Claudia Dean Coaching please can you do a video on how to get your arabesque to above 90° and how to strengthen your legs so you can hold your leg up in a grande ronde jambe en l'air?
As a *non* *flexible* *adult* who lost flexibility in quarantine I *can* *confirm* that all of theses stretches will help you improve and all you need to do is take your time, maybe you don’t have to go over 20 seconds each time and just be patient. It will help immensely.
Hi so I learned the splits In less than a year so I'm gonna give you some tips! 1. Try the splits slowly I know it will hurt but it's worth it trust me! 2. Do the butterfly go as far to the floor as you can! 3. Stay healthy your diet really effects your strength and durability to hold the splits or and flexibility based pose are whatever you want to do!!! When do I do these? How long? Evey morning right after you wake up and right before bed everyday hold the poses for as long as you can but don't kill yourself in the process! 😓 Wish you the best!
I've been doing this for 7 months now, and my mom caught me in my room doing these..Next week, she surprised me with lessons! I'm so greatful for this video, honestly..thank you.
Claudia, good evening, I like your channel, but you could challenge yourself to demonstrate your technique with less skilled students. For it seems all too easy, when your students are young, flexible, strong and virtuous, which is not the case for many people who study ballet.
Great. I like the emphasis on stability in the hamstrings stretch. Perhaps you can make another video along the lines of "how to get flexible if you are not able to do splits" :) I think the extensions series is a good start for that already, however, and will consider this as part 3. Consider working with someone as a demo who is not able to do splits yet. That will highlight specific challenges and ways to overcome them.
I totally agree! I work on my own so often, and I catch myself doing things like not keeping my hips square or the like. I think it would be really helpful to see her working with a beginner / intermediate flexible person and see her corrections that she applies!
Leonid Knyshov one of my ballet teachers thought that they way to learn how to do splits was just to be manually forced into one. To her credit, I never lost my flexibility after her. I feel better in most stretching or yoga positions.
I learnt ballet for three years, the second year I was super flexible but now I can’t even do a middle split without hurting my legs Edit: I can do both now.
Jane Holgate well I've done ballet for 13 years and still can't do them (I did have all three but then I broke my arm and only had my left then broke my foot around 2 years ago and I haven't had any since) I'm still trying really hard tho and I'm getting closer xx
Jayla Spivey I disagree. I only started dancing when I was 9, in 4th grade, and I was able to get all three of my splits down within a year. When I turned 10, I was already way more flexible than all of the dancers in my classes, most of which have been dancing since they were around 2. Keep in mind the fact that I’m not naturally flexible, it took a lot of hard work, but eventually I got all three of them down. The key to getting the splits is not how well you do them, it’s how much. Doing them for a couple minutes everyday, or honestly even every other day is enough. And make sure that you keep on stretching even after you get the splits. A lot of my dance friends had the splits but then lost them cause they never practiced. So yea, if you work hard enough, you’ll eventually get them, it might take some time, but the results are definitely worth it. Being flexible is really a huge advantage when it comes to dance. For me, I have higher grande battlements (a type of kick,) bigger leaps, etc.
@@jessicad5938 First off, you were child of 9 and growing children are naturally more flexible. Not everyone starts dance young. Second, if you started at age 9 and were more flexible than people who had six years of training on you within a year, you are naturally flexible to begin with. There ARE people that CANNOT do splits, period. It has something to do with their bodies. Just as some people are hyper flexible, others extremely inflexible. There is a limit to how far training can get these people and for some that means never being able to do splits.
Mimi C I was thinking the exact same thing and I felt really bad for her. Her and I are probably around the same age so I can’t imagine getting injured so young and not being able to dance especially because I’m a competitive dancer.
it could be to protect her wrists. At least in breakdancing they always want you to put weight on the base of your fingers instead of the heel of your palm. it distributes the weight more widely
For those of you saying that this girl's already flexible yes she is, the number one thing I was taught in dance and still have to use as don't compare yourself to others just because a certain person is flexible does it mean that everyone Well be. If you do these exercises to at least what you're able to do each and every day you'll see drastic measures changed in your flexibility you also have to at least take yoga and pilates to do this to stay fit and much more, Don't use the I'm not flexible excuse you got to at lest try it , it's doing to hurt I'm not going to lie to you all .
I couldn't touch my toes at first, but like Claudia said, just keep doing it, and your legs will kinda get numb and you'll be able to touch your toes. I wasn't able to touch my toes like five minutes ago, but now I can. It really works! 💙
Thanks Claudia. At 35 years I have started ballet dancing again, I go 5 times a week for 2 hours, and thanks to you I can improve at home and have an impressed teacher with my fast improvements. And btw, your cardio video has become my daily morning work out. Thank you for helping me grt back to a great level! 💪👍😁
Great video. I am a dancer and self taught gymnast. I am quite flexible but lately I was starting to lose some of my flexibility skills like splits and needle.
Can you do tutorials for adults just starting ballet? That would be absolutely amazing, and would totally round out your channel. I know there’s a lot of us adults out there that have always wanted to study/dance ballet as a child but circumstances prevented that. Having an amazing instructor like you motivating us and teaching us would mean so much!
Thank you Claudia! As a fellow dance teacher, I appreciate the tips you give so I can help my students dance properly AND safely! Keep the videos coming!
I know this is for dancers, but I still love this channel and learning about ballet as a rhythmic gymnast. To me these stretches seem incredibly simple compared to our trainings😅 I know ballet doesn't require as much flexibility, but our teachers are like RIGHT GET YOUR 2 CHAIRS, YOUR LEGS SHOULD BE 270° AND OVER. BEND BACK SARAH! YOUR BUN SHOULD BE UNDER YOUR HIP! NO HANDS! 5 MINUTES! It's crazy to me that you aren't forced into oversplit every training😂 I don't have as much strength though, I'm working on it...
Flexibility is necessary as you get into more advanced training. It's not necessary when learning the basics because that's mainly learning technique, but after that it absolutely is necessary for when you're trying to get high extensions and work on ability.
Totally... always do the less flexible side and hold for at least 3 minutes.. or work up to three minutes plus because the muscle fascia will only stretch after 3 minutes.. usually. Yoga stretches offer balance in the body.. eg you want your hamstrings to be as flexible as your Quads..
It's definitely not true that you need 3 minutes. If anything, 3 minutes is a very long period which can overstretch and hurt you. Most asanas in Ashtanga yoga are held for just 5 breaths. Basically, these passive stretching techniques shown here are not healthy. The stretching should come not from gravity/weight or someone else applying force, but from active reaching movement and be paired with strength training of the supporting muscles (which is the case in properly executed yoga or contortion exercise). Of course, ballet/dance teachers don't really care, and the students end up injured fairly often.
Wow Claudia! You sound so much like my teacher! She was trained in Australia back in the 80s or 90s and these exercises are what she taught us in class too! It really helps my flexibility. Thanks Claudia
I think you are so kind! because in korea some ballet teachers are so scary... I wish korean ballet teacher be kind,,! ( please understand.. i'm not good at English..)
I'm definitely going to take some of the tips! I had no idea that its better to take the weight off of your hip flexor during trhe lunge stretch! Also, I'd only been doing my stretches, 10-25 seconds! I'm definitely going to hold for at least a minute form now on! I've been fighting for my splits forever, and I'm almost at my right splits :)
It's so sad that almost everybody in my family is flexible but there kids and I'm just saying that I getting put in dance class when I go to Atlanta for the summer and I think I'm being put in ballet class and my cousin has been doing since she was 2 come on I will never be flexible😔😔😭😓
Of course you will be flexible ! It may take alot of time to attend your cousin's level and you may never be a professional dancer but gaining flexibility is NOT something impossible and really difficult !
Don’t give up! I remember last time when I was 9, I could do the splits in two weeks. But, now, I’m 11 and I haven’t practiced for so long since 2016 and it took me 1 year to get them back
holding the splits longer really helps... I started feeling my musles loosening up and basically slid right into them after only 5 minutes of stretching!!
Why are people acting like the student can control how flexible she is? It doesn't matter that she's already flexible anyway; it's just a demonstration.
Thanks! this video is super helpful! Can you do a video on HypO extension (the opposite of hyper extension) because I get the correction to straighten my knees a lot but I physically can't, its so frustrating!
It's so annoying for me as well, I don't have that problem with my knees, I don't know how to explain, it's like...when I stand in parallel my knees have a bump on the inside and because of that, when I stand in 3rd position it looks like they are bent but they aren't, my teacher tells me to straighten them when I'm trying as hard as I can!!
Your channel is inspiring me to get back into dancing, and as it's been 12 years, stretching is the starting line. This is so helpful and fairly easy, I am going to incorporate all these into my daily stretching, building a whole routine out of it. Thanks for being such a good teacher!
I was flexible when I was younger, but when I started to get older (around 10 to 12 I guess), I noticed that I was getting less flexible. I do my stretches every day and I've been improving a lot. When I found this video, this will really help me out
OMG OMG OMGGGGGGGGG! IM SO HAPPY!!!!!! I LUV YOU SO MUCH LITERALLY! I CAN KNOW DO THE SPLITS, IM WHY CLOSE ON IT!!!!!!!!! :D YOU KNOW HOW HAPPY AND JOY I AM NOW? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I love ballet and Im sure that Yoga is a perfect teacher, further of geting flexible or knowing about your possition without any mirror. It is a way of life that can help you grow and reach your real goals. Peace & Love
You've done it again Claudia! I swear I'm literally the least flexible person ever 😂 this will really be helpful in preparation for our upcoming show next weekend :) Thanks again 💗💗
OMG THIS VIDEO SAVED ME!! I was a dancer but my parents work got in the way just because no one could take me to dance. Then I started getting back into gymnastics but I wasn't as flexible as I was, so this video helped so much!! THANKYOU ILYSM!!!
I could never do splits. I tried and tried for years but it just isn't possible for my body type evidently. So to other commenters who say you can't do splits, you are not alone. Maybe some of us just aren't built for splits? I am pretty flexible in other ways, just not in that way.
0070223c hristy sit on a few pillows while trying your splitz this way it will be stretching you well and help you get your split and as you get better start taking pillows away and soon you will have your split
Do each of the splits for one minute every night before bed. Your legs and hips will eventually get it. You just have to tell yourself, if I want to get my splits, then this is what I have to do. Trust me, you will get it.
This is such a fab video! It would be so amazing if you made a regaining strength and flexibility video for someone like me, who's suffered from an extreme hamstring injury and is looking to regain everything that I've lost! I look forward to your uploads as your videos are just so great! xxx
Holding stretches for a minute or longer? I'm confused... I've been told that holding stretches for longer than 30 seconds increases your risk of injury. Even a dance physician told me that! Since I'm also a dance teacher now, I wanna do what's best for my students, but sometimes it's really hard to figure out what's true, because there often are equally qualified people with totally different views on topics like stretching, working with hyper-extension, turnout etc..
Violet Heroine If you stretch for less than thirty seconds then your muscles will still limber up but you won’t increase your flexibility. It is true that if you aren’t warm and hold stretches you can injure yourself though. Hope this helps! X
I reply in late but at the beginning of your stretching routine you should do no more than 30 sec, then when the muscles are warmed up, you can do 1min or more ^^
I did that when I was young it was hard the most bad that I learned ballet from internet in my whole life because there is nothing called ballet in my country , now I'm old I'm 18 years old and I stopped everything because of studying and have been fat from non-working out Ballet was my childhood dream but not all people could reach their aims always I hope for this little cute girl to be better than me and practice happily in this beautiful art 😊💓
Me and my younger sister are actually interested in taking ballet classes once we can afford them. This seems like a good way to build up our flexibility before we take them. I’ve wanted to do ballet for 19 years and while I no longer dream of dancing as Clara/Marie from The Nutcracker (thanks mom for saying I wasn’t allowed dance lessons because it didn’t involve showing an animal) I still wanna learn ballet because I never lost my passion for it or love of dancing. Aside from when I’m working on my novels or mangas I only ever feel free and happy when dancing so I wanna learn how to actually dance ballet.
@@LegallyBoopy Um the people most likely to watch a video like this are ballet BEGINNERS or people wanting to start ballet. In all honestly, do you think higher level ballet students, who know how to stretch and have teachers helping with all this stuff already, watch this? You think every beginner can do splits already, let alone people who are only considering ballet? Videos like this are actually discouraging if anything, because it makes it seem as if you already have to be able to BE flexible to BECOME flexible. I can see teenage girls who would love to dance ballet see this and be scared off because they cannot do this stuff already (when most people can't without any training, including kids).
The middle splits on the wall stretch, my cheer coach used to make us sit in it for 15 minutes. When we were done half of us could barely get out of it.
so for the first one, what if i can’t touch my toes? i’m a dancer and i really need to loosen my hamstrings because they are holding me back a lot. any tips?
I started doing ballet as a hobbie 15 years ago because i don't like to exercise and ballet for me is a way to stay healthy and fit, now that i'm 40 i'm more flexible than 15 years ago but i've been told i'm not on the flexible side anyways i stretch just 2-3 times per week. I read your comments complaining about not being flexible, it depends on you, how much time you spend exercising and it has to be everyday, and remember that some bodies, like my body, won't get that flexible but it will improve
Some people may be saying that these are too challenging, and yes they are for beginners but a tip for people who’ve just recently joined a dance team or are planning to, improving your flexibility comes with practice. Not all children are given that god given talent when they are born. Even if they are, they still have to practice. That comes with doing these exact exercises (or try) every single day. Focus on something else like what you are having for dinner or how long until your birthday is, I do not suggest focusing on the pain because focusing on it will keep your mind on it and make you stressed or quit quicker. If you focus on something else, or day dream you will not be mainly focusing on pain and you will actually start to get the hang of it. Each day you do these, focus on how you are improving. Maybe even have someone video you, so you can see how you’ve improved in your flexibility and dancing. To get in most dance classes, you have to be able to do a ridiculous amount of things first. Some you must try out to be on teams like for intense elite teams like “dance moms” ALDC, or CLDC, or other specific teams like that. What you are doing when doing these each day is stretching your muscles which may result in pain, but it is all worth it in the end. You may not want to wait, go ahead and start this now and do it everyday because I promise you it will help you if you do it everyday for 6 months. I used to not be able to kick my leg above my head, but practicing these activities at home or in a studio, really helps and now I can do it! Believe in yourself, do not give up , and be patient because it will take time. But looking back on everything later, will certainly surprise you and make you happy. Keep dreaming and do not compare yourself to others! And don’t loose confidence, always think about how amazing you are, and keep on shining! Look at other videos, and others advice x
Claudia, I love your channel! I'm from Spain and I watch your videos every week. Yerterday I was in my ballet class and I realized that my hands weren't relaxed. Could you record a video with some tips about " How to relax pressure zones " ( like hands, arms and neck ) Thanks for all your videos. They are amazing!!! Love
I've done ballet for 13 years and I cant even do the first exercise, I'm naturally inflexible. I love these vids, but rather than saying "just go to your limits" it'd be really useful if you gave precise instructions for someone whose 'limit' is quite low/alternative exercises that dont require being somewhat flexible tp start
The key to touching your toes, for even a second, is just to keep doing it even when it hurts. Like Claudia said, your legs will hurt and get numb, and then they will just let you go down. It really works. If you go down for two seconds and give up, then it's never gonna happen. Don't give in!💜
I was doing dance and karate at the same time. I was at karate one day and decided to show off my splits. I popped my left hip flexor and I’ve been out of dance and karate from almost two years and I still get flareups of pain in my hip!!!
The first scratch I cannot even reach my toes but this video helps so much I should be flexible because I do gymnastics I am a little flexible but not a lot
I love you all so much! I adore the positive community we have created on my channel- you're all amazing and I LOVE reading your messages! XXX

That's exciting Juliet, keep going! xx
I can’t even touch my toes yet!
I like the way you teach, including important details and different approaches
It's so sad that almost everybody in my family is flexible but there kids and I'm just saying that I getting put in dance class when I go to Atlanta for the summer and I think I'm being put in ballet class and my cousin has been doing since she was 2 come on I will never be flexible😔😔😭😓
Me too!
Carol Rogers I get you I can't even open my legs 90 degrees
Never give up!
That’s what science says- holding the stretches for longer (a minimum of 90 sec) is the most effective
Awesome! Flexibility tips are always awesome because flexibility is needed in so many different fields!
Couldn't agree more!! xx
Why are people acting like the student can control how flexible she is? It doesn't matter that she's already flexible anyway; it's just a demonstration.
I don't have a barre in my house to hold on to. Any alternatives? Loved this, btw!
Jillian B chair with a back will work and also a ladder
Jillian B a bed the like head of it or a sofa or even a chair that is probs the best option a chair
I meant in terms of holding my weight for the stretches, not in terms of being a barre. But thanks for the responses!
Got it now. you can stretch between 2 chair with a back, it will work just fine.
if you have an upstairs or a veranda banisters or stair railings are good!
Great job explaining what to expect when stretching for those who wouldn't know. Like the leg turning numb. Great all around tips. Thanks! Great video
Thanks! this video is super helpful! Can you do a video on HypO extension (the opposite of hyper extension) because I get the correction to straighten my knees a lot but I physically can't, its so frustrating!
Thank you so much! Also I will definitely consider this - thanks for the suggestion xo
What is the brand/style of her ballet shoes? They fit so well!
Thank you, I lost my splits and it is hard doing ballet without, now I have them back three stretch’s in! I can only do middle split though
I LOVE her accent!
Corgi Dog She has an accent?
Corgi Dog you would love Australia lmao
Sofia McLeod are you Australian lmao
@@TheonewhereCupcake I am. There isn't the same accent as she is speaking in the video tho. They sound different to what is normally spoken here :)
I was flexible when I was younger, but when I started to get older (around 10 to 12 I guess), I noticed that I was getting less flexible. I do my stretches every day and I've been improving a lot. When I found this video, this will really help me out
The whole reason I watched this video was to be able to do the splits and you expect us to already know how??
Ik this is old but you don’t have to know how to do a split just go as far as u can
Best dance ever. Really helps me & my sis get along better & fitter
I can’t do the first one because I don’t have hyperextended legs :(
Beginner dancer here, these tips really helped me out and been working hard at it, and i’m not that far off doing the splits now! Thanks Claudia💗
I wish Claudia was my teacher
OMG OMG OMGGGGGGGGG! IM SO HAPPY!!!!!! I LUV YOU SO MUCH LITERALLY! I CAN KNOW DO THE SPLITS, IM WHY CLOSE ON IT!!!!!!!!! :D YOU KNOW HOW HAPPY AND JOY I AM NOW? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I never knew you had to be flexible to get flexuble😂😂💓
Hi Claudia, all yours vids are so helpful, can you please do a video on how to get a perfect grand jete and Saut de chat? Thx
Thank you so much xo and of course, just added it to my video list!!
Thankyou
I love ballet and Im sure that Yoga is a perfect teacher, further of geting flexible or knowing about your possition without any mirror. It is a way of life that can help you grow and reach your real goals.
Peace & Love
Wow! This video is so helpful! Thank you for putting so much effort in your videos!💗😙

Ina Delić q

You've done it again Claudia! I swear I'm literally the least flexible person ever 😂 this will really be helpful in preparation for our upcoming show next weekend :) Thanks again 💗💗
Good luck! 😙
GOOD LUCK!! Lots of love- you'll be amazing!!
Thanks for all of the love and support xxxx
Celeste Chong no I am
Breach a leg not literally sorry I saw that cause I dance sing and I’m an actress so yea good luck 🍀
OMG THIS VIDEO SAVED ME!! I was a dancer but my parents work got in the way just because no one could take me to dance. Then I started getting back into gymnastics but I wasn't as flexible as I was, so this video helped so much!! THANKYOU ILYSM!!!
I can't do splits!😢
Tijana Milojević i can do split but my toes is not point..😢😢
Keep trying! You will get it eventually and maybe be able to do an oversplit
Finally a realistic video! Not one of those “get flexible in one day!” Very helpful :)
4:48 "YEEESSS" "GOOOD" 😂😂😭😭😭😭 I LOVE IT
I could never do splits. I tried and tried for years but it just isn't possible for my body type evidently. So to other commenters who say you can't do splits, you are not alone. Maybe some of us just aren't built for splits? I am pretty flexible in other ways, just not in that way.
Soo need this I've got so far now I'm stuck thank u claudia! Xx
Megan Anytime!! 😘😘😘
Megan 😜
CC o Cc o CC o
I have being practicing ballet for a long time now and I am getting it thanks to your show
Um....... stretch 4
How if I can’t do a split ☹️
Then what should I do if I can’t do splits 😨
0070223c hristy sit on a few pillows while trying your splitz this way it will be stretching you well and help you get your split and as you get better start taking pillows away and soon you will have your split
You can also try over splits on an object. It really helps for me
Do each of the splits for one minute every night before bed.
Thanks for the input :)
I reply in late but at the beginning of your stretching routine you should do no more than 30 sec, then when the muscles are warmed up, you can do 1min or more ^^
I’m not a dancer but I’m a theater kid and this might help a lot in the future once I start doing dance.
My legs are too long for the first one😧😢
Breyahna Wheeler boo hoo
Breyahna Wheeler My legs are long too, but I can Do the First one...
Same 😂☹️
Same here
Jaja mine too
What if we are doing this to get beter at doing the splits or if we cant do the splits?
How to get flexible!
Stretch 4 : do an over split!
Me: how the heck did she do that???!!!?!?!
I did that when I was young it was hard the most bad that I learned ballet from internet in my whole life because there is nothing called ballet in my country , now I'm old I'm 18 years old and I stopped everything because of studying and have been fat from non-working out
Ballet was my childhood dream but not all people could reach their aims always
I hope for this little cute girl to be better than me and practice happily in this beautiful art 😊💓
Can u please do a stage makeup tutorial, btw ur makeup always looks amazing!!! lysm!!! 💖
Fantastic suggestion - will definitely consider this! xx
Omg what did we do to deserve to get this wonderful woman!!! My legs feel so much loser , and lighter and just more flexible!!!!
Ive been doing ballet since i was 2 and im not that flexibleㅠㅠ mnths later (still stretching).... still the same.. lol
You're already flexible...try using another person that isn't
Exactly
@@saarinenj1 why? it's a channel about ballet - this video probably wasnt made so a soccer mom could learn how to do a split
@@LegallyBoopy There are people who got into ballet late and didn't get the chance to grow with "open joints"
Me Included, and I'm 13.
@@mchobbit2951 ok, karen
The girl smiling in the beginning be like: hOw lOnG ShOuLd I kEeP sMiLiNg iM TiReD 👁💧👄💧👁
I am a ballet dancer but thanks I got actually much more flexible
Ken Ken how lomg have u been dancing?
Title: how to get flexible
My mind: how to get a spot in the hospital
Great video as always.
Thank you so much Amira

Claudia, I love your channel! I'm from Spain and I watch your videos every week.
Yerterday I was in my ballet class and I realized that my hands weren't relaxed.
Could you record a video with some tips about " How to relax pressure zones " ( like hands, arms and neck )
Thanks for all your videos. They are amazing!!!

Video: how to be flexible
Me: oh yay
Video: do the F UC K I N G splits
How to get flexible:
Step 1: stretch
Step 2: warm up before stretches
Step 3: stretch every morning and night
Step 4: consistency is key
AHH!!! *-* Thank you for the video!!
Louise FMir My pleasure! 😍😍😍
I am flexible because of ANNA MCNULTY
Me too
My legs are too long😭 I have to bend me knees to reach my feet can you make a video on how to help with this?
Stretch 5
Splits on wall
Me : and I oop
After doing these exercises I actually got into the splits!!❤️❤️ I never thought I could!😄
People here complaining about not being able to do splits, I can't even touch my feet 😂
Oof
The key to touching your toes, for even a second, is just to keep doing it even when it hurts. Like Claudia said, your legs will hurt and get numb, and then they will just let you go down. It really works. If you go down for two seconds and give up, then it's never gonna happen. Don't give in!💜
I know
I was doing dance and karate at the same time.
I love you, Claudia🥰
