I see that you always use pocket hole screws, skeleton is made from timbre and panels are plywood. What is the reason for this approach? I know as much about woodworking as you know about Japanese language by the way.
Hi! It’s readily available lumber and easy to assemble joinery using minimal tools. So in this way, it is approachable to beginner and intermediate woodworkers.
@@WoodshopDiaries ok, I have been buying flatpack furniture for some number of years. This furniture is not designed to be dissasmbled and reassembled multiple times. Also, the use of certain type of nuts to hold it together makes it rather flimsy. For the furniture that you have designed so far, using the techniques that you have followed, is this furniture capable of being disassembled and reassembled multiple times? If not, what design techniques should be followed in that case? Also, do you always first create a detailed drawing in a CAD tool before starting the work?
As a furniture builder there are no unnecessary trim parts those design details are on us. Great job with the bathroom vanity. Awesome use of 2 light colored woods with different grain patterns. Thanks for sharing
So - since when are design details that make something look high-end "unnecessary"?😄 This looks great. I am soooo stealing your idea about just trimming the drawer fronts - it's always bugged me to put two perfectly good pieces of wood / ply on a drawer front - this idea is just gold. Thanks!
Haha I just knew if I didn’t explain, someone would ask why I put those pieces there 🤣 someone always does ha. I’m so glad you liked the design, though, unnecessary details and all! Thanks so much for watching!

The vanity turned out awesome! I would have never thought those 2 woods would match so nicely. Love how you did the drawer faces.....what a great idea! Thanks for all your tips along the way as to how to do things differently if a person doesn't have the same tools as you, etc. I always look forward to watching your video's!
Thank you so much! Honestly, I wouldn’t have thought they’d match so well either. I literally worried about it the entire build 🤣 it was a pleasant surprise haha. So, like Brewster said, design details aren’t unnecessary in the least. In theory, we could all build rectangular boxes and be done for functional purposes. The trim details matter the most when building furniture, imo. As a Trim Carpenter, I always make trim for my furniture and cabinet builds. But a few tips. Instead of leaving your glue to dry underneath your drawer trim, get a 23 gauge pin nailer. Pin nails are very small and will give you the ability to continue working as the glue dries. The vanity looks great and the finish really brings out the beauty in the wood! This was a very helpful tutorial on making a vanity. Thanks for sharing this.
The drawer face technique was brilliant actually. And you solved another problem for me: whoever built my kitchen cabinets used frameless hinges and just sort of left them "floating" where they didn't connect to anything. I don't know why it didn't occur to me to just put blocks behind them, but I was not looking forward to buying all new hinges!
So glad this was helpful! I've used this several times before and it works great--and allows you to use the cheaper frameless hinges because the hinges for face frames tend to be more expensive!
A beautiful double vanity! I really like you door frames! This is a great method and you produced a beautiful door. Your tablet is truly Remarkable…. Thanks for sharing another great project. Soon I will be building two single vanities for our mountain cabin and I’ll just cut this down. The removable base plate for plumbing access is too simple and ingenious! Beautiful furniture. You are a very handy lady and you make it looks very easy to build... but it is not! I am a beginner and I will try to use your technique and the hole idea for a similar piece of furniture. I hope it looks similar at the end. Thanks for sharing
I really appreciate that! My goal is always to make the process clear, simple, and easy to follow. So it's really encouraging that you said that! Thanks so much for watching :)
Your visual sense of style and design is very strong and the relative simplicity of construction is a great match! (Thus proving good design doesn't have to be complicated.) Keep it up! Edit: Ok...jaw dropped on the cabinet door "hack". How the heck did I miss this one!
The bathroom vanity looks great! I really like your design and all the extras you added to it. Nice use of scrap wood! Thank you for adding your design process too; for the most part I still used pencil and paper to do my design work.
Beautiful!! I really like the style of furniture you make. And the simple way to put them together. I'm looking forward on how your bathroom will be at the end!! I'm sure that it will be beautiful!! 🥰
Very nice! I bet it smells wonderful! I love the shaker style drawer fronts. Prefer those to the miter doors myself. But I like the hack! Thanks for the tip.
Good view, and I especially like the project. I tried that Rockler dowel jig, and the bit was very loose within the metal sleeve. It was so loose, it was very difficult to make holes that line up. I figured maybe I got the wrong drill bit.
Drawer front idea!! Brilliant👏 and spacer blocks for hinges ! I always struggle with knowing the right type of hinge to use. Great video Shara, final piece lovely as always beautiful work 😀
That reMarkable is really cool! One of these days we will remodel our bathroom, and it was nice to see how you framed yours. It looks great! Those were some serious 'shaker cheats' you did there on those doors and drawers😂
Shara, this vanity is beautiful. I love your design. It's going to be fun watching you redo your bathroom. Maybe, you and Sam will lead RUclips into an April "Do Your Bathroom" month. Thanks for the video.
Thank you so much!! I’m excited for the bathroom to be finished, but I’ll be honest, I’m dreading the process 🤣 I LOVE tiling (easy tile stuff…nothing complicated ha), but I HATE the prep work. We will see how it goes 😅 I’ve been enjoying watching Sam redo her bathroom 🙌 she’s got a head start on me though. I’m demoing next week 🙈 Anyway, thanks so much for watching. I appreciate you following along!
Thanks for the video ... another great project.... just wondering has your prices for lumber crazy ... where I'm at just for a 2x4x 8' Douglas is 9.49 .... I know I tell my customers " price pending on wood prices .... thank you for your and video
Oh yeah prices are ridiculous here as they are every where. Standard 2x4x8 construction lumber (pine/spruce/fir) boards are about $8-9 here depending on where you buy them. 😩😩
Thank you! I thought I could put it up for the winter, but we had another cold snap hit our area so I brought it back out 🤣 I’m glad it could make another appearance before the warm weather 😂
Dang Shara, I never thought I’d see you doing a “topless” video!…much less RUclips allowing you to post it! Of course, since I didn’t catch any new “words are hard” moments, I guess I can always count on you to still make it awkward somehow!! All jokes aside, I really like this project, from the removable bottoms to avoid the nasty water, to the extra, unnecessary pieces for visual design. Trust me, not everything has to have a structural purpose. At least that’s the type of logic I use when trying to explain away this tiny, tiny, tiny bit of extra chunk I carry around on my belly! 😂 🤣 🤪
I did edit out a words are hard clip. Some day I’ll make a blooper reel of all the ones I took out of videos. 🤣 but yes, you can always count on me to make something awkward…it’s a talent I’m proud to possess 😅😅 I’m glad you liked the design, unnecessary parts and all! 🙌 I always appreciate you following along and your hilarious comments. Have a great weekend and thanks for watching!
Shara, when I saw you didn't put a video up last week I knew you were working on something very special. You DID NOT disappoint!. This video is packed full of information. So much so that I'm going to have to watch it again so I can soak up as much as my limited brain can adsorb. I had to laugh at the cat taking a wide path around your project in the background. At great risk I'm going to share this project with my Wife! Thanks for Sharing!
I’m falling behind…I can’t keep up with the once a week schedule anymore 😅 so I try to make them good ones when they do get posted haha. I’m so glad you enjoyed this one. I was so excited to share it and even more excited to get it installed…eventually. Feel free to watch as many times as you’d like 😉🤣 I love hearing that you found it helpful! Thanks for watching! Ps that cat…he’s always into something 🤦🏼♀️ he’s my favorite but he’s pure trouble haha.
I love your design, and the video is very instructive. I would like a nice table saw, to be able to do quality cuts. What kind do you have? Is there one you would recommend for a DIY person?
Yeah, that loss was disappointing. But that’s part of the madness of March I guess. There’s always next year, but they’re in a new conference now, so may be pretty tough to even get to the tournament now haha. Who knows. Anyway, thanks so much for watching! Maybe you can build a vanity to replace the new one one day 😉😄
I am a big fan of your design style. Your furniture looks simple an elegant. I have an alcove about 4.5ft wide in my den, and i'd like to do a built-in for that space. You have something like this planned in the near future? Your closet video came few weeks i did mine and i wish i was late on that project 🤣
Thanks so much! I love keeping things simple…as you can probably tell haha. I don’t have specific. Plans for anything in a 4 1/2’ alcove planned 😅 but I do have some built ins planned for this year…or next depending on how long a lot of my other “to dos” take haha. Built in pantry, built in bathroom cabinets, built in closet in hallway. Not sure if any of these would be helpful though. I’m sure whatever you do will turn out amazing! 🙌
An 18 or 16g cordless nailer would be a good addition to your arsenal of tools... I thought that as I watched you juggle the mitred drawer front trim... 😬 Putting glue on end-grain isn't great ... unless you maybe use epoxy... pva will certainly not work too well... I liked the T & G you used for the door frames & the dowels work well... Another tool you could invest in is a biscuit joiner, though some love 'em & some hate 'em... I'm with Norm Abrams (New Yankee Workshop, yer probably too young to remember it but his TeeVee series are really worth watching..) on this one... I love my biscuits, great for aligning pieces with each other whilst also having a little (or large if u want) wiggle-room along the length... Nice project... turned out great ! 🤗 From the Emerald Isle 😎👍☘🍺
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I have both nail guns, but just didn’t want to deal with covering nail holes on the trim 👍 Also, the wood glue on the butt joints is in addition to the pocket hole. Together, in my experience, they work great. I definitely wouldn’t use glue alone for this. Also, I know who Norm is, but I’ve never seen the show 😅 I’m sure it’s great. Thanks again for watching 👍
Hi Shara! Thisis a baeutiful vanity! Thank you very much for sharing the building process with us. How many hours would you say did you need to complet the project? I'm asking to know if we have time to build one four our house. Thank you and I can't wait to see the next project you are going to take!
Thank you! It’s always impossible to calculate how long it would take to build something. I work on multiple projects at once, so I don’t know how many hours I spent on this one in particular. But everyone will build at different speeds and mistakes always happen, so any guess is just going to be a very rough estimate. That said, I don’t really know as I didn’t time it. I’m sorry I’m not more help with that.
Awesome video! I love that vanity! Might be my favorite piece of yours so far : ) I cringe every time you cut something and then just wipe it off bare handed lol! I would get so many splinters doing that. Good job as always. I can't wait to see the whole bathroom when you are done, as well as the vanity top installed : )
Would it be possible to alter this plan using available wood sizes since I don’t have a table saw? I have a circular saw and a kreg Rip-cut to make long cuts.
I didn’t really figure it exactly. I’d say roughly $300 - $350. The cedar was expensive so it could definitely be made cheaper using pine/spruce. But of course, lumber prices vary greatly by location so your cost may not equal mine. I’ve provided a materials list in the video description you can use to figure prices for materials in your area to determine approx cost.

Anyway, thanks so much for watching. I appreciate you following along!
looks great 😍
Thank you!! 💕
I can't wait to get my tools in the shop!! Great build.
Yes!!! Happy building! 🙌🔨🔨
Hello Morris around time mark 15:00. Cool cat
Haha that’s our trouble maker! His name is Bubby but we call him a million names 🤣 he’s always into something and getting cat hair on everything ha.
It is absolutely gorgeous. Great job and thanks for sharing! I love your content. ❤️
I appreciate that! Thank you for watching! 😊
Beautiful workpiece 👍
Thank you so much!!
I always enjoy your videos.
I’m glad to hear it. I truly do appreciate that!
Nice project i liked it so much 😊
Thanks so much! I appreciate you watching!
It looks so good and o love the sock monkey hat~ 😄
Thank you! I thought I could put it up for the winter, but we had another cold snap hit our area so I brought it back out 🤣 I’m glad it could make another appearance before the warm weather 😂
Absolutely amazing work!
you are such an inspiration. are you self taught ?? wish i can build just like you
Love this so much! Great job!
Love the out of the box thinking.... making life and the job more simple than overly complicated. Awesome job! Plus nice legs as always 👌🏻
🤣 but yes, you can always count on me to make something awkward…it’s a talent I’m proud to possess 😅😅
I’m glad you liked the design, unnecessary parts and all! 🙌 I always appreciate you following along and your hilarious comments. Have a great weekend and thanks for watching!
Apesar de não entender muito do que você fala, eu tenho muito prazer em assistir aos seus vídeos, não canso de assisti-los. 😘
Totally awesome
Thanks so much!
Cool idea for the removable floor to the cabinets. But, it begs the question: Why do you clean your P-traps?
Thanks! P traps get clogged up with gunk and ha ir so we clean them out regularly to keep the drains from slowing.
Looks very nice❤
You are awesome. I love this vanity.
Great build
Hello, great video..!!! (there is no link for the "clamps" (pliers) with elastic bands... Where did you get them? (7:07)
I love your design, and the video is very instructive. I would like a nice table saw, to be able to do quality cuts. What kind do you have? Is there one you would recommend for a DIY person?
Sorry about the Racers not going further in the tournament but it was a great season. I bought a vanity a while back. Knew I should have waited ha
Yeah, that loss was disappointing. But that’s part of the madness of March I guess. There’s always next year, but they’re in a new conference now, so may be pretty tough to even get to the tournament now haha. Who knows.
Anyway, thanks so much for watching! Maybe you can build a vanity to replace the new one one day 😉😄
Very extraordinary build. I would like to try and build one
You got this! Happy building :)
I'm still trying to figure out the best way to build this , but as a single sink size. And it looks as good as your double sink size.
An 18 or 16g cordless nailer would be a good addition to your arsenal of tools... I thought that as I watched you juggle the mitred drawer front trim... 😬
Putting glue on end-grain isn't great ... unless you maybe use epoxy... pva will certainly not work too well...
From the Emerald Isle
😎👍☘🍺
Thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the video!
I have both nail guns, but just didn’t want to deal with covering nail holes on the trim 👍
Also, the wood glue on the butt joints is in addition to the pocket hole. Together, in my experience, they work great. I definitely wouldn’t use glue alone for this.
Also, I know who Norm is, but I’ve never seen the show 😅 I’m sure it’s great.
Thanks again for watching 👍
Wow really Nice. Gratulation 👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much! I appreciate you watching!
@@WoodshopDiaries love to watch your Videos. Mfg from Austria
I’m sorry I’m not more help with that.
in my opinion things we built for ourselves don't have anything "unnecessary" on them and when it looks that good I would say well done..
Haha that’s true! It’s necessary if I made it for me and I wanted it there 🤣 good point! Thank you so much for watching. I appreciate it!
Loving your videos! Do you know a rough estimate on wood cost a project like this would be?
Brilliant ya did it again 💚💚☘️🙏
Thanks so much! So glad you enjoyed it!
Another great video.
Thanks so much for watching! So glad you enjoyed it 🙌
Ficou lindo, parabéns!
Já estou curioso para ver a parte de cima, como será? 🇧🇷
Nice.. very detailed
Would it be possible to alter this plan using available wood sizes since I don’t have a table saw? I have a circular saw and a kreg Rip-cut to make long cuts.
Red cedar slab top would be awesome
Do you have a sense of how much this cost to make? I know vanities are expensive .... so I'm always interested in net cost savings. Excellent work!!
