  • Today's amazing fish is the Synodontis Eupterus catfish, also known as the feather fin catfish! The fish is amazing because it can adapt to many different environments making it suitable for most freshwater tanks! Mine has live in my peaceful community tank, my wild African cichlid tank and is now 7 inches and living with my monster fish!

    I just bought one of these 2 days ago, and he overtook the wooodcave from my spotted, and after that he took over the hiding spot from my raphael cat. But he's sweet to watch and is busy cleaning the whole tank.
    Sweet fiish, and he brought life back to my catfish tank!
    Do you know if theres any wayy to see if its a male or a female?
    Just out of curiosity.

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  4 года назад

      Yes mind bullied the other cats in my tank too. As for sexing, their are no visible signs as males and females look alike, probably the only way to know for sure is to vent it which would be a nightmare

    could i put a featherfin catfish in an outdoor pond?

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  7 лет назад +1

      If the temps stay above 74F, yes...if you live in colder climates you could leave it in the pond only in summer; but I can imagine that these wouldn't be easy fish to re catch!

    Great video. In one of my 75's, I have a synodontis called the synodontis schall. I got it from my lfs a couple of years ago and didnt know anything about it, neither did the lfs. The lfs had said that someone had donated it to them. I dont see anyone selling this catfish or care for this catfish. Is this a rare or uncommon catfish in the US?

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  4 года назад

      Yes its pretty rare. Probably was wild caught because had it been captive breed I'm sure there would be more info about it

  • @igotboredfkit
    @igotboredfkit 8 лет назад +1

    i have 7 of them on hold at the lfs as well as about 25 Australian rainbowfish im waiting to get my 180 so i have a tank to put them in but ive been so busy i havent been able to finish the stand and canopy for it lol i also got them to get me about 15 potted amazon swords and im talking to them about a flower horn cichlid thai silk is what im really wanting
    so i guess the stock list in the and will probably wind up being
    7 feather fins
    25 Aussie rainbows
    1 flower horn
    might raise a jardini in there till hes big enough to survive in the indoor pond with the snapping turtle but idk about that so lets go with with the top 3 only shall we do you think thats to crowded

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  8 лет назад

      Sounds awesome! At first it worried me about the rainbows and flowerhorn, but rainbows are pretty fast so they should be able to escape a hungry flowerhorn, other than that sounds awesome!

    what clean up crew would you recommend for an African cichlid tank ?

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  8 лет назад

      Depends on your tank size because some of the following get big: mostly any type of synodontis catfish like the one in this video, synodontis multipunctatus is very common with these fish. In my tank I have clown loaches, and they are doing well together, and I also have a bristle nose pleco to help clean up algae, they don't get too big which is good because they don't produce as much waste as the bigger ones. Keep in mind that a cleanup crew isn't needed with African cichlids, as they do a great job eating ALL the food you put in even sifting threw the substrate for crumbs....but I know adding a mix of fish is always fun so those are the common choices!

    • @tragic504
      @tragic504 8 лет назад +1

      +dwsdarius it's a 55 gallon tank I have 2 clown loaches already I used to have two catfish but my African cichlids as baby cichlids ate them up so I never got anymore of them.

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  8 лет назад

      Well with clown loaches, the more the better. I would just give the clowns a school of at least 4-5 individuals in that size tank, then they will be more comfortable, thus more active in the tank!

    nice video bro, i am actually thinking of getting one of these guys as well..wonder if they will do well with bichirs and asian arowana.

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  8 лет назад

      Thanks, they are territorial at times so you might get some fighting with the bichirs, but nothing too serious I don't think....and the aro should be okay too!

    • @mondragonaquatics364
      @mondragonaquatics364 8 лет назад

      they will go good together as long as the Asian arrowana and the bichir isn't to big and make sure to feed them EVERY DAY because I have one myself with an 9in ornate bichir and they are almost best friends.

    That's my fav fish! Can you tell me any more detailed info on this fish? I couldn't find hardly any detailed info on or even a documentary on this catfish. Who do you think would be tank mate's?

    • @dwsdarius
      @dwsdarius  7 лет назад

      These catfish are awesome! They can tolerate a lot of tank mates from peaceful fish (as long as they are not too small like neon tetra may be too small) African cichlids and American cichlids. Just watch them around other catfish because they can be aggressive towards them. Other than that they are very easy to care for, they eat just about anything, they grow fast, and look cool!

  • @MirelleCox
    @MirelleCox 6 лет назад +2

    I have one too she is very healthy and she dominates the aquarium. She’ll mostly interrupts two chubby plecos when they're fighting over the tasty food causing them/one to swim away to the other part of the aquarium where they have pleco pellets and ignore eachother. He's about 4 years old and will seek contact if you put your hand in the water while cleaning. She eats mostly normal pellets when she gobbles up whole and she eats some tubifex every week and sometimes skeeto larvea if that isn't enough she will eat tetra flakes or the pleco pellets.
