  • this is to show you how to remove the IR filter from any mobile camera.Most of the cameras in mobile phones has the same assembly.All you gotta do is remove the camera from its housing and carefully desloder the auto focus coil,after that remove the cmos sensor and remove the IR filter from its housing.Assemble it back together and pop it in the socket.Now you got yourself a IR free camera which can be used to see in the dark with the help of IR flashlight.

    You should do the before and after of taking the filter.

    I've done this on an old Lenovo a6000. Camera works but auto focus does not work. Focus is fixed. But I can get an output. Before you try is on a working phone I recommend you practice on broken non functional phones. Remove the camera module and try to remove the ir filter without damaging the components. If you can do this perfectly atleast 2 times then try it on the actual phone.

      Yeah It's a bit fiddly process.You need steady hands and bit of patients.Fixed focus ones are easy to do but the auto focus ones are bit sensitive to brute force,too much force when handling and you are done

    I wish you had have shown it working against an IR light sorce first as both of my phones can see IR when it is close to the camera but not very powerfull 15W IR headlamp lighting up a room , so I have no idea if my phones have IR filter or not.

    • @curiousmaker369
      @curiousmaker369  2 года назад +7

      Hi, most of the recent phone cameras have IR filters, they can detect IR light for some extent but most of it will be blocked by the IR filter. You should be able to see in the dark with the help of your IR headlamp if you remove the filter. You can clearly see the difference after removing the filter in my video, it will give purple tint to the video. That's how you know you got no IR filtration.

    Did you cut the two solder joints when separating the cmos from the lens oder did you desolder the joints?

    • @curiousmaker369
      @curiousmaker369  2 года назад +2

      I indeed cut the solder joints as shown in the video, you can desolder them if you choose to do so.

    • @elPanolo
      @elPanolo 2 года назад +2

      @@curiousmaker369 cut them too, worked great, without the ircut filter i couldnt achieve infinity focus though. Didn't have a 0.2mm glass at hand to replace it, so i sanded down the filter mount a bit before resoldering the array and got perfect autofocus now :) converted an instax sq10 btw

      Nice,I didn't show it on film but I figured out the focus problem later by sanding and placing a shim in front of the housing

    • @curiousmaker369
      @curiousmaker369  4 года назад +1

      What do you need the Spy camera lol, anyway you can build a night vision (not a real one but you could see infrared light) camera with it but you need a powerful IR source

      I have just removed the filter this morning from my flip cam it has no ir light at all but that is an easy fix. You can buy one to carry 100yrds for a few pound I intend to do more of these as it only takes about an hour and it will be good fun.

    Tried to do this on a LG G2 Mini (D-620R) an hour back but ended up scratching the CMOS sensor & severing some gold wires that come off the sensor onto the PCB. 😢😭
    Lesson learned but I will try again (just when I get myself 2 new camera modules off eBay). 😎😆😅

      @@curiousmaker369 actually they are asking about a tof depth sensor/camera I don't believe they have a filter due to the way they work. They are a stand-alone device that is sensitive to ir as two or more ir flashes light up the area and it views the result

    • @curiousmaker369
      @curiousmaker369  4 года назад +2

      @@Trekeyus yeah my bad, I thought they were asking about wide angle lens used to measure the depth in modern smartphones. If they are referring to TOF sensor than you are right, it uses infrared beams to map the surroundings and it should be ir filter free

      That's a broken outer glass and that is the reason for attempting the mod in the first place. You can see the red tint after removal of the IR filter. My primary goal is not night vision like in some other videos so I didn't bother showing.
