  • Firstly, I apologise for my croaky voice here, the theatre is a listed building and as such has a conservation obligation and the humidity levels mess with my throat. I've worked with a few events techs who have seen the QuickQ desk and struggled to get their heads around it, this is just a quick introduction and I will likely follow up with a better, more in-depth video at a later stage, I can only film these videos while on a lunch break so am generally quite restricted, please feel free to ask me any questions or request any future videos :)

    Hi bud, thanks for the video & the info shared, very useful. We are contemplating purchasing a Q20. I got to test drive one last week. However, when I was programming it froze once and at another time it crashed. I was wondering if you had ever encounter that problem and what has your experience been with the board during shows and programming stages. If you got a minute, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

      Hi there! What firmware are you currently running? I upgraded my theatre one to the most recent and it made the desk very sluggish so had to roll the upgrade back to the original from when I purchased it. What I have found is that the "tablet" built into the desk is a bit sluggish if there are too many shows saved to the device and if you have a hefty fixture list. I tend to only patch in 3 different LED fixtures: Chauvet Rougue R3, SquareLED Parcan, Phillips Selecon and occasionally Chauvet Well Fit wireless DMX uplighters, the desk did however crash when I added in some extra Chauvet generic pars but I think this was more that it boggled the desks brain because there was no fixture file for it, after rebooting the desk though it was fine. As a general overview of the desk it works very well, not the most stable but for the cost it is fantastic, naturally I can't compare it to a good grand MA but it competes and does better than most hogs and ETC's :) any more questions, feel free to ask away

    Is there a tap tempo button that you can hit on the fly from the Home Screen, or do you have to go into each effects setting to adjust it? Maybe you can patch a midi controller to always be the tempo tap? Hope this question makes sense. Thanks for the great video!

      Hi Stephen, there's not a global tap tempo on the home screen unfortunately, however the programmer is so fast and accessible that you can easily double click a group/chase/cue and change the tap tempo that way. You can also access the tap tempo very quickly if you have routed your cue stacks to your playback layer. You can 100% connect a midi controller to the rear of the desk, I haven't been able to use this function as of yet (I haven't been able to use the desk for over a year now due to the current global situation) but as soon as I get a chance to, I'll happily make a video on using them. What I have found to be useful is the audio input at the rear of the desk. As the only theatre technician for the majority of my events, I have to do sound, lighting and video switching, so if I have a band in, being able to route say a kick drum and snare via an aux/matrix on my sound desk to the chamsys is very helpful at times (all be it quite archaic by modern lighting standards) but there are plenty of options none the less. Hope this helps! if not, feel free to elaborate and I will answer as best as I can :)

      @@TobiLeggend If you go into the settings you can turn off the blackout button, this will change its function. Now you can hold the blackout button down and use the soft key for your cue as a tap tempo.

    Hi again. Have you used this deck with Qlab using midi? If so, do you know how to set up/ send a command to stop a playback? Let me know if you have a minute. Thanks.

      Hi again, so I've used this desk with qlab but I used a wireless dmx transceiver on universe 2 and sent that into a USB network buffer/splitter which worked "ok" but had to be monitored closely as I had a few drop outs (no doubt an interruption with WDMX rather than anything on the desk) as for the commands I used, I would need to have another look at the commands I programmed in, I'm not fluent on the qlab commands and had to watch and read several videos and forums to get the best lines I could, I think I got most of the information I needed from reddit, sorry if this wasn't helpful, I'll try to locate a mac mini in work to see if I can have a mesaround in qlab, if I get some success I will type the command lines here

    Hello Sir. I was looking at this board for my theater. We are incorporating more LED's and will still use conventional lighting instruments. How do you feel this board (quickQ30) will stand up to the congo jr from etc. Thanks in advance !!!

    • @TobiLeggend
      @TobiLeggend  4 года назад

      Hi! I would personally choose the QuickQ over the Congo because it's far quicker for patching. Having used the Congo and Ion a number of times, they are very time consuming when it comes to patching. Now that LED has opened the doors for creativity when it comes to colours, washes and remote focusing, actual concert/production programming takes an absolute age compared to analogue (remember how much of a nuisance and prone to catching fire those Alpha and Beta packs were though? 😬) Anything that can save you time on patching and programming is a bonus, this is why for me the touch screen and easy DMX patching on the QuickQ is far more appealing than the Congo. I'll be filming a video on moving heads as soon as I get a spare hour, I hope I can show you how smooth and flawless the QuickQ is for controling moving fixtures, the response time is flawless (I compare this to a whole hog and our other lighting desk: Jester ML48 by Zero88 which was renowned for its smooth mover control) best thing I can suggest really is to see if you can demo one, have you had a look around for a supplier? Where about the yiu based?
