- This is me unboxing my brand new Makita 2012NB/2 Thicknesser Planer, 220v, 1650W, 304mm which I have just bought off Amazon, to replace the Titan planer that I had before. I also put a couple of bits of wood through it, flat and side on, to demonstrate a few aspects of it.
Useful video thanks. Waiting for delivery of mine
Glad it helped
Thanks for the review. Did the bin bag collect any chippings or do you need a proper collection bag?
Hi there, the bin bag was a complete disaster! Basically you need suction. Plain old gravity on its own isn't enough and it will bung up in seconds. I have an old "Henry the hoover" that I stick in to the outlet and start it going before I start any thicknessing and it works a treat.
@@craftingrob I did wonder if any chippings would make their way through or not! Do you just use gaffer tape to attach the Henry Hoover tube?
I use the hoover for all sorts of other machines as well so didn't want to attach with tape, so in the end I used a spring clamp to hold the nozzle in place. It isn't ideal as the hoover nozzle is so much smaller than the outlet on the Makita, but it catches 90% of the chippings, which is a good start :-)
@@craftingrob top tip. Thanks 👍🏻
Looking at the Titam you reviewed in a previous video, I assume the second one didn't work out, I am now swayed toward the Makita :)
Hi Kevin, the second one was OK, but I sold it on and upgraded to the Makita ... which was a BIG upgrade, both in terms of quality, but also money. I guess you get what you pay for!
Is it earthed, just a thought as only 2 pinned euro plug
Hi mine only came with a 2 pin plug, so no earth, but hopefully if you get the UK version, it will have an earth pin
