same dude, related to his doing something brave line like no other quote anywhere and just him as a character. This still makes my heart drop seeing it happen as I cried on the first time
He basically was the only one, Rome on ‘A Million Little Things’ does as well but that’s the only other character I can think of and I watch a lot of shows.
The white particles that come out of the mirror remind me so strongly of the first book, when one of the professors was attempting to find Quentin's discipline, and in the end, they find out he's able to throw white sparks out of his hands. If the writers meant for this to resemble that part of the book, then I tip my hat to them, for it would be a magical detail (tragic, because that's how he dies, but magical nonetheless)...
Did I do something brave to save my friends or did I finally find a way to kill myself tgat line was just like the ultimate question to Quentin’s story of going from depression to finding happiness and how it’s shaped to the end R.I.P Quentin Makepeace Coldwater 😭😭😭
@@luciferpitchblack3217 From interviews I read when last season's finale aired, it seemed like it. Probably why they had him get on the underground metro instead of hanging out in the afterlife library like Penny.
James Moriarty same. It’s such an amazing scene but it kills me every time I watch this. I don’t even know if I’ll be able to watch the season without Q in it...
This is one of the very few instances in my own personal opinion that I will ever say that a series has surpassed the books(again, my own personal opinion).
i loved this scene cuz if you pay close enough attention you can tell penny and q are talking telepathically or penny is reading q's mind to learn the plan
It's amazing how they've had that mental connection since season 1. Penny has always been able to read Quentin's thoughts and you can see it in his face when he realizes what Q's planning.
Is he serious he already proved he's just like them? Threats, manipulation and just trying to be a God shows what he is already capable of. Poor Elliot and Alice!!
My heart is broken, this show is so great and will never be forgotten everyone who did not see the show missed something in their live, I love this show.. I saw it like 6 times now.
The Magicians is probably my favourite TV series, and I remember First watching it when episode 5 of season 1 released. I remember after the first season finished I would search almost every day seeing when the release date of season 2 would be announced. (I think I waited the longest for season 7 of Clone Wars) These are my favourite moments in this scene - 2:15 - You see Penny's mouth drop open indicating he has heard Q's plan. 2:22 - You can see Penny's face change almost as if he is pleading with Q not to do it. Followed by Q's facial twitch showing he is now committed to the plan and Penny can't change his mind. 2:24 - Alice Starts to realise what Q is thinking and pleads with him not to do it. After Q says "Do it" Penny doesn't hesitate as he remembers Penny40 telling him "You remember, that when the moment comes, I said 'Do it'! Do what he says, Okay." It would be great if in Later seasons they pay homage to this scene with a flashback, but you can hear the telepathic conversation they are having.
The only part of this that I find both hysterical and maddeningly stupid is the shot of him standing still looking back at Everett getting evaporated before he meets the same fate. Like, you knew that's exactly what would happen, why the hell is there even a fraction of a second you aren't trying to run for your life? It really makes the line of "did I do something heroic to save my friends, or finally find a way to kill myself", really seem like the later with the framing of this scene. When it's supposed to be the opposite with the Take On Me cover around the campfire just after that Penny shows him.
I think the point of Q's conversation with afterlife Penny is that in a way, he's the only one who can ever know if there was something more to it, but there's no reason it couldn't have been both. He did do something heroic, he saved and transformed his friends' lives and left a lasting mark on each of them, but he knew he was likely going to die when he cast that mending spell. He didn't do it to waste his own life on purpose, but he did it fully knowing that that way lay likely death.
Dude if I was sacrificing my life to kill a God you're goddamned right I'd stick around to confirm the kill. None of this fucking post-credits bullshit. Everett had to *go*.
Hear me out, Q's death is a Fixed Point in every timeline. Jane's Chatwin's goal, unbeknownst to even her, was to produce his most beneficial death for all. He dies it's a tragic absolute, probably one a few things the Elder Gods actually do.
I still remember watching this scene like i couldnt believe it. Unraveling and in my mind like oh hell no. Somewhere inside we knew this was final by long and dramatic the scene is.
@@lordthetir Honestly they all are super different. Book Q is a fairly selfish. Magic does fix everything for him and it makes him desperate to hold on to it. His connection to his friends is so much weaker.
@@Elfeinir Her whole motivation is better in the show. It's insane how much she goes through and still pushes forward. The biggest difference between the show and the books is that in the books it's just Q's story. In the show its everyone's.
I imagine having Q's corpse fall on the ground at the doorway while running out of the classroom wouldn't be the best sendoff to the character. I think they were going for more of an iconic farewell a la Terminator 2 (thumbs up).
I think Q stopped running because the destruction wave had hit his back, and his body was beginning to disintegrate. He physically COULDN'T continue running; it's kind of impossible to run if your glutes and hamstrings have been vaporized. Maybe if Quentin had immediately turned and run for the door as soon as he threw the bottle he would have made it... but how could he not watch and see whether the mirror would be restored before the bottle hit it, or if Everett would manage to catch the bottle before it went through? Quentin needed to know if his plan failed so he could take further action if needed to contain Monster and/or apotheosized Everett. I find myself wondering how the scene would have gone if Jason Ralph hadn't wanted to leave the show after Season 4. Would Quentin have made it out of the room, or would there have been no convenient prop for Everett to break the mirror with? Or would Season 5 have been about reviving Quentin? I'd like to know.
It's pointless to add up the what ifs. Alice could have been keeping watch. Why did he hesitate to throw it in? The entire scene is malarkey and just proves it was more about the actor wanting to leave the show maybe. Cos wow. It just did not need to go like this.

Adit Mukherjee By then the sparks simply became too fast and the scene was slowed down even more to compensate giving the impression of his near stillness.
Ithiel Pitt Jason Raplh is leaving the show, thus we will never get the Queliot we deserve and we had the depressed character only find meaning in his life through his death. Nice Syfy
