      You don't accidentally have acid laying around with kids or pets in the house. Leaving something as dangerous as acid out is NEVER an accident. That's being absolutely negligent with ones duty to keep their home and family safe. It's like leaving a loaded gun around.
      "Stuff happens" is a kid falling down a tree and breaking a leg, getting cuts, bruises, and sometimes bleeding. Drinking acid is.. not that.

      Drinking Coffee 73 saying it could happen to anyone isn't quite right. It didn't happen in my home because I never left anything like bleach or other chemicals within reach of my son. It's easy to fix a lock on a cupboard or put them up high where the child can't reach them. Poor Kayla she's lucky she didn't die.

    I sincerely hope the little girl who swallowed acid is able to make enough progress so she is able to lead a normal life. Her parents especially her father looked to be in a worse state emotionally than their child. Children take things in their stride and adapt fairly quickly to new situations, parents not so. Unfortunately accidents happen and hindsight will not help in this instance. Hopefully the parents can forgive themselves and move forward positively so they can continue to support their child.

      Don't know about acid in Ireland but people in lots of places have very dangerous liquids at home, such as bleach, pain thinner, nail polish remover, dishwasher detergents, drain cleaners, pesticides for your garden, ammonia, turpentine... 1. Shouldn't the case with the acid be considered child neglect? I get it that accidents happen but maybe you shouldn't leave bottles of acid lying around if you have kids.
    2. Why do the parents of the cleft lip baby keep putting their finger in his mouth instead of a pacifier? Are their fingers really that clean in a hospital?

      Danae Thiopoulou Some babies won't take a pacifier. Also with the cleft lip and palate a pacifier may not have worked. The baby was able to drink or eat before surgery, so they were trying to soothe him.

      @yabiyabi 6 лет назад +53

      Oh please. Be careful what you are judging here. I know you don't have children, because otherwise you wouldn't make this idiotic comment.
      Yes, leaving acid bright pink in color in a bottle might be stupid and a child might be even more stupid (but rightly ignorant) to drink it-
      but you can't just come up and tell us this is child neglect and abuse - because if you become a parent, you will realize that even the cookie you hand over to your child and you turn around could be enough lost time that the child is quietly choking down that sweet biscuit and by the time you look back it's dead. (YES This happened before)
      so before you jump into conclussion of child abuse, EVERY SINGLE ACCIDENT happens in EVERY SINGLE family, just not the same. It's all learning tool.
      If there were any case of child abuse that little girl would've NOT looked this healthy and happy and close to the loving family - mistakes are always made.

    I saw many acid victims....Most of them had to rely on a feeding tube for the rest of their lives. The tissue tightens up while healing, building more and more scar tissue, tightening the oesophagus to the point they are not even able to swallow saliva. Treatment? Is stretching. ....Basically shoving tubes getting thicker and thicker in diameter down a patient's throat to stretch the tissue,while giving strong pain meds and - most important - muscle relaxants, so it's easier to stretch the muscles and tissue. It's not even always done in general anesthesia but using sedatives and local anesthesia. It's incredible traumatising for some though. And it only helps for some weeks, allowing them to drink and maybe even swallow tinned, mashed foods like cream soups and puree for a short amount of time. Month if they are fortunate, until the scar tissue tightens up to the point even swallowing tiny amounts of liquids and saliva is impossible again and the procedure has to be done again, if one wants to be able to enjoy to taste anything and not only be fed through their PEG or PEJ. The only other method to treat this issue is a transplant, using a part of ones small intestines as oesophagus, but that's pretty complicated and not all patients can cope with it.

      Carelessness it’s not their parents fault she drank bright pink acid it’s not like they would just give it to her her parents have supported her through this difficult journey and period or her life just be happy she’s ok now because of her mum and dad don’t care got long this was don’t call them careless

    The reason acid was lying around is because in Ireland some people used bleach and other substances to clean, people in Dublin don’t really do that but people from down the country is Ireland do so that why it was there in the first place

    • @DogFlamingoXIII
      @DogFlamingoXIII 6 лет назад +5

      No, that's the reason she had acid. We use it in the US as well, especially for cleaning bathrooms. This does not explain the reason she had it laying around, where an unsupervised child could just pick it up and drink it. That's just negligence.

  • @julieannewalters4600
    @julieannewalters4600 6 лет назад +2

    Don’t leave acid in a place where it can be taken by any child,really it should be locked up in a cupboard they have young children so it’s common sense not to have it lying around the house where children can get to it
    Should be in its original bottle that’s child proof also ,must have been in a random bottle so she thought it was just a drink poor young girl,parenting may need some help by those at the hospital so they are better organised with things that are a danger to their kids

  • @meganbetteridge6810

    For everyone hating this poor child's parents, you need to check yourself. Those who are honest who admit that they've made mistake that could have been tragic, but they got lucky. Those who don't admit it are liars. No one is perfect and we ALL make mistakes and no one should be foolish enough to feel they are so superior just because they have so far been lucky.
