, thanks!
An Helix stomp is much more for the value imo. Being able to use an ir adds so much.
Thanks for the great video. Looks like you know your stuff. Would you recommend the fishman or lr baggs for a cello with piezo pickup for best sound? I was debating between the Para DI and Platinum Stage Analog Preamp, which i would have though should sound similar to the other Fishaman products in terms of preamp?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks
I can't really make a recommendation. That's like me trying to recommend which toppings you should get on your pizza. My job is really to just show you what the products do and let you make the best decision for yourself. Your ears will be different from mine.
You can't really go wrong with Fishman or LR Baggs, though, so hopefully that takes the pressure off.
@ElectricViolinShop I decided to go for the Baggs, it has a few extra requires I hope to make use of. Also picked up a Harley Benton for good measure. Who knows, maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.
I guess I have a very specific need and peobably taste, so I appreciate you don't want to get specific.
Thanks for replying
Ps
pepperoni every time😉
Hi, Great video! I just got an acoustic violin with a bridge pickup, and I'm needing a preamp/di for it. It will be going straight into my Scarlet 2i2 audio interface, and from there into my DAW. So I won't be using an amp or anything. What preamp would you recommend for me to use? Would the AFX Pro EQ Mini be sufficient, or is a preamp not even necessary as I already have an audio interface?
Try it without a preamp and see if it sounds good to you. My guess is that you'll get a significantly fatter sound with a preamp. The ProEQ Mini is a good starting point.
Pretty comprehensive.
Looks like the AFX does not have an xlr out. Is that correct?
Thanks for the review, can you review boss ad 10 on violin?
We don't carry that pedal, so it'd be kind of a pain to get my hands on that one.
Thanks for your videos! How can I plug a condenser mic to any of this preamps?
None of these are designed for that. You need a preamp with an XLR input and phantom power. That's a whole separate animal.
@ElectricViolinShop can you recommend one? Or if I use a wireless system with a jack output in the receptor, I'll be able to plug into one of those preamps from the video?
@@ElectricViolinShop thanks for the help
what are the best frequency for a live performance on the violin using yje LR BAGGS DI
Every situation is different. You’ll have to use your ears.
Can you do a video on all your electric viola’s?
It'd be a short video. There aren't very many.
Could you tell me how many acoustic-electric violas there are?@@ElectricViolinShop
They tend to just make 5 string electric violin/viola hybrids if anything.
Hello brother, is there a way to program multi effect nux-07
I'm not familiar with that pedal.
Lr Baggs Venue has a terrible tuner. It went out on me a couple times when I really needed it.
