Even better, when Greta explains how the first pairing we see in the beginning is the couple we expect to see at the end (love story format) ... Jo is at the door of the publisher in the beginning and seeing her book made at the end. It is the love story of a woman and her career!
It's such a good film. Exactly what you guys said its sooo good. I use to watch loads cinema but I stopped and this film really got me. Brilliant film :)
LOOK i know people say shes overrated and of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion but GOD i think shes such a genuis. I love the way she talks about writing and the overwhelming passion she has. This adaptation (to me) is something special and will stay with me forever.
I didn't know a thing about Greta Gerwig. When I first watched Lady Bird it shook me to my core. Often I've found people writing women as "women" (with all the baggage they associate with womanhood) or as "men but not men" (stripping them of pathos and female trauma completely). Greta shows womanhood so differently. LB made me an instant fan and she is the only reason why I rushed to watch this film. It was really nice to hear her take on the technicality of writing!
The "girl gets book" moment had me crying harder than I have cried in a movie in years, to the point where it was embarrassing. I have wanted to be a writer my entire life and 2019 was really rough for me creatively, so that ending was deeply cathartic
There are rumours about her and the "Barbie" movie along with her husband Noah Baumbach. She's so amazing and delicate, always taking a deep look at humanity that I am certain she's going to deliver.
I love that Greta told the stories of the sisters too. Almost all the adaptations just focus on Jo and her story. I also really love the blending of the author and the story in this version as well. It's such a beautiful nod to Alcott herself.
the way that seeing laura dern cry during beth's death scene again on this video made me cry on sight just shows how emotional and raw this movie is i wanna watch it again so bad
Little Women was my favorite film from last year and also the best experience I had in the cinema, too. I had a massive grin the whole way through and saw it two times back to back, Greta's definitely the one to look out for.
What's she's saying about the fixation on a romantic interest based on the order in which the characters are introduced is so true, yet I haven't really noticed it before Greta pointed it out. Amazing.
@@TishaMae bruh then why are u here, did u not watch the video of her explaining all the new things she brought to it ahh. anyways, this is just my opinion and its fine if you disagree, but this film was absolutely needed. first of all, I didn't even know other little womens even EXISTED until this. second, this film is what got me into movies and gerwig insppires a whole new generation to be a writers/directors so
The delivery of the lines was something I especially noticed! The other movies had them all delivery it the same way but this was so real and genuine, the sisters acted like sisters and argued and screamed and interrupted each other. It felt so special.
It's so great to hear Greta talk about the slash! Oh, the mighty slash! Kevin Kerr and Sarah Delappe also use the slash and other techniques to make dialogue feel more natural and fast paced - asterisks and multiple columns also help. I think movie and tv writers could learn so much from playwrights, and I'm so glad Greta Gerwig is borrowing techniques like these
The genius of this version is the non linear timeline. The difference really is in meeting Laurie with Amy because it does validate their eventual marriage as it not only adheres to that rule of film that the first boy or girl that meet are the one they should end up with, even if that isn't at all how real life goes, but one of the very first things Laurie says is that he is not sorry Jo turned him down so that also validates him marrying Amy. Every aspect of this film fixed or addressed the problems I've had with other adaptions and if another wants to outdo this one then it will have to do something pretty damn impressive because as it stands right now, Greta Gerwig's Little Women is the definitive version.
Both of her films have absolutely inspired me, broke me down, made me cry. I have long loved the 90's version of Little Woman as a family favorite, as well as the book. But holy shit her version. I watched it near christmas with my mom and younger sister and while I held my tears in as best I could, I sobbed later that night not out of sadness but out of just pure elation at how beautiful it felt to have emotions I've felt explained on screen in a way I hadn't experience before. I think she is a genius, people can say what they wanna say but she is literally leading the way for female filmmakers.
I am so in love with Greta Gerwig's intelligence and passion that she has for her art form. I genuinely hope everyone finds that same passion for whatever they pursue, because my god it's beautiful
This movie took my breath away... It made me nostalgic in a way that broke my heart. I cried at so many of the themes in this movie! It was also GORGEOUS i mean i wanna live there! The way it ended was so brilliant :) Greta is a GEM !
I mean, my hatred for Professor B is as much a part of me as my love for writing (thanks to Jo!) is a part of me ...so I'm *never* going to not hate that character but Greta Gerwig's retelling of him did make him less awful for me. I also love the technique used for updating the dialogue and the framing of the story around Beth's death and everything else basically!
As someone who has now spent all of her life trying to be better at writing than she was the day before, I hope I can be half the creative talent she is.
She is very dedicated to narratives. Is very rare to find an actor/writer/director. Usually, a filmmaker is two of them, or even one. But she is great at all of them, she is a genius of representation :)
Everything I picked up from this movie but couldn’t put into words... she is extraordinary, this movie couldn’t be better. GG! Slow clap!!! Hence, every reviewer of the film who spoke with authority about the timeline of TLW she made is so confusing simply did not understand and observed how it’s splices of events moving forward. She may or may not won many awards but I hope she keeps doing her craft.

This resonates, especially about not losing your creative ideas during the writing process. How? I don't yet know - battling the same issue.

"That the character whose says most clearly what she wants is the one we hated for so long" - ouch why I feel attacked and why Greta is a genius
