    I got a stealthy grey colored one going on a foot long...his 15yr old knife fish cave partner just passed away the other week...but its a 125gal planted tank with some cool red drifwood, caves, plants and hundreds of shrimps(neo/amano/ghost), 6" Panther crab, and a crapton of other randoms like pea puffers/kuhli loaches/sterbai corys/ect. He seems to do alright with everyone....now if he plucks a shrimp every once in a while idk about it but i have seen my puffers eat my ramshorn snails and my Bolovian Rams pick a shrimp here n there...but not sure about my Synodonis🤔. They are cool...just love to dig and make messes if you got anything fancy setup. Nice vid tho thanks👍

      Synodontis can indeed eat small fish. I lost many nice guppies before realising it was my big catfish eating them! I am also upgrading for a 125 gallon, hope it will get even bigger in his new home :)

    Enjoyed your vid and plenty to learn. I just picked up a synodontis and he grew really fast! Our tank is a 50 gallon with male and female bristlenose pleco, no intention to breed. Male plec would previously be dominant when algae wafers dropped, always see away female. With syno now in and roughly 8cm, male seems stressed and hesitant to defend food. Will even allow female to take in front of him! Unsure whether to swap out syno but do like his sneaky /curious nature. Created more hide spots this weekend so hope to see improvements, syno gets to everywhere though. Very smart fish

    • @orandapower

      eventually the syno will be to large to go where the bristlenose go, specially with small enough caves :)

    Just to be clear, Synodontis Eupterus catfish can life much longer than stated. My first Syndontis lived for more than 20yrs (which I obtained in high school) and moved with me to 3 different states, half a dozen homes, and 4 different aquariums. His name was "Snaggle" and grew up with me. My current catfish is 17-18yo now. I know that because he has been with me since the first year my wife and I started dating. My point is... these are long term fish so be prepared for that. 😍 But, they make it easy, because they are amazing fish.

      That is amazing! My video was based on information found on the internet, but I much prefer to hear from people like you who have actually kept them for many years! that is very great to hear :D! Hope mine will live as long as yours did! :D

      @@orandapower You are absolutely right about the readily available information on the internet. Our local fish store doesn't want to believe me either. But if you dig deep enough, you will hear people mention 24+ years. They do get cataracts towards the end. But, they seem to do fine carrying on because of their keen senses for finding food. They just become less active. Anyways... I hope yours has as many years ahead as well. Thanks for providing the content to spotlight these incredible creatures.

I do use drift wood and a lava volcano tubs and a sunkin boat . my sqeakers are very active and go great with my tank. They have changed so much since babies . They grow vsry fast and yes they will move anything or anyone out of there way to get food. They love love filter cleaning day. I always wind up making a little mess and they dive right in to clean everything up. The best clean up crew I have ever had. I love my Jorge and Francisco. Unfortunately I plants and he has a big hole at the back like a cave and a buddah head he goes inside but as he gets bigger I’m not sure. I was worried as people said it will eat my fish. But soon as I put algae wafers or pellets for cat fish the cichlids just get them and fight over them abit like cichlid football or something it’s quite amusing but I’m just worried that the Featherfin won’t get no food. Do you have a suggestion and he only comes out at night.

    About 5 weeks ago I added a synodontist angelicus/eureptus to my all mbuna tank. I was wondering if he buried himself because I couldn't find him for 3 days. Tonight I finally saw him for a few seconds using my flashlight.
    I'm starting to regret getting him because he hardly ever comes out. I don't even know if he is eating.
    The Pictus catfish is what I really wanted but I hear you can't keep them with Cichlids.

    • @orandapower
      @orandapower  3 месяца назад

      If you have strong lights, he won't come out a lot, but by creating some shading area he should be more active. They get less shy as they grow older. Maybe you can give him large caves that you are actually able to see the inside, so the fish feel safe but is still visible. Pictus catfish should be good in a cichlid tank though i never got any so i might be wrong.

    • @ranjanty
      @ranjanty 3 месяца назад

      @@orandapower Thanks for the reply. I don't have strong lights and I bought a large cave but the cichlids use it. There are several hiding spots in the tank. I can't find where he is during the day. He used to go under the planter and hang upside down but he stopped. I'm assuming because he is a lone catfish he would rather stay hidden.
      Because the tank is up against the wall and I can't see behind this one large rock, he may be on the back side. I guess he is eating because he is still living. Since I got him I've never seen him eat and only seen him 3 times so far.

    Why do you say he should be the only bottom dweller but you have a small Cory and a smaller fancy pleco in that tank with it? I have a snowball pleco and this feather fin catfish together in a 40 gallon, both 1 inch. Should I be worried

    • @orandapower
      @orandapower  8 месяцев назад

      They can get territorial with bigger bottom dwellers, but in general they ignore small fish and plecos. For some reason, mine can't be in the same aquarium as my big parrot cichlid, as they both fight, even in a 55 gallon. They become territorial overtime, but will tolerate some other fish.

      Floating plants and well establish plants should be good, but they are big fish that can uproot plants with weak root systheme. They also prefer a more alkalin water, but i have mine with some silver dollars and angelfish and he is totally good with them. They can be territorial with specific fish, for exemple, mine fight my parrot cichlid, so check that out, but if you have a big tank, i think it would look very cool with the discus! they ae a territorial fish. What is the tank size and what ae the fish he is chassing? In general, they can't really bite, but there fines are like spears and have the potential to stab other fish. I had to seperate mine from my parrot cichlid. for some reason, the two fish hate each others, even when i upgraded there aquarium size.

      Yes it will regrow. If you have gravel in the bottom, replace it with soft sand, or if you have sharp decoration, try to smooth them or replace them. Also check out for infection and fungus in the damage feeler. A bit of marine salt can help with that

    How do they breed?

    • @orandapower
      @orandapower  2 года назад

      good question. Since it never happen in my aquarium, I will refer you to the knowledge of a reputable fish forum to help. Apparently, it is super difficult : www.seriouslyfish.com/species/synodontis-euptera/.
      This is the quote from the breeding portion of this article :
      dimorphism : Adult females are much plumper than males. It can also be sexed by examining the genital papillae. This is not for the amateur however. The fish should be held ventral side up in the palm of your hand. The dorsal fin should be taken between your middle and ring fingers in order to avoid being pierced by the sharp dorsal fin rays. The genital area you are looking for is concealed beneath the pelvic fins. This can be exposed by pulling (gently) on the caudal fin. A male fish will exhibit an extended papillae which should be pointed and ridged. The spermatoduct can be seen on the caudal side. Females also have a clearly visible papillae but this is more rounded and the oviduct is on the opposite side to the male’s spermatoduct. Most species of medium/large Synodontis can be sexed using this method but it should be noted that most species take 2 years or more to reach sexual maturity.
      Breeding :
      Not achieved under natural conditions in aquaria, although captive breeding has occured on commercial fish farms via the use of hormone injections. Many of the young fish that come onto the market have been produced in this way. In nature, S. eupterus breeds in areas of seasonal flooding that are rich in micro-organisms. They are egg scatterers and exhibit no parental care.
      I hope this has help you :)

      mine is almost 8 inch long, still growing. They are big fish with big personality. In a 55 gallon, he was still very aggressive with my parrot cichlid, chasing and fighting all the time. he is very peaceful with smaller fish or even cichlids, but I wouldn't keep more then one in a 55, as they are territorial. indeed, 125 is very big, and that is the point. The best way to curve aggression is to have a large territory. the synodontis also enjoy the same type of water as African cichlids, and they need big aquarium.
