lol people will try to explain away and deflect blame all day when it comes to their heros. He himself would probably try to sell that same line of bullshit to anyone willing to buy it. Especially his teammates that got to finish a man down. Privately though he surely regrets a moment of stupidity that he got manipulated into robbing himself of finishing the one game so many spend a lifetime trying to make to. Like an idiot he fell for it though.
One walks away with a little pain in the chest for a few minutes and the cup. The other walks away with nothing after fighting so hard to get to the final. At least he can coach pretty well.

Respect is earned, not faught for. That's fear and your own insecurities that you are fighting. This is someone that couldn't handle an opposing talking smack(which happens all the time in all sports) and got manipulated into doing exactly what he did. You can try to explain away weakness and a lack of restraint for the sake of your team with some kind of false bravado if you want. I just see someone that is played like a puppet and uses a cheap shot sucker punch headbutt because he had his feelings hurt like a child. Your little hero is pretty pathetic.

The solar plexus is a very painful part of the body to injure. One can be left without oxygen very easily, how do I know that? I have done some martial arts, the Zidane head butt to the chest looks very solid, and it looks very painful. It is no consequence Materazzi fell like a log, it can be damaging. However, I am sure if it was a controlled fight with the right techniques in effect, Materazzi could have kicked Zidane's butt. Zidane is not the best player ever, that idea is delusional.

2 things right off the bat, I'm not a soccer/football (depending on the region) fan myself, and also i've heard clashing statements about what was said.
From what i've HEARD, Materazzi had been tugging on Zidane's shirt throughout the game. Finally Zidane told him "If you want it so bad, i'll give it to you after the game"...Materazzi apparently took this as some grand insult. Could someone explain how the hell one interprets this as some severe insult when it seems more like a witty little remark?
Materazzi then goes on to say "I'd rather have your sister". Its here that I think we can all agree it should've been handled differently. Don't get me wrong, I would've happily beaten Materazzi like a red-headed stepchild, but AFTER the game, or at least in the last seconds of the match if no other play could've been made. That way he'd also be able to get a running start too.
