I know a guy who builds and sells Series Drogues, flags, and does small sewing jobs.
Had a tiny boat, but could power a sewing machiene on a good day, and hand sew on a rough day.
Seemed to be able to make $3-400 on his first day in port. Would gather supplies, and disappear again.
Great ideas, thank you. No smuggling eh? Lol. God Bless.
Haha, risk vs reward lol
I spend less than an hour every other day working remotely as an PT online instructor - pulls in $25k - $40k per employer. :)
Looking forward to this series!
I've been wanting to go live on the ocean ever since I discovered the world of sailing during lockdown. But I consider myself to be pretty forward-thinking and the money aspect is what has held me back the most. I spent 5 years in college, been working almost 3 years, and will have my loans paid off in maybe 2. At that point I'd be debt free and consider sailing, but I'd be so nervous about giving up my salary. I keep telling myself I'll use the company to get myself a Master's degree before I leave, so that if anything doesn't work out on the water then at least I can readjust to land life more smoothly.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I am hoping that by the time I am done with the series everyone who watched will be able to have something to sustain their cruising lifestyle 😎
Great video and info. I love your videos. I’m starting to watch them all. My current favorite sailing channel on you tube is the old sea dog but yours might move to my number one spot. Great job. You’ve inspired me to be a sailboat charter captain!
Thanks Jeff, opening a small llc with your own vessel, getting a 6 pack license will allow you to run your own little charter, they can be very lucrative
Thanks for this video.... I think this just might move my retirement and live aboard plans up several years, to bridge the gap between now and when I can pull from my retirement accounts and Social security. Waiting another ~12 years was going to be soul crushing, now I'm not sure I need to. And as we all know, the best time to go sailing is now. Thank you!
You are very welcome, thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I will be posting more in this series throughout the month and hopefully it will help even more
As useful as ever Chris. Thanks.
Thank you so much
Thank you!!!! I'm selling property and buying a sailboat, I want to leave this place! But money is a concern this helped tremendously ♥️♥️♥️
How is it going?
Excellent video. Right up my alley!
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I am hoping that by the time I am done with the series everyone who watched will be able to have something to sustain their cruising lifestyle 😎
Nice work as always Chris!
Thanks sam
Chris, I appreciate the work you do, man. Love your no-nonsense, results-based approach and your depth of knowledge. Again, thank you for these videos.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment
Are you in Puerto rico ?
@@ChasingLatitudes Yep, close to Fajardo. I'm a retired Army aviator that returned home to sail...if this stupid boat market lets me, that is LOL
I'm in isla verde , shoot me an email jointheadventure@how2sailing.com friend of mine from the members area is in Fajardo boat shopping as well, maybe we can all meet up this summer for a sail
@@ChasingLatitudes Will do, that'd be awesome.
Great content as always! 🤙🏾 Hey Chris, before I forget, some time in the future, can you do a vid on live aboard tips? Like, maintenance living on the hook vs. full time sailing? Thanks as always! 👍🏾
Of course
Well done mate😏👍👍
thanks man
Great content as always. 3 years away for retirement, maybe sooner if I pay down some debt sooner. I need to work on getting some sea time & keep an eye out for a SV.
Tha ks my man
Good stuff, thank you! I plan to get my six pack and this was the reminder i needed to log my hours. If you end up reading this; the quick research i did suggests i need to start logging the hours on an official Coast guard form. Can you speak about that a bit please? What form? Do i just need to turn it in when i apply? Or annually or something? I know 90 of the days need to be within the last 3 years. But in general, what is the requirement to officially log all the days? Thanks!
What is the best size boat for doing this?
Ideally 35 to 40, we want to stay under 40 so our running costs don't sky rocket. Preferably something with a swim platform or walk through transom and sugar scoop for easy access into and out of the water. There are several vessels that fit the bill, jenneau, beneteau , hanse, Dufour, Catalina, hunter and so on all make great models for doing this as well as the ability to get you where you want to go
we love you msn no BS your legit
Thanks my man
I've never heard of a "Captain's 6-Pack License". I thought Captains tended to have beer bellies rather than 6-packs. And drinking 6-packs while boating is often a very bad idea.
Thank you so much for this!!
Can you explane if you can use this license out side of the US?
Yes, I will go into that shortly in the series, part two will be posted today and as I go further in depth I will cover how to do all of this outside the states, thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment
Does the 6 pack include the crew or just the passengers?
Do you have any idea for someone living in asia? Particularly southeast asia
I'm curious as to the requirements from the locals as far a business license, INSURENCE - not that we are a lawsuit happy society or anything, etc.. I use to live in the Caribbean, so I can make speculations, but that normally isn't smart ;-)
I am curious about a couple of things. First, what about local regulations? As a foreigner, on my boat in another country, am I allowed to make money with my vessel, or does this really work best in the Keys, the USVIs, and Porto Rico? Second, in order to do this, you will have to stay in one location for quite a while to be available for the tourists and to establish your business. That seems to be a little contrary to cruising, where you want to move from place to place. Third, how big a "referral fee" (not a kick back, never call it a kick back) do you offer to the bar? 10%? 15%? More?
I am on a live stream currently id be happy to discuss those questions further in depth if you would like to go to the live stream on my channel and ask
Is 6 pack respected in different countries like Bahamas or BVI ??
Depends on what shenanigans they are up to at the time, I will do a video on the current regulations regarding that as sometimes there are additional licenses you need
Do you have some siimilar idea for someone in Europe by any means? Mostly for the med, but maybe on the north as well. It would help a lot, this is a pretty good advice for someone who is a US citizen.
Yes 👍 Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. I am hoping that by the time I am done with the series everyone who watched will be able to have something to sustain their cruising lifestyle 😎 even if your are in the med ibwill go over several ways to make extra cash
@@ChasingLatitudes excellent, I was wondering about the equivalent things to captain six-packs for med and australia too. looking forward to the next in the series.
I gotcha 👌
You always can offer sailing adventures for a week or 2 week is 690 and up.
Great way to make money for sure. BUT... there always is one. What about taxes and all that? I'm sure besides expenses for the boat itself and the kickback for the bartenders the government will have their hand out also. I expect that the taxes or fees or whatever they label them are different depending on where you are doing this. What is the deal with that?
Depends heavily where you are located , in Puerto rico there are no taxes for act 22, and act 60, but I will cover that a bunch more in the next video. In simple terms LLC , EIN and simple accounting 👌 equals zero taxes just about any where. I will break it all down in the coming videos so it makes more sense and is easy to understand
Taxes will depend on where you are. :)
@@airborneranger-ret what is this taxes thing you speak of 🤔🤔😏
Going to have to ask during the live chat … what size boat for these gigs ?
55 min till stream, I can cover that for ya 😉 if I don't see ya there I will post my response here
And if I have a felony from 15yrs ago? And can't get a captains license? May do it anyways with out it. As I doubt the locals in thier jank boats doing this have licenses lol
Br
Wtf is that
Or in other words big brother wants to continue controlling you and making money off you to force licensing
To the first point, I am fine working for some one else if I'm sailing 🫡
