Workshop Updates: DIY Large Wooden Sign & Wood Plank Shop Wall

- Hey friends! While I'm working on a new (amazing!) project to share, I wanted to give you an update on two projects I recently completed in my workshop.
One is a massive new wooden logo sign for my back shop wall. And the other is a SUPER EASY wood plank shop wall I can use for staging and backdrops for photos.
Both projects were made using the same wood planks. PureBond Plywood sent me a few boxes to try out and these are really easy to use for a wall or just to tack onto the side of a cabinet, to use to dress up a door, or to use (like I did here) to make a barn wood style wood sign.
The shop is 99% complete at this point and I hope you enjoy watching these finishing touches come together in this video.

Please leave the sign the way it is. This is why I love your channel because you are not afraid to show the mistakes you make and what you did to work around them. Your not afraid to show them unlike other channels or shows. I call them happy mistakes because the ones I make sometimes they turn out to be good mistakes and work out for the better.

I don’t think anyone would have seen the imperfection in the sign - I couldn’t even after you pointed it out. Don’t stress over nit-pickers - they just can’t help themselves. Great job!

The sign looks great 👍😀. One thing I have learned as a woodworker is no one will notice mistakes on my projects that seem glaring to me. Yesterday I gave my daughter a picture frame I made. She is the best at finding mistakes. She is super observant and could not anything wrong. I didn’t tell her where they were 😂. It’s hard to not point them out but It’s best not to.

That wood wall is beautiful. Clear coat for sure. That's what I did with the kitchen backsplash I showed you a little while back. The shop projects are fine additions your video collection. Keep them coming!

LOVE how the sign turned out and I can't tell the last letters are lower at all!!! The wood wall turned out great. If it were mine I would leave the natural wood and not paint it. Since you are a woodworker I think it's nice to have the natural wood showing. You could clear coat it with something to give some protection to the wood but still show off it's beauty.

I think you did an excellent job on the wood wall planks and the sign! If you had not mentioned it I would never have noticed that the lettering was sloping down on the sign. Thanks for sharing this and I am looking forward to your next tutorial.

Thank you! We are so grateful that we are all safe and we still have our homes. If it had been 50 yards off, it might have been a different story. It came right through my parent's backyard and it destroyed a lot of businesses and homes in our town. It's truly heartbreaking, but I'm so grateful we are okay.

Sign looks great. I don’t see any issues anywhere. And if there is something that is out of order, then that means it is “custom”. I like the idea of leaving the wall with natural look. Sealing is a good idea. I have seen plywood laminations deteriorate after time, just from moisture in the air. Keep up the good work.

I did not notice the sign either,looks great. But i would see about getting those garage door opener's hook up with power.
Loves the sign and wall. Add few drops of wood colour or stain in varnish when finishing the wall it will give bit of depth to it. Anyway it's my personal choice, as I like bit colour on the wood them plain one. As usual great project and thanks for sharing.

The sign imperfection must be very, very small, as even after you called my attention to it, I still don't see it much, if at all. That Cricket machine sounds like a cool option to have available. Everything came out great!
Thank you! It is very small and the only way you'd really notice it is to look at the lines between the boards. If it was solid and not planked, you'd never notice. But it is what it is and I still love it haha. I do also love having the Cricut available--I don't use it often, but when I need a stencil, it's really nice to have ready to just cut one out. Anyway, thanks so much for watching! I really appreciate it!
It all looks so great, love your sign! We had to handle 1x baseboard to 1950's door molding the exact same way.

I totally didn't notice the sign until you pointed it out so much. Also, it's not that the letters are too small they aren't big enough to fill the space of the sign.
I figured I'd point it out before anyone called it out haha. It's really not noticeable unless you look at the lines between the planks. But, I'm okay with it, so onto the next project! :)

Good job with it all. I like the sign too. And no worries about the letters, it happens to the best of us. I had a sign company (among my many businesses) and it's rarely ever perfect. I am interested in that Cricut thingsince it's been a long time since I had a full sized vinyl cutter. Looks like it might be a good fit for hobby or smaller scale stuff. Merry Christmas!

Hope you didn’t have any tornado damage at your place or at your parents. Maybe power will be restored soon. We had a lot high winds, lightening and heavy rain here in Middle Tennessee at our place last night. Thankfully, no tornadoes or damage. Other areas were hit here by the tornadoes that ripped through Kentucky. Take care of yourself.
Thanks so much. We are SO fortunate to have barely missed the tornadoes--we live outside of town. But there is LOTS of devastation right around my parents home and my hometown. It's just so heartbreaking. So many homes, businesses, landmarks, and buildings just gone. I'm glad your area didn't have anything too severe. Stay safe out there.

Can you do a video on the business side of things? Like pricing formula, business things to think about, stuff you didn’t know when starting but know now?
Hi! That’s a great idea. However my business is creating content…not selling products/projects. So I believe my model might be much different than most people are interested in.
