First time on your channel. Have considered a CW for some time now and just came across the Jack Mason. Your comprehensive and unbiased review is really great. Thank You!
I enjoyed your comparison but as you mentioned then it often comes down to personal taste or a person might prioritize some aspects over others. Both the CW and Monta are both watches I'd love to own but most likely only one of them so nice to see them go head to head.
First time I saw a CW was sitting in a plane thumbing through the Sky Catalog, fell in love with the image. Now it resides on my wrist throughout the week. Thanks Honey for the best Christmas gift. Still in love with both.
Until this video, I'd not heard of the Jack Mason and I've never seen a Monta. However, I own a C63 Sealander, 3 hand, blue on Bader bracelet. I bought it new two years ago when CW introduced the twin flag logo. It's an excellent watch, stylish and VERY comfortable and my Omegas are jealous of the amount of wrist time it gets. It also gets a lot of attention in high end watch shops, curious because they've not seen one and surprised how well it stands up against more mainstream brands. Good video as always.
I am once again choosing the Monta. I think it has better finish and bracelet and I still don't like having another man's name on my body like Christopher or Jack.
Grat comparison video. I don't care about the overall ranking part, but seeing three really good watches together with your comments let's a viewer better form their own opinions. I would love the Monta bracelet and overall finishing, the Jack Mason clasp and hardness coating, and the CW bracelet switching options and light catcher case all rolled into one feature packed wstch.
Interesting. I’d have given movement to the Monta, as the 300 is a lot better than the 200 in my experience. My worry with scratch resistant coding is that long run they’ll be tricky to re-finish, but short term they definitely seem better. Interesting video!

Really enjoyed the blend of design and engineering throughout the comparison. These watches are not out of my grasp, something I would have save up for so deciding on one would be a difficult choice. I definitely wouldn’t go CW just because it would take me less time to save up for it. I honestly don’t know. Like you said, this is just the beginning of the conversion. Thanks!
Great analysis. The Monta is nice however to me it feels more like a modern day Rolex Explorer and the Jack Mason is a slightly "prettier" watch with a more interesting dial and every single indice is "pretty" vs just the 12,3,6, and 9 on the Monta.
Yeah... I agree. The noble would be the better one in this comparison. However, the "explore" feel is also what I love about the Monta Triumph, and why I bought it. It's my Explorer alternative without it being a straight homage.
Just did last week. They hosted an event for local watchcrunch memebers. Not very big, but big enough.. Really cool that they did this, gives you an oppertunity to see everything in person. Including a special edition Dragonfly Bel Canto which I think is Exclusive to the Dallas showroom. Since I'm local, I'm hoping to work with them on some videos in the future.
@@waynecastleman1363 great watch, but it's only getting 25 hours? Or is that just with how much you move in a given day. Which is sometimes the trick. I've had a few that takes a lot of movement to get them fully charged. Like my Oris or some of my old seiko's.
Greta video! I like that all three got a fair shake. I think a fairer comparison would be the C65 Dune against the Canton. The Sealander is the most budget watch CW makes, whereas the Dune is the next step up in finishing, so closer in price.
Thanks! That's a good point. Until recently I didn't realize the Dune was more than the Sealander. Got a chance to see the Dune recently at the new Showroom. Wasn't a huge fan from the pictures, but in person they look pretty sharp.

I've been a big fan of the Monta since if first came out. Love almost everything about it, but you make some great points about the other two watches - in particular the scratch resistant coating. In the end though, it's still the Monta for me. Don't like the polished bracelet of the Mason, and feel the CW is too derivative.
Monta is great. Part of me wishes they would release more watches. Seems like it's maybe just an update once or twice a year. But they are pretty small operation
The only one of these three that I don't have yet is the Jack Mason. OK, so not the exact models, I have a Monta Noble Voyager, so close, and a pair of CW's but not a Sealander. Well done comparison…of three boring watches. It always comes down to personal preference regardless of the specs. This is readily apparent w/ boring watches where you have an endless selection to choose from.
The applied logo on the Canton looks like something you find on a $50 AliExpress watch. For that reason and the rough brushing on the batons it would easily be ignored by me. Well that's why I usually say at the end that the discussion in the video is much more important than who "wins". I always see the competition part of it as more of a vehicle to keep the video moving forward. And especially in something like this, these are all great and you can't go wrong with any of them.

Someone else asked that, so I'm just pasting what I said there. You might have to see the first video to get the context. The review of the Canton by itself. But the short version is they recently released the Canton which is a slight step up for the brand. Putting them in more competition with Monta and CW. So when they asked if I wanted to review it, I mentioned I could also do a Vs video if they were that confident in it. They were, and I thought it would be interesting to do. So here we are.
I just don't think a bracelet needs polished midlinks to look classy enough for formal events. It looks tacky. You can add polished chamfers to links for a more restrained elegant look.
What do you think about the new CW Consort Bracelet? It's sort of a middle ground between. Kind of a Jubilee with the two outer mid links polished and the center brushed. For me, I think there just needs to be some flashy polished elements to the watch, not necessarily anything major. Just not a straight all brushed or blasted tool watch. Just something that gives it a restrained elegance, like you said.

@@drdesign6886 well which categories do you disagree with and what's the reasoning? The whole reason I break it down into categories is so that you can discuss it if you disagree.
Not exactly... here is a short history of Jack Mason. And let me be clear, I'm writing this just to inform and not to defend the brand. Seems silly to say, but as a reviewer, I think it's important to draw a distinction. I should always stay somewhat impartial. My role here is to be an information source for those watching, and not be representing any particular brand. Anyway... So they are a small brand that's been around for almost 10 years, but most of that time you could consider them to be a fashion brand. Even being carried in department stores for a while. About 2 years ago they really changed things up. They wanted to start building better watches with an eye on the enthusiast market. To the point that they want to be "The Microbrand of Texas". Since then they have released five enthusiast-level watches. With the first one being the most successful, the Start-O-timer True GMT. In fact, they were one of the first micros to announce a watch with a 9075 movement. This was back when Miyota was being very selective about who was getting them. With this last one, the Canton, they bumped up their quality as well as the price. Previously they were doing American-assembled watches for around $800-$1200. Where this one has improvements all around and went full Swiss. When they asked if I wanted to review the Canton they were pretty confident about the quality. So I said if they were that confident about it I could also do a comparison video between them and CW / Monta. Normally I don't do "Vs" videos unless they are all watches I own, I don't think most brands would be up for that when they lend me something. But Jack Mason liked the idea, and I thought it be interesting to see how it stacked up. So here we are.
As I just replied to your other comment, what specifically do you disagree with. That's the reason I break it down into various categories so we can discuss what you don't like or disagree with. As for accusing me of being some sort of shill, nope, there's no promotional tag here. Jack Mason has given me some watches in the past, but I'm not getting anything out of this one. They didn't offer, and I didn't ask.
@@RelativeTime ok. Case execution. Dial design. Bracelet. Features. Uniqueness. Value. The main issue is the ranking 1/2/3 constantly. Just score on each watch independently out of 3. In some sections the differences are minimal, super subjective, or not relevant (such as features as one example) and all watches really should score the same. In other areas the difference is more stark (case design / value / movement etc) where the better watches will score better than move ahead. In need then the best watches win and not your favourite watch. Having said all that it’s your channel. So fair enough use your metric - just seems massively flawed.
@@drdesign6886 Well let me put it this way, it's not my favorite watch. Out of the 3, the Triumph is actually my favorite. But that's beside the point. The thing is there is no perfect way to score a video like this. Different people value different things, let alone people like different types of designs, and no matter how hard I try and being completely objective there is always some amount of subjectivity to certain categories. This is something I've thought about a lot in the past, and even at the end of one previous video I showed it by showing how different watches would win if I changed how the scoring worked. If things were independently scored, or if categories were weighted. Which is when I started saying (and maybe you missed that part here) that who wins these types of videos isn't nearly as important as the discussion that goes into it. As well as saying at the end that I don't view this as the final word, but more the beginning of a conversation. Which is why I asked you where and how you disagree. It wasn't to try and pick a fight, but wanted to know more you were coming from. I try to do that with all these types of video and the comments that disagree. I see my role here with the channel as one to inform and facilitate discussions. Not to ever tell people what they should buy. So for me the whole Vs thing, or Competition, is more a vehicle to facilitate that.
Sorry, but normal time keepers are out of style and you don't see Rolex making a smartwatch. It's just a old fashioned style that we don't use anymore. If you compare how many watches there have been sold to smartwatches you'd be hard pressed to justify high end watches. Now I'm not saying they are bad, but if watches didn't get with the program, they will be left behind. The only reason watches are still useful if that some industries and governments still demand them as well as the military. Not because someone actually wants them. Sorry that's the reality.
Perhaps in time, but one thing to think about is how popular automatic watches are. At least within the watch collecting community. This is technology that was basicly obsolete back in the 70s, but watch collectors still prefer them. Now I'm sure the watch-collecting community is still a fraction to the mainstream market, but seems to be big enough to support a few bigger brands, and a lot of small ones.
I have zero desire for _any_ smart watch. None. Charging them every day or every other day is absurd. I don't need or want my watch to tell me what is going on in my phone. You are obviously watching the wrong channel.
I have a smart watch that I have worn everyday for the last five years. And it’ll still get plenty of wear. But I’m now keen to replace it with something simpler, more traditional, dare I say more mature? Classier? Either the CW Sealander or the Monta Atlas will be my first automatic watch. Smart watches are all at the price point explored in this video but will all become obsolete to the point of being genuinely useless far sooner than any of these three does anyone still going to wear a 15 year old Apple Watch? Sure my Garmin has way more functionality, the data it gathers and presents to me, compass, weather, all the sports tracking and fitness stuff. But to be honest I’m just… “over it”. It bores me now. It doesn’t look as good and it’ll never have the same appeal as a ‘proper’ watch. I’m not everyone and smart watches are a huge part of the market now, like I say, I’ll still get plenty of use out of mine. But classic automatic and quartz timepieces are definitely not going away any time soon.
Just realized I misspelled the Monta Noble in the video, but it's already uploaded so not much I can do.
Great comparison. My take away is that if you have any of these three watches on your wrist, you’ve won.

@@RelativeTime yes that is a very good example of looking a little flash without looking like you're trying too hard!
For me, Monta is the only handsome enough to consider.
The trident or the Noble?
If i was buying one of these watches my pick would be the C.ward.
The Canton has too much dead space on the top half of the dial. That's how you ruin a good watch.
Do you think the logo is too small? Or the indices aren't big enough?
@@RelativeTime Just dead space. The balance with the bottom half is way out. It needs a logo AND name in that space.
How did Jack Mason even make it on this comparison???
You might have to see the first video to get the context. The review of the Canton by itself. But the short version is they recently released the Canton which is a slight step up for the brand. Putting them in more competition with Monta and CW. So when they asked if I wanted to review it, I mentioned I could also do a Vs video if they were that confident in it. They were, and I thought it would be interesting to do. So here we are.
Agreed. It’s leagues below these other watches. The scoring is frankly absurd.
@@drdesign6886 well which categories do you disagree with and what's the reasoning?
The whole reason I break it down into categories is so that you can discuss it if you disagree.
Isnt jack mason a watchgang trash brand? Why is it even here? Might as well compare it to j brackett
Erebus 100%
Genuinely this is a load of BS. Are JM paying you??!!! Their watch is not in same league as the CW or Monta.
