Kawhi pretty much sacrificed his entire career for that one championship in Toronto. Before the 2024 season, he was never able to play at least 60 games for his entire Clippers career. The last time he played 60 regular season games was back in his one year with the Raptors, where he won his second championship. Nick Nurse even talked about this on Draymond’s podcast during his first meeting with Kawhi, who told even told him that “I’m going to play to win it all. I’m gonna do that for one year. After that, I’m not sure what’s going to happen.”
Now granted, he was talking about if he was going to stay in Toronto or not, but looking back, I’m wondering if he also meant that he wasn’t sure if he could continue giving it his all with his damaged knees.

In European basketball, no player was more eager to play through injury than Vassilis Spanoulis. He was impossible to stop from 2011 to 2013 and then he played through a serious ankle sprain for the National Team during the 2013 Eurobasket. He was never the same player after that. He was still great by Euroleauge standards, but he no longer was the force of nature he used to be during his prime.

It's really sad that the teams and also the fans expect these players to play through injuries, risking bigger injuries, otherwise they seem weak. I think very big part of it is the number of games per season. I mean, seriously, 82 is insane. In Europe, they usually play 2 games a week, one in the local league and one in the European league. It's not like they sit around and do nothing the rest of the time. They practice, so you actually build a better team because they bond, they learn to play better with each other, they practice different plays. This way, you get to the playoff with your best players able to play. Everyone wants to see a good playoff. A good playoff includes the best players in shape, not exhausted, not injured (mostly).
The best of 7 is also insane to me. In Europe, we have the best of 5, which is enough in my mind.
I know old timers will say, well, it's always been 82, and the players managed just fine, and I don't know what's different in this era, but it's just a fact.

9:17 The crazy thing is that what Boston did to Isaiah wasn’t necessary for Bostons future. In fact if the saved Isiah’s health they could have traded him for a better deal

For argument's sake, isn't it that teams are paying them to play and get returns to what they are paying?

  • @arythma80

It's despicable that these teams would pay their players millions of $$$ to play a kids game and then expect them to be on the court. How dare they! KD has said on numerous occasions that he doesn't blame the Dubs but you, a youtuber that wasn't in the locker room or on the court blames these teams for players getting injured. YOJ

It *always* shocks me when professional athletes show loyalty to clubs and don’t realize what they’re seen as: chattel. By and large, they are property of the owners. It’s mind-boggling when a dude will side with the organization in almost any aspect. I understand most of these orgs & clubs have been around long before and long after these guys, but that doesn’t change the fact that no human should be able to Lord over another human, plain and simple. And while we’re on it, these owners wouldn’t have teams and the players wouldn’t have jobs if it weren’t for US, THE FANS.

For me, the Boston Celtics stand out as the worst example of this. The fact they've done this to players over such a long period of time, combined with the especially brutal treatment of IT, makes my blood boil.
As always fantastic vid, hope to see many more over the coming years :)

Facts. Rob said so himself. Also, he was out a lot during his last season, the team gave him the time to recover
Then he got traded when he was having his healthiest offseason and got injured playing for the Blazers, he's making it look like the Celtics sent him already injured to Portland

I feel like the NBA needs to step in when it comes to teams playing players while they’re injured. It’s blatantly obvious that most organizations are so greedy that they don’t give a shit about players’ health and are willing to play them through injury if it means that it increases their chances of winning.

No I mean they don’t have to actually play, but it’s just like essentially an order. You don’t play, then you lose out of benefits and such from the team.
Not that it’s good, but it’s just not like forced labor
