Seinfeld was genius for not turning Jerry and Elaine into a regular sitcom will or won't they couple. They have a much more refreshing dynamic and chemistry
Totally! They basically just have a semi-flirty friendship, and even though they hookup a couple times during the show it never gets into romantic drama
Jerry and Elaine had good chemistry, they might not have gotten back together, but it shows how much of a special couple they were. That’s all I can say.
The show wisely avoided the cliché sitcom ending, because it’s always been about avoiding clichés (“no hugging, no learning”). Which is fine because we don’t need a huge “I got off the plane” moment for Jerry and Elaine. We know well enough that they belong together.
We all know they’re soulmates. They didn’t even have to get together in the finale for us to know that. We know it’ll happen for them someday, on a day we won’t see.
Having had this kinda relationship with an ex, it's hilarious to watch them talk themselves into it, like there's an invisible judgmental third party they're trying to convince it's not a bad idea. And how they keep flailing their arms.
I always thought that if Seinfeld ever came back it would mean Jerry and Elain would have to be married by then. Krammer would live next door along with George in his parent's home down the street.
Damn, I really wish they didn't have a rule against providing an emotional ride cause they were really good at creating scenes that evoke emotions in Seinfeld in the rare times they made an attempt. I'm not one to easily get sentimental over a tv show but that scene in The Deal and the conversation at end of that two part episode where Kramer takes a trip to LA due to a quarrel he had with Jerry over the keys genuinely made me feel something. They were both very understated, a lot was left unsaid, and you basically had to probe inside the mind of the characters in order to understand them. It was good stuff.
That’s what made it so effective, imo. A lot of times sitcom writers would try to hamfist these emotional story arcs and it just felt manipulative. In Seinfeld, it felt more organic and realistic because it felt like it was just *happening* despite the characters.
in the mini-Seinfeld reunion inside of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Jerry is the father of Elaine’s daughter. I think they say its through artificial insemination but it still shows they kinda have a thing for each other.
I was married for 20 years yet didn't have nearly the relationship these 2 did in the long run. Maybe I should've said, "well, that's just grrreat!" when she told me she was leaving
Why do people get married if they're just gonna leave?!?? It's a waste of time, money, love, and company. Luckily for you, she didn't cheat. People proudly do that these days
They probably did love each other but more of a brother and sister type of love. I don't think they were in love. They tried a couple times but it never worked out.
I used to binge watch How I Met Your Mother when it was on Netflix. I think that show took a lot of queues from Seinfeld because the back and forth relationship between Ted and Robin looked pretty similar to the back and forth relationship between Jerry and Elaine.
I honestly really like the idea of them together but not super monogamously, since that doesn’t seem to work for them. I could see them being just long time romantic friends lol. The way they squabble like schoolyard children is so entertaining 8:26
I agree because the show was “no hugging, no learning” and thus it cleverly avoided more cliché storylines. But we don’t need explicit confirmation that Elaine and Jerry belong together; that fact is obvious enough.
Easily one of the best episodes of the early seasons(The Deal). They had some real duds but this one showed what the show working at 100% could do.(Kramer wasn't even that big of a part yet)
They were friends, not a couple.. that’s why the show was so successful. Friends and The Office introduced romance in their writing, completely killed the comedic elements of the shows.
In normal times they would have been married, and stayed married, and had the relationship they do on the show (mature love). But they never did, so they're in some weird limbo state where they still love each other, so they kind of have an ersatz marriage/family but they also can't go back and just get "together."
I have a female best friend and before I met my fiancée we had a Jerry and Elaine relationship which I don’t tell the woman I’m marrying about. Think about it you wouldn’t either
In high school law class we got to go to court for the day. That's seriously the last thing any of them want. You got the Seinfeld reunion episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm instead. That's an amazing way to reboot Seinfeld.
A reboot would ruin the legacy. The great thing about Seinfeld was there was no character growth, but it's silly to expect that 25 yrs later. They're certainly not going to be the same people, so what's tbe point?

Seinfeld was genius for not turning Jerry and Elaine into a regular sitcom will or won't they couple. They have a much more refreshing dynamic and chemistry
Totally agree
The will they or won’t they was invented by cheers and then a bunch of sitcoms followed suit ever since.
Totally! They basically just have a semi-flirty friendship, and even though they hookup a couple times during the show it never gets into romantic drama
Because they never were
You literally just described what they are doing.
Jerry and Elaine had good chemistry, they might not have gotten back together, but it shows how much of a special couple they were. That’s all I can say.
all it means is that that was a good script given to good actors. in real life MISSION IMPOSSIBLE
