This was so so useful!! I'm going to madrid for a language course during Sept and then au pairing part time until December and can't wait to explore!! and I must check that library for those guys ;) thank you so much for all the tips!!! xx
serena travels OMG YOU ARE TOO FUNNY!!! Thank you so much!!! I am so excited for your journey and I hope you have a complete blast!! Let me know if you have any more questions!
Ah this video making me sad about the fact i might not be able to study abroad next year😭 thank you for great tips tho! Did you have any favorite clubs to go out to?
Oh I so hope you get the chance to study abroad! Favorite clubs in Madrid were Kapital, Fucking Mondays (yes, that is really the name), and Colonial Norte (this was a far more local club and was a BLAST!).
Im going to study in Madrid in January!!! This video was so helpful!! Where did you stayed in the city? Mi looking for a room in centro (malasaña, emabajadores lavapies, chueca, sol) but I dont know de City... where do you recommend staying? Also, can you make a video ranking your trips around europe and your recommendations? Thanks!
OH MY GOODNESS I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU!! (and a little jealous lol!) I stayed right by Plaza de España with a host family! I lived North West right on calle de san bernadino. You really can't go wrong in Madrid but a few places I would recommend are Malasaña (hip, good food, shopping, super cute neighborhood), Anywhere around Plaza de España or Gran Via, Lavapies was really quant, areas around Retiro Park are also lovely! I had a few friends live in Sol and loved it. I also had a few friends like close to the metro stop Moncloa and they really liked it as well!! I will definitely try to make that video! :)
Sara! Great video!! Awesome tips. And I have to know where you bought the quilted black fanny pack. I have to have one! One for me and one for my daughter who is thinking about University in Greece. Thank I you.
Hello ! Great video ! Would you make one on the admission process? I really want to study abroad but I’m really scared & stressed about the admissions process! I greatly appreciate it
It is hard to speak on the admissions process! I went to SLU in the US and had a more or less automatic entry into SLU Madrid! As far as the admissions to get into SLU in general, your college essay is the most important! But don't be too stressed about it! Just apply!
Hi Sara! I’m from the Philippines but I want to study Master of Laws in Madrid this year. Is it easy to make friends there? Do you feel safe meeting new people in another country? Also, how do you cope with homesickness? ¡Muchísimas gracias! 💖
Hi Maria! How exciting!! I found it very easy to meet new friends in Madrid! Look through the website CityLife Madrid and they have a bunch of groups you can join where you can meet new people. Also, you will meet a lot of people through university! I went on Tinder dates in Madrid LOL so maybe not the best idea but I felt safe there! I would say if you do the CityLife Madrid thing, there are so many people in a group that it is very safe. Honestly, I was SO BUSY in Madrid that I didn't miss home that much but being with American friends helped the most. You will do great!
Great video, i am going to study abroad in Madrid next year. I have one question regarding the telephone subscription - which did you choose with SIM card etc.
So exciting! I actually did not get a SIM card because my phone was still locked and I couldn't switch SIM cards. I went without a new phone plan and just used WIFI the whole time. It worked but I would NOT recommend. Definitely check with your phone provider to see what international options they have and if your phone is locked or not.
Do you mind if I ask how the admissions process was? Like is it hard to get in? Do you interview? Letters of recommendation, CV, and how long did it take to get accepted?
Hiya quick question, when you say it’s nice to be on a guest list when going out, you mean the clubs? Do you call ahead of time and have them put your name on a list or is it cause you’re a frequent visitor? Much love
Hi! So while I was studying abroad, there are big group chats you can join that send out information for clubs in Madrid (check out City Life Madrid). They put your name on the guest list. It is not necessary to get into the club; however, it speeds up the process significantly!
Hello I’m Bambi.I’m going to be studying at the European university of Madrid this September hopefully. But I’ve been hearing a lot of negative comments about the university,do you perhaps happen to know anything or anyone in that university?Thank you.
Im an advertising major at Temple University. Im hoping to do the SLU program in Madrid, however Advertising isnt generally offered. Would I be able to do Gen Ed courses at the SLU location regardless?
I go to SLU and am going to SLU madrid next semester! I’m pretty sure you need to check with your uni if the credits will transfer. I’m doing almost exclusively gen ed’s next semester as a HR Management major w minors in acct and btm, so it’s def possible, just check with your academic advisor what will transfer!
I did all gen ed classes when I was at SLU Madrid. I did go to SLU so it was easy to transfer credits over. Although, there were students from Gonzaga and Vanderbilt at SLU Madrid and they had no issues transferring their credits over!
i am actually spanish but i lived in morocco since i was 5, i have spanish passeport and stuff and i want to study in a university there this year, is studying there free? and what about the campus? also, i forgot spanish :( i'd appreciate the help♥️
Hey! How exciting! So studying is not free, sadly. The campus is small but absolutely adorable and has everything you could ever need. The campus encourages you to get out into the city!! No worries on the spanish, as long as you can say hi, order something, and ask where the bathroom is, you should be good!
@@thepassionatebeing3691 My school was completely taught in english! There are a lot of American universities and some of the spanish schools still speak english!
Heyyyy thankyouu so much for this video it’s really helpful but I was wondering if it’s mandatory to speak Spanish in order to study in Spain especially that I’m going to be applying for med school so I’m really lost and I don’t know what to do. And if it is substantial for me to speak Spanish then to what level of proficiency exactly?
Hey there! This is a very late reply however it depends on the school and the program! My school was entirely in English so I didn't have to speak spanish at the university. Definitely ask admissions what language requirements they have!! Although I will say that speaking some level of Spanish in Madrid will go a very long way when navigating.
SO SAFE!!!! I honestly felt significantly safer everywhere (well just about everywhere hahaha) in Madrid than I did on SLU's STL campus. I'm from STL so I am used to being on alert but Madrid was a whole new world of feeling safe for once!
Great question! It's hard to say but I felt like 50-60% of students were American and 40-50% were international students. Beyond that breakdown, I felt like there were people from ALL over the world and across the US.
The campus has residences that it partners with where college kids live. It isn't a "SLU residence" and it isn't on campus. The campus is really three different buildings that are spread out over a block ish.
Going to study in Madrid this semester! I'm pretty scared haha. This video really helped me thank you!!!!
