Also shout out to Johnny Knoxville, his friends, and family who never gave up on him and got him help. At the end of the day, only an addict can choose to get clean. You can't know about "PCP saved my life" and simultaneously be blind to where this man has made it. The thing nobody talks about is when you're a successful substance user. This is something a lot of people don’t understand about addiction, they always think addicts are all caricature “junkies” on the streets and don’t realize most aren’t like that. They’re family, friends, random workers, etc
I’ve met crack addicts who’ve been managers at factories for decades, have a lot of personal experience with addicts and even I didn’t know a friend was on heroin, he was always motivated and working, had plans to open a restaurant, genuinely kind and down to earth person, and ODed one day. Especially due to the opioid epidemic it’s brought to light addiction isn’t just the people on the street, it could be your otherwise ordinary uncle or some kind old person or a random friend you’d never suspect it from. Just look at the number of homeless and such compared to the millions upon millions of addicts in the US. It doesn’t help our system actively worsens and harms them, and pushes many into criminality. I’ve had multiple friends go from nerdy stoners to go to jail over just weed and ended up making gang connections in jail and became meth addicts, causing people to go to streets for drugs leads to connections with the worst types of people and more crime. Also adulteration and impure drugs leads to most deaths and damage, which is pretty ironic when we’re talking about dangerous drugs like heroin. The drug war failed, never impacted drug use. Like really, how many of us would go and do meth if it wasn’t illegal? I wouldn’t and you likely wouldn’t either, because it’s not the law that stops somebody from using; it’s the fact it’s meth. Somebody who’d do it is gonna do it anyway. Might as well make it safer and make it easier to reduce harm/get help. Even from a societal level it’d be helpful. It’s also do more against gangs and cartels than just about anything else.

Patrick, thank you so much for telling this story. You spoke so much about Steve-o's yearning for attention as a result of his parent's actions. It got me thinking...what's the biggest thing that I was robbed of in childhood that I crave desperately now? Validation.
Gaslighting, manipulation and control ruled my childhood. As a result, my adulthood has been filled with a yearning to hear, "I understand what you're going through," and "your decisions are valid because what you're experiencing is real." These yearnings have gotten me into big trouble: letting problematic people into my life, needing someone to back up my choices before I make them, self-doubt and over-sharing. This has never clicked for me before! Thank you for all that you do.

Stevo is a huge part of my childhood and adulthood. The memories I have of staying up late with my big brother watching jackass will stay with me forever. I'm so glad he has gotten his life together and become an even bigger inspiration for me. I've had my own struggles and knowing everything stevo and the other jackass guys have gone through yet been able to turn it around is an amazing story that everyone who has had struggles can relate too. I'm 30 now and honestly some of my fondest memories is watching the movies with my family and friends and laughing our asses off. Thanks for this video amazing job.

As long as you are not strongly mentally and physically addicted to potent opioids or Benzos or an hardcore alcoholic getting sober is a walk in a park .
After I got sober from 400mg Oxycodone , 4OZ of Lean, 10mg of Xanax and half a gram of coke plus alcohol daily and the withdrawals started wearing of after 2-3 weeks of hell it kinda felt like I was tripping . Everything was so intense , there is even a term for it „sober euphoria“. But at the same time it feels quite a bit too overwhelming, I used to compare it too being on a bit too much Adderall, unable to relax and get some rest. If you beat that phase which lasts about 1-2 month for most people, you have pretty much overcome the wild ride.

Steve-O has had more of an impact on who I became as an adult than my parents did. The fact that he got sober and "stayed himself" helped me so much when I was afraid to get sober because I didn't know who I was without drugs. You did a great job being respectful toward those of us who face addiction while also telling his incredibly wild story.
