I hope this video helps those in need of a solution that is quick to discover without having to travel to a dealership.

Extremely helpful video and explanation with out any BS. My jeep was completely disassembled since 2014. I mean bare frame and body in storage in a field with a cover.
Its a total rebuild, and the ac was really fighting me. Thank You

    Tips from another Jeep wrench.
Get a vacuum pump and start at the manifold. pull (or try to) a vacuum on the HVAC line. If it holds vacuum, move to the inside. IE controls, switches, vacuum motors etc. If it does not hold vacuum, move to the junction closest to where it goes into the fire wall. If it now holds, your leak is somewhere before the fire wall. Basically, break the system down into sections as possible to pinpoint where the problem is. My 99 was leaking in the blend switch. Another issue I found was while accelerating, the AC would divert to the defrost vent only. I finally figured out that installing a vacuum check valve at/near the manifold solved the problem. While accelerating your vacuum drops allowing air doors to close/open due to the vacuum motors not having enough vacuum to hold them in the selected position. The check valve does not allow the vacuum to drop as the engine vacuum decreases. The HVAC system then continues along using the stored vacuum in the vacuum reservoir (Box in the right fender) until the engine vacuum comes back up and replenishes the system. Also a smoke generator is SOOOOO helpful for finding leaks! Look up automotive smoke tester, smoke generator etc. They are easy to make, do not cost much to make and quickly become a must have tool after you use it the first time! Speeds up repairs like you would not believe!

Going to check my 2000 TJ as I am just getting very minimum airflow. What floor liner do you have?

Thanks! I put raptor liner in my Jeep. I had a shop do it for me. It’s been about 8 months and it stands strong. No cracking or chipping.

Great, will check that out. Can I get the control box out without pulling the dash apart.

Yes you absolutely can. Look up on RUclips how to take off center bezel and you will have the easiest time of your life!

Sure helped, I found a tiny hose in the engine compartment broken, I pulled the rubber nipple off, took some tiny plyers and was able to get the broken piece out and shove the end of the good line in, I used rtv to make sure it doesn't come out as there is no barb on it. @@CodyHicks

My outside air vent sounds like it flaps back and forth or some vent while driving. Should I take out the whole dash.

    • @CodyHicks

Check the 3 solenoids under the dash and move them manually. Meaning listen and feel if the doors are opening up. Try this. If you were to take apart your dash, take tons of pictures, and be very patient, it can be longer than a days worth of work.
