It's really not that difficult getting away with crimes, and most criminals are pretty stupid - that leads to both of those things being true in real life all the time, too. Most homicides go unsolved. Most solved homicides are either done by relatives or opportunistic heat of the moment things that leave witnesses. Unfortunately, crime shows on tv aren't really that true to life. Not Dexter, either, I'm just saying.
@@hiTocopter A lot of homicides go unsolved but not most, around 40% according to fbi crime statistics. And most of what I’m talking about has to do with specific actions dexter takes that you just wouldn’t do that way in real life. Casing a house or following someone are far more difficult to pull off than is shown. More than anything though it’s the rate at which dexter performs really reckless actions connected with his crimes that would eventually get him caught. Following people from about 20 feet for long distances, having conversations in full view of the police....sure he could conceivably do these things a couple times but he makes the same mistakes over and over again. I get that shows like these need for the world to be simplified in order to tell the story they want to tell but some of this stuff is just laughable.

"We are what we are." *Dexter thinks about what he says for a second, goes back to table. "By the way, I meant you're a pedophile and I'm a serial killer. We both can't change because our psyches are broken. That's what I meant. Sorry about the confusion."
I'm really hoping they used that finale so they could come back and revisit the show later on, but personally I didn't think it was a terrible ending, the alternative ones they had written in the script were 3x worse.
@Jonathan King If you're already intrigued, the first season is some of the best TV you'll watch. Do watch that at the very least. Most of the show is very good. But first season is exceptional. I knew what I was getting into, but he creeped me out the second he dropped the act. Michael C. Hall is incredible in this role.
Tuff Teddy they ruined the show waaaay before the last season, after season 4 the show became a joke, dexter was killing people inside the airport and in a middle of a golf court during the day 🙄🙄🙄 show became stupid. Still last 2 season were the worst thing ever.
DMAD The “worst thing ever” really? Were the last two seasons of Dexter really worse than the Holocaust, the Bosnian Genocide and Stalin’s 30 year reign of terror? Are you sure this is the best description for two seasons of a great tv series which you believe at not as good as the earlier seasons?
When you watch Six Feet Under and then this, you realize just how good Michael C Hall really is. Halfway through season 1 I was less than convinced that he was more than a pretty boy and the role could have been played by anyone. By this episode, I've changed my view. I'm still confused by Dexter's flippant change in sex drive, but I guess most people watching think I'm a prude. I'm more than happy with tits (in this show, SMALL ones), but this is so well written in every other area.
ouch, this comment is really old, but i agree with the sex drive part. I love dexter but i remember that detail bothering me the first time i watched it years ago, and people barely talk about it online. I believe I wrote a little analysis on it? (or how it's not uncommon for things like that to happen to certain characters in media/television to signify them getting "emotions" because. ""these cold hearted people are becoming more human so now they want to have sex"". I hate that trope.)
@@javierapuga1338 You know at first I thought Dexter just had a sexual awakening later in life - it is possible, but now that you mention it- it does seem like more of a trope. Like a protagonist can't be relatable unless they're sexual. I can imagine the execs saying we can't have a character that doesn't have sex(extreme violence is fine, but asexuality is 'twisted' lol). It is annoying, then again I think it allowed for some entertaining scenarios. Like Dexter juggling being a father, husband and serial killer. Even how he became more territorial and aggressive in this scene because he had people completely innocent and pure to protect. It adds an interesting element in comparison to the lone serial killer character. Cool that you responded to a comment you made 9 years ago lol
Like Dexter got more clever at not being caught, same with the other guy / pedos. They never change... all they do is become better at staying undetected.
I think it would be a better idea for Dexter to set the guy up and get him sent to jail and bribe people to get him put in a cell with Fleece Johnson AKA The Booty Warrior.
Doesn’t seem like this guy - but there are ways people can change a lot. There are examples of brain tumors up against specific people arts of the brain causing behavior like this to suddenly onset later in life, which then totally vanish after removal. Which of course brings up the challenging question of - what are “they” responsible for. Or someone like this or Dexter who may be born or induced into similar brain abnormalities - such that it’s not really their “fault”. But then again personal accountability for one’s actions.
I only recently learned that the series is based on books. They veered away from the books after the first season or so and even then, they were a bit different, but in the first book, two of the bad guys that Dexter is hunting, one of them is a molester and one of them is a photographer for that molester, I wonder if this dude was based on that guy in the book.
I've always wondered what made people this way. I've always thought maybe it was a genetic thing. I lived in the south for 15 years and it is filled with nothing but child predators. There is also a lot of inbreeding in the south so maybe that is the cause of it?. Thats always been my theory.
Only thing I wish I could change was the “we are what we are line” I know what Dexter was saying to the guy but he made it seem like he had the impulses as him.
¿Alguien puede traducir del español la letra de la canción que Anton le dedicó a Debra? O simplemente escribe la letra de esta canción en español. Can someone translate the words of the song that Anton dedicated to Debra from Spanish? Or just write the words of this song in Spanish.
This was kind of weird the whole essence of the show is that dexter is a psychopath and a serial killer showing random emotions towards kids is so unlike his character.
Dude he is sociopath, and sociopaths have someone they care about, mostly family members. Unlike psychopath they literally don't care about anyone other than themselves. They are legit narcissist, and can show emotions that a normal person can. They are very manipulative and most of the time, have a very high IQ.
I love how in the dexter universe it is both absurdly easy to get away with crimes and mind numbingly simple to crack cases.
